  1. Thanks for the heads up - I didn't know not all of the EltaMD products wouldn't be gluten free. Do you know what isn't? I just ordered an SPF 30 sunscreen too and now I'm worried about that one...
  2. My dermatologist finally talked me into buying EltaMD UV Daily Broad Spectrum SPF40 for my face. It's expensive, but lasts a long time if you just use it on your face. The big deal here is when and if it sweats into your eyes, it doesn't sting. At all. I'm very fair and it's a game-changer as I would avoid using sunscreen on my forehead before this - the...
  3. Does anyone know if this is gluten free? It looks like it once was labeled as gluten-free, though I’m not certain. The only questionable ingredient is listed as just ‘spices’. The others are recognizable. I usually use McCormick because they label well, but it wasn’t available.
  4. I have a Nima Sensor - I generally only bring it along for traveling in other countries, where language issues might be a problem. I will say it saved me one time, and that alone was worth the cost. The restaurant was absolutely insisting that the meal was gluten free but something on it was questionable, so I tested it -- saved me from so much pain and...
  5. My info may be a bit old, but I believe Bionatura and Schar products are easy to find there, and you probably want to focus on organic ("bio") stores.
  6. I ate a lot of GROM ice cream while I was there. And risotto. Absolutely delicious risotto. Most restaurants have good choices, and there is a lot of awareness about cross-contamination, though you still need to ask.
  7. We are traveling to Italy during Passover. While I've heard Italy is great for Celiacs, I'm going to try and stick with the spirit of Pesach by avoiding pastas, pizzas, pastry (I know, breaks my heart, but it's school spring break so we have to go now). I do eat kitnyot (rice, beans, etc.), so that should make things a bit easier. Does anyone have...
  8. Does anyone safely use Limelife lip glosses or lipsticks? I think I read on the website that some or all are Gluten Free, but there was Tocopherol as one of the ingredients. I've done the reading on Tocopherol, but I'd still love to hear if anyone uses these safely -- there's a color I'd love to try.
  9. I eat out all the time, but I'm lucky to live in a town where gluten-free awareness is very high. While I prefer dedicated gluten-free restaurants, it's not always possible. There are only a few non-dedicated restaurants where I feel safe having the pizza. One is known for its extensive gluten free offerings and procedures. I always ask about...
  10. This is a great question, as I would love a good falafel sandwich again -- I would try to find pre-packaged pita and store/handle it carefully. Or the spring roll idea, something that approximates the experience of a pita. If that's just not possible, maybe a rice/lentil or quinoa bowl. One of the things that always bothers me in falafel places is...
  11. Is this a chain? Where is it? I love Indian food, always happy for recommendations.
  12. I've was told that once about plain white rice, but think it's just ignorance. There is something called glutinous rice that is produced by the rice, but it's not something Celiacs are sensitive to. What everyone says about fried rice and seasonings, though, definitely an issue. And yes, the storage of the rice could also lead to cross-contamination...
  13. I use L'Oreal Colour Riche mostly and haven't had a problem. However, I don't know that I'm what one would consider 'highly sensitive' with my Celiac. Didn't know that about Revlon Colorstay -- that's good news.
  14. Post cruise update for the next traveler - Alaska was fantastic and I'm thrilled Princess was able to accommodate my Celiac. I did speak to the head waiter the first day, and we had a consistent waitstaff at the dining room for dinner, so that wasn't an issue except when we went to dining room for lunch or breakfast -- on those days I would just speak to...
  15. Thanks. Great suggestions.
  16. Hi - So excited -- we're about to start a Princess Cruise. We did request Gluten Free for me, and I suspect by now they know what they're doing in the dining room, but how do those of you who cruise handle the buffet? Do you find an employee and ask for something prepared elsewhere? Normally I don't risk buffets, but I'm sure my group will eat a...
  17. I’ve adapted pretty well to my diagnosis 5 years ago, all things considered. One thing that helps is that pre-diagnosis, I always loved to eat and cook with a lot of naturally Gluten Free foods, like beans. Well I contacted a company last week regarding a delicious looking product I saw at my local specialty store - a dal, basically a lentil based m...
  18. Evol are definitely good. Although not certified, I also like some of the Tandoori Chef and Trader Joe’s Indian meals that are gluten free, some from Lean Cuisine, and Healthy Steamers/Bistro Beef Merlot or something like that. Blake’s makes a nice gluten-free Shepard’s Pie If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, there are super easy fast meals you can...
  19. Please don't hesitate to eat a safe, prepared frozen meal from time to time. This diet is hard enough to maintain as part of a busy lifestyle. While I love to cook and explore new recipes, and have gotten pretty good at it while trying to re-create my lost gluten choices, I'm also a busy mom with a demanding job. I'm not a huge fan of Amy's but there are...
  20. I eat Edy's popsicles and the slow churned ice cream. Haagen - Dasz also labels well, so I eat many flavors of HD.
  21. Not sure where you're located but we recently found a fantastic place in NYC called Bann (found it through Find Me Gluten Free or here on the site). Upscale, so we went for a special occasion, but they know their protocols and are able to make several traditional things gluten-free. I think I had the Bulgogi, and to keep the grill gluten free, mine was...
  22. Trader Joe's Rice Pasta Mac n Cheese is pretty close, cheese-wise. The noodles are ok, if a little thin.
  23. The only cheeses I avoid are blue-veined cheeses IF they are imported or small batch local craft cheese, as it's my understanding that they are sometimes molded on bread (don't even know if it's true). Otherwise, I eat them all - favorite brands are President for feta and Kirkland for shredded parmesan, but these are about ease (buy them in bulk) rather...
  24. It can be a challenge, but we've lived that way for 5 years. We have two teenagers and, among the four of us, i'm the only one who is gluten free - here's our house: - Stainless steel pots and pans (we had these before, I prefer them) - gluten can get caught in scratches on non-stick surfaces. I re-rinse the pots before using them for my stuff. I...
