  1. Ok.....so lesson learned......don't just trust the companies when they say "Contains milk ingrediants".....I got betty crocker chocolate frosting and didn't realize it had WHEAT STARCH in it....i mean, wouldn't that be considered a wheat product and yet it wasn't listed........the one time i put my guard down and didn't read everything on the label. there was however a duncan hines chocolate flavor that my dad found that was good. so just be careful everyone!

  2. since as a freshman you'll most likely have to live on campus your best bet would be to, once you figure out where you are going, to contact the "chef" at the school as well as residence life. I was able to work out a deal that had me pay less than the normal meal plan since i wasn't able to eat the majority of the things in the caf. however, many places are very understanding and i had a cook who just asked me to call ahead and he'd make something special for me. it's easy to stay in control by cooking a lot of your food on your own, once you get to live off campus this is much easier. until that time, just try to make those aware of the situation......and i've sat near the door many a times haha, the professors most likely will understand :) good luck

  3. I think it would be beneficial to write an email to all of the cooks on the food network and places like that. I'm not sure I agree with the comment about Oprah only caring about celebs after her show giving a man who put a child molester behind bars 100,000 bucks....However, I do feel it would be a difficult task to get onto her show. People like Alton Brown, Rachel Ray....those are the people who I think would enjoy taking on the challenge of the gluten free cooking.

Having my degree in journalism and working toward my masters, maybe one day I can be the voice for celiacs out there.......hey, one can dream right?

  4. So i just had a labroscopy and I'm recovering and then suddenly last night i got a 100.7 temperature and it's been that high since......I'm not sure what the deal is because I"m on antibiotics and that should fight anything that could be getting me sick.....does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong. I'm miserable.........i can barely eat , i'm so tired, and always nauseaess but not actually getting sick...and i had really bad D all day yesterday but not today

  5. I went through some of this during college too.......now in grad school i have a bit of an attitude about it and just tell people if they'd like to experience what happens when my food gets contaminated or when i eat gluten containing food then i'll gladly let them come and spend the day with me when it happens

unfortunately, some professors are so caught up in themselves that they think students are lowly......mind you, to any professors out there, all of the ones that i've ever dealt with were awesome....but unfortunately not everyone is that easy to deal with.........it's important not to let people like this get to you, just because they are ignorant about our disease doesn't mean it should bring you down....i've learned to laugh at those people because honestly, they look more ridiculous throwing a twelve year old hissy fit than you do strolling into the teachers lounge and getting your lunch

    keep that head up!

  6. My sisters, boyfriends, mom (lol) who is an amazing baker made a delicious chocolate cake using the Namaste chocolate cake mix. I thought the GFP and Pamelas ones where good... this one blows them away!

where can i get this Namaste chocolate cake mix......I've never even heard of it!!

Thanks for all the recipe ideas :)

  7. Does anyone else have the bladder syndrome interstitial cystitis? My doctors all thought that I had endometriosis and I went and had the labroscopy then boom......it wasn't that, and now here i am recovering and now i have to see a speciailist.....and guess what the treatment is, drug therepy AND more DIETARY GUIDELINES..........uugggh. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and could give me any pointers

  8. The dr. put me on neurotrythipalyne...........definately not spelled right but i don't have the medicine near me to spell it correctly....it's a mild anti-depressant/anti-anxiety that they give to people for IBS...I've been having a lot of stomach issues as of late and he put me on it as a trial basis, so far so good....it even helps with my anxiety about going out and my obsession with having to know where a bathroom is at all times. i tell you what, with this disease you learn to have no shame......if i had a penny for every sketchy bathroom i've stopped at on road trips i'd be a rich person.

  9. I was in weis markets the other day and picked up the corn nuggets (corn pops) store brand for my parents and after reading the box they appear to be gluten free. I didn't try it because i'm tired of taking risks with things, but that may be a good place to contact to ask....I'm not sure where Weis markets are all located it could just be a PA thing....

  10. i use a spoonful of peanut butter! it always works for me!! i heard in one of my pysc classes that it's a mental thing though, like if you think drinking from the opposite side of the cup gets rid of hiccups they usually will go away. who knows, but i like peanut butter so i stick with that
