  1. Lynne-

I used to work in battered women shelters and for a county in California in the department of child services. Needles to say I tested positive to TB. I remember having a chest x-ray and having to take medication for 6 months. It must have not been active. At the time it did not seem to be a big deal. I don't remember the medication or it having any side effects. To be honest I forgot all about it until I read your thread then my thought was "oh, yea, I had that". I will pray that all will work out best for your daughters health.

  2. For me this is not a easy black and white issue. It really depends on the food and the company that produced it. I am sure for some this is a no brainer but for me it just depends.

For example, my nut thins have a legal statement about being produced in the same facility. However, other people have posted that they contacted the company and that the lines are sepearate. I have never had a problem with them. Others have. Each of us has to decide these things for themselves. And in the case of children it is up to the parent to make that judgement call. For this parent a shared facility was not an issue. For other parents it is an issue.

  3. I understand not wanting this disease to be your identity. It is hard when it is a part of who you are and it alters how you live your life. The key for me is that it is part of who I am but not what I am. I am so much more than this disease. Maybe try just taking it day by day for awhile and not worry about the larger picture until your feeling better.

  4. While there are several people on this board that have gotten sick from Amy's products I am not one of them. I also don't eat them often. But they are a great meal if I am in a hurry.

The cheese rice crust pizza is made in a dedicated facility if you are concerned about cc issues. As far as I know the other gluten-free options are not made in a dedicated facility.

  5. It took me about six months on the gluten-free diet before I started to feel better. I think because my damage was severe (not one villi standing) it took awhile to heal. I have been gluten-free for over a year and feel wonderful. I have energy and am not running to the bathroom. Everyone is different and everyone heals at their own rate. I agree with Ursula about the dairy. I took out milk for a good nine months. I can now enjoy it again!

  6. My understanding of refractory sprue is that this is celiac disease that is NOT helped by the gluten-free diet. You can be gluten-free and not get any better, still have gi symptoms. This is a rare condition. Hopefully, someone will chime in and give a better explaination.

  7. This just points to how different the same restaurant came be in another place! I phoned my Macaroni grill and spoke with the manager who told me there was nothing I could eat there. He claimed everything came marinated and could not even think about the cc issue.

I am so glad you had a great experience!

  8. I am almost sure that my trigger was the birth of my eldest son. I was so sick. The doctor kept doing labs and could never figure out what was wrong with me. Over three months things got back to normal so the docs and I never went any further with it.

Fast forward seven years, an ectopic pregnancy and a 3 year old daughter and I became sooo sick! Again lots of testing with the a different doctor. This doctor just happened to run the celiac test so we figured out the dx. The biopsy showed complete atrophy, not one villi could be seen, completely flat. I think it just took awhile for my body to completly fail.
