I would love to know what others do. I use tykanda (sp?) and while it is great the night I cook it, it falls apart when I reheat it in the microwave.

Linda,
We are opposite! I was the tallest in my 5th and 6th grade class. I did all of my growing early on, dh was a late bloomer. I am now short, only 5'4"! So I guess my theory on little genes does not apply to your family I hope the birthday party was fun.

Isn't it great to be a year out! Happy Anniversary
Are you and your husband big people? I ask this because it just might be that your kids are normal for their genetic make up. Both my ds and dd are small for their age (both have been tested and do not have it at this time, I am the one with celiac). However, I am small frame and so is my dh. My kids have never been over the 20th percentile. Most of the time they are around the 10-15 percentile. My son is hardly ever hungry, I can count on two hands the times he has asked for food, he is 8 years. His main goal in life is to play not eat!
Just a different perspective that your son sounds completly normal to me (I am not a doc just another mom with a great son)!

I think I read somewhere that Outback created the gluten-free menu because someone close to the company either has celiac or knows someone with celiac. Is this true? Wish I could remember where I read this.

I always post this as an appetizer But I do love it and this is the season for it. I love cantelope wrapped in prosciutto (sp). Nice combination of saltiness and sweetness.

Lisa,
I would contact the manufacturer to see if there is barley in their brown rice syrup. It is probably one of those ingredients that could be safe but you never know until you contact the company. What product is it?

Keep in mind I am in the US. It sounds like this ingredient sometimes is made with corn and sometime with wheat. It would not be gluten-free if it was derived from wheat but it would be gluten-free if it was derived from corn. I am pretty sure this ingredient is used as a sweetner but must also have a starch component (would explain the wheat or corn).
I am hoping someone who knows a little more will contribute to this question.

I finally found it today! It was in my regular grocery store, King Soopers (aka Kroger) with the other Amy's pizza. I almost missed it. It also looks like it might be dairy free as well. The cheese is a soy cheese.

Russ,
Welcome to the board! This is a great group to turn to for information and support. I have learned so much from this board. I look forward to hearing more!

For some reason I have choosen not to worry about this. Usually the person taking the order, getting gluten filled treats and taking your money is different from the person making the drink. I go to Starbucks about 4 times a week and have not had any trouble (knock on wood).
I think that you need to find what your comfort level is. None of us live in a bubble but where each persons comfort level is different. I probably take risks others would not and choose not to take some that others readily take on.

I do not trust the Quaker company. I remember reading somewhere that they have huge cc problems (not that is helpful since I can't remember the source). I just always avoid them.

I agree, after I am glutened no matter what I eat it goes through me

I get my oats from the Gluten Free Oats company in Wyoming. Maybe with competition it will get cheaper

Back in the day of take out chinese food my dh and I would order spicy eggplant. They usually would use the small Japanese eggplants but I see no reason why you can't try it. I am sure it was thickened with cornstarch and very hot spices, plus garlic. You had to eat it with rice it was so hot. It was yummy!

Is there a number you could call? With the new labeling law in place they would have to list wheat from soy sauce. However, soy sauce is not even an ingredient.
If it were me (and it is not, so take it with a grain of salt), throw it in the fridge and call the company on Monday. I always like to play it safe.

I wish I knew of a mircle cure after being glutened. I try and get lots of rest, drink water and eat bland comfort foods.
Sorry,

Alton Brown on the Food Network recently made homemade corn tortias. Very interesting show.
I do not have the time to make chips or tortias. I just buy the Mission brand, they are marked gluten-free and produced on corn lines only (I don't even think they use flour in the factory, but I am not sure).

I have been wanting to try it but have not seen it in the stores yet. Where did you find them?

Our family drinks the pink lemonade, lemonade and limeade without issue. I think this is one of those cases where the lawyers have them scared (probably rightly so with all the lawsuits out there).

I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose a beloved friend and pet.
I hope you have a great time backpacking. Unfortunately, I have nothing to add to Tiffany's great list.

I use Kraft (will clearly label gluten) marshmellows and Health Valley Rice Bran crackers (it states the ingredients are gluten-free on the package). The Rice Bran cracker is harder and smaller than a traditional graham cracker. But for smores I like them. They also make a great crust.

I use Oscar Meyer bacon and Jennio Turkey sausage. Sorry, I have not tried making pot stickers.

A friend of mine has children who are allergic (not celiac) to wheat and dairy. When they are at potlucks or out to dinner the kids take some kind of enzyme that she says helps with cc. However, they have a different response because they are allergic. I am not sure if it would help if you had celiac.
I really am not sure about these health food store enzymes, I have never tried them.
I have heard of the research being done with the EP-B2. I think the research is being done at Stanford?

The reality is that eating out is risky for celiacs. It is one aspect of this disease that I hate. I went out and spoke to the manager, went over ingredients, very careful-I still got sick (I had a salad)!
I think of eating out like going to Vegas. It is a crap shoot, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. We really do not eat out that often (I am not a gambler).
I do hope you feel better soon.

I would be very leary of getting a blizzard. Back in college (before dx) I worked at a dairy queen. They do not clean the blizzard machine between batches. So if someone ordered a oreo blizzard before you I would think the equipment would be contaiminated. Same with the milkshake machine, if someone had a malt before your milkshake.
I do order their cakes for our family for birthdays. I spoke with the woman who makes the cakes, very nice. She ensusres that all the equipment is cleaned beforehand and the frosting is unopened. We leave out the fudge sauce and chocolate crunch and substitue m&ms. It is very good and she does great designs.
