  1. Following up on the garbanzo bean thing - one of my favorite 'recipes' is a salad with a can of chickpeas (drained), some feta cheese, red onion, drizzle with olive oil and add in some sort of greek or italian seasonings/herbs. If I'm feeling the need for more protein, I might add in a hard boiled egg or some tuna - making it a bit like a nicoise. No weird...
  2. I have never had a reaction to Planter's Nuts (in fact, a bag of nuts from the vending machine is sometimes all I have time for for lunch some days), but if you have concerns, or just want to see if it's cashews in general causing a problem, try nuts.com. I believe their nuts are certified gluten-free, and they have really fast delivery. When I was...
  3. I would appreciate getting this question (yes, I know it's not really an allergy), because it makes it clear that cross-contamination would be an issue. In your case, you can legitimately say 'allergy' (or as legitimately as someone with Celiac) as it makes you sick.
  4. I eat them, but I don't think I'm particularly sensitive. I don't recall seeing the note you mentioned about shared lines. Aren't they a Frito-Lay product? I think Frito-Lay is pretty gluten-aware, if that's a phrase.
  5. Kikkoman is actually making a gluten free soy sauce now. It's not bad.
  6. It's the upside and the downside - the upside is there's this wonderful new market created by these people for prepared foods and menus that you and I can benefit from. The downside is that chefs, waiters, etc., don't take the risk of cross-contamination seriously and that there are eye-rollers out there who just don't get that I'd LOVE to not have to eat...
  7. I didn't get served something I shouldn't but on the last AA flight I took, 90% of the meal was inedible. I fly quite a bit, and this was among the worst airline meals I'd ever had. I have another flight with them coming up (I know, I know, my husband booked it), so we'll see how that goes, but I'm not holding out any hope
  8. I've actually never even thought of it, and I share the house with three gluten eaters. Of course, I can't say that I haven't been cc'd, but not that I'm aware of.
  9. Crustless mini quiches are pretty easy to make and you can pop a couple out every day to heat up. I don't have a recipe on hand, but easy to find online.
  10. I believe Mr. Softee in a cup is Gluten Free, but you may want to check.
  11. I can't speak to the other symptoms, but I have had the crawling sensation and I believe it was caused by two things, happening in unison and therefore making me think I was going nuts: Celiac - it comes back when I get glutened and, at the same time, 'formication' (with an "m", thank you very much) from perimenopause, which is an uncommon but real peri...
  12. I tried a new recipe for a moroccan crock pot chicken last night. It was on Yahoo recently, so you can probably find it there. It was very tasty, if you can tolerate the stew-i-ness that crock pots always do to chicken. However, you need much more chicken stock than was in the recipe if you're going to have it cooking for more than 4 hours. When my husband...
  13. For me, I had the lucky timing of getting what I believe is formication related to perimenopause (yes, look it up :-) it's like bugs crawling on your skin) at the same time I had intense all-over itchiness from undiagnosed Celiac (with no rash and only intermittent hives). Once the other perimenopause symptoms went away and I'd been gluten free for...
  14. He does sound rude! But I confess, I'm confused - isn't the rice safe there? I thought the only thing with Gluten were the tortillas. Or did you mean that he didn't change his gloves before starting to dish out your order? Yes, that would have teed me off.
  15. You have to watch out for that, too - to the uninformed, if it doesn't say 'gluten' in the ingredients, they say it's 'gluten free', when we all know here that it's not called 'gluten' in the ingredients. I usually try to add "which means no wheat, barley, rye or oats", though you can't always tell who gets it and who doesn't.
  16. Thanks, Laura, That's very helpful! - I haven't been back since that time. Are the chips already pre-packed in bags, or do they reach into a bin with their gloves on?
  17. Wait? Are you talking about the rotisserie chicken? That would be such good news. My husband usually does the Costco runs, and I've been wondering about that!
  18. K8tling, how do you know that it was cc at the beach, and not something after -- i ask because I'm still pretty new to this and this is the part I find confusing. How will I know if/what 'got' me.
  19. Yesterday I looked at their sausages.... strange, none are marked gluten free. I read the labels - rice flour, etc., etc., everything fine, and then... I notice hydrolyzed soy protein : I'm confused. How does soy protein affect gluten free status?
  20. I was diagnosed with Celiac about a month ago and have tried to be strictly gluten-free since then, while still trying to go to restaurants with my kids and husband. I was excited to try Chipotle, as I'd read here and elsewhere that they're very gluten-free aware and would make efforts to avoid CC once told that you have Celiac. So, today we stopped into...
