  1. I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time staying gluten-free. This month, a year ago, is when I got my diagnosis. I went gluten-free the next day and have not cheated. I have been glutened but not on purpose. I was able to find my motivation early on, my kids. There is a good chance they may some day develop this disease. I wanted to lead by example. If I show them it is okay and managable then if they get the dx maybe it won't be so hard.

This is not to say I do not have my bad days. Have you noticed how many commercials are all about gluten! I keep reminding myself it is poision  It makes me sick and I want to be healthy.

Sawyer, maybe it is time to do some soul searching. Find out why you are having a hard time. Then maybe you can find the answers so you can be on your way to better health.

  2. I cannot say that I have experienced being gluten-free and preganant. However, I can offer some reassurance. If I think back on my first pregnancy (before dx) and think of all the gluten I ate! Then the second preganancy and even more gluten. Both my kids have come out beautiful and healthy! I think the body has an amazing ablility to protect the baby. I for sure had celiac for my second pregnancy and did not know it. I am not a medical doctor, just a Mom. My gut tells me you and your baby will be fine. You are already a loving and caring mother.

  3. I wish we had a section for humor! I had no idea where to put this. Please move it if there is a better spot.

The other day some friends were talking about giving things up for lent. I smiled and said I gave gluten up :D My dh is not sure if it should "count". I laughed and said he was just jealous because every year he has to think of something! Not me :) I jokingly said that since I give something up all year I am extra special! We had a good laugh

  4. The Wyoming oats are almost ready. I have put in to purchase a bag. Compared to the other companies I actually trust them. The reason they started this was because they have celiac in their family! I am not saying you should eat oats! I think eating oats is still risky because no one knows if they are in that group that will react. If I try them I will give a full report.

  5. Thank you Elonwy for responding. I figured I would have to contact the local manager. Just feel bad for dh to sit without me. I am trying to convince him to buddy up with one of the single guys in the office!

  6. My dh has a work function at, you guessed it, the melting pot! Why can we not go bowling? I am not sure if I am going to go. I feel bad for dh since other spouses will be there. Has anyone had a good or bad experience with the melting pot? How do others handle these situations? It is bound to keep happening since gluten-free is my life.

  7. Well, we finally returned from our first vacation in five years. We went to Disneyland in California. Parts of the vacation were wonderful :) Others not so much :(

Unfortunately, I did get sick. Not really sure where or what from. I found out that my reaction to gluten has changed. It used to be that I got sick within an hour if I ate gluten. Now the reaction seems to be much more gradual. Without the loud noises from my stomach or the cramping. Still have the "d" though. Has anyone else encountered this? Plus I have horrible brain fog. Never used to get this in the past. Most of the chefs were wonderful and knowledgeable about celiac. Only ran into a few problems. The chef at the mexican resturant was wonderful! So very sweet.

Even though I got sick I would still reccomend going to Disneyland. I would also reccomend feeding children before the trip! My dd got car sick thru Denver and the entire rocky mountain region! We learned our lesson. Never travel on a empty stomach!

  8. I am so sorry that your daughter is not feeling great. For me it takes about a month to be back to normal after being glutened. I am a mother of two small kids so even if I am sick there is no down time. I take immodium i-d and keep going. It did take me a long time (6-7 months) after getting my dx before I started to feel better. Have you considered or thought about if depression is playing a role in her not wanting to leave the house? Just a thought. I know that I went thru some depressed times during my teenage years and I did not even have this disease then. Please come to the board if you are feeling overwhelmed and need some support. This is a great group of people who are here to help others. Pat on the back from me :)
