I cannot say that I have experienced being gluten-free and preganant. However, I can offer some reassurance. If I think back on my first pregnancy (before dx) and think of all the gluten I ate! Then the second preganancy and even more gluten. Both my kids have come out beautiful and healthy! I think the body has an amazing ablility to protect the baby. I for sure had celiac for my second pregnancy and did not know it. I am not a medical doctor, just a Mom. My gut tells me you and your baby will be fine. You are already a loving and caring mother.

How about meringue shells (use splenda) filled with fresh fruit? The shells you could make ahead of time. Very elegant looking and refreshing. Although a teenager might not go for it!

I love bringing cantelope wrapped in procuitto (sp?). Wonderful contrast of sweet and salty.

I wish we had a section for humor! I had no idea where to put this. Please move it if there is a better spot.
The other day some friends were talking about giving things up for lent. I smiled and said I gave gluten up My dh is not sure if it should "count". I laughed and said he was just jealous because every year he has to think of something! Not me I jokingly said that since I give something up all year I am extra special! We had a good laugh

A word of caution based on experience. After applying the lotion wash your hands. I glutened myself by licking my fingers! This prompted me to just get rid of everything. I was angry at myself for being so stupid.

I really like the frosted PerkyO's. I just wish I could get them locally

I like the Ian's chicken nuggets. Although I have not tried the Welshire since I can not find them. I have liked most of the Annie's dressing with the exception of the Cowgirl Rance, yuck! I do like the buttermilk flavor. I am waiting (not very patiently) for the mini turkey corn dogs from Ian's. They should be out this summer!

At this point I just seem to have celiac. So far no intolerences or allergies. When they checked my blood levels the vitamins looked great and my bone scan looked almost normal. I feel very lucky since my GI thought I had about 15 years worth of damage to my intestine.

I drink their tea often and do not get sick. But I also can eat the nut thin crackers and I know they bother you Berneses. Could it possibly be part of your cold? I am sorry you are not feeling well.

The Wyoming oats are almost ready. I have put in to purchase a bag. Compared to the other companies I actually trust them. The reason they started this was because they have celiac in their family! I am not saying you should eat oats! I think eating oats is still risky because no one knows if they are in that group that will react. If I try them I will give a full report.

There is a brand of fruit roll ups (they may even be called that) by Kraft. Just read the label. I know some are safe. There is a mock rice krispie that does not have malt in it, Crispy Rice by Nature's Path. I have used those several times for "rice krispy" treats with good results. Sorry, I do not know about gummy worms. Have fun

Interesting. I thought yeast was always gluten-free. Good to know!

I have noticed this too. Sometimes people refer to me as having an intolerence. I correct them and say it is a disease! Maybe it is a psychological thing? The word disease makes people uncomfortable. Just a guess

Thank you Elonwy for responding. I figured I would have to contact the local manager. Just feel bad for dh to sit without me. I am trying to convince him to buddy up with one of the single guys in the office!

My dh has a work function at, you guessed it, the melting pot! Why can we not go bowling? I am not sure if I am going to go. I feel bad for dh since other spouses will be there. Has anyone had a good or bad experience with the melting pot? How do others handle these situations? It is bound to keep happening since gluten-free is my life.

I felt tired the day of but horrible the next day. Keep in mind I had only been gluten-free for a couple of weeks. I had bad "d" and gas. I would guess that it had nothing to do with the procedure and eveything do with celiac.

Well, we finally returned from our first vacation in five years. We went to Disneyland in California. Parts of the vacation were wonderful Others not so much
Unfortunately, I did get sick. Not really sure where or what from. I found out that my reaction to gluten has changed. It used to be that I got sick within an hour if I ate gluten. Now the reaction seems to be much more gradual. Without the loud noises from my stomach or the cramping. Still have the "d" though. Has anyone else encountered this? Plus I have horrible brain fog. Never used to get this in the past. Most of the chefs were wonderful and knowledgeable about celiac. Only ran into a few problems. The chef at the mexican resturant was wonderful! So very sweet.
Even though I got sick I would still reccomend going to Disneyland. I would also reccomend feeding children before the trip! My dd got car sick thru Denver and the entire rocky mountain region! We learned our lesson. Never travel on a empty stomach!

I like both the chicken nuggets and the fish sticks! I swear I am ready to threaten the local store if they do not get the mini corn dogs in! They are not for my kids, they are for me

I really like the Annie's as well. Although I do add more cheese!

I eat several of Amy's soups and frozen foods. I have not gotten glutened by them. I think with alot of processed food our risk for cc is high. It still sucks! Hope you feel better soon.

I am so sorry that your daughter is not feeling great. For me it takes about a month to be back to normal after being glutened. I am a mother of two small kids so even if I am sick there is no down time. I take immodium i-d and keep going. It did take me a long time (6-7 months) after getting my dx before I started to feel better. Have you considered or thought about if depression is playing a role in her not wanting to leave the house? Just a thought. I know that I went thru some depressed times during my teenage years and I did not even have this disease then. Please come to the board if you are feeling overwhelmed and need some support. This is a great group of people who are here to help others. Pat on the back from me

Having A Hard Time Staying gluten-free
in Coping with Celiac Disease
Posted
I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time staying gluten-free. This month, a year ago, is when I got my diagnosis. I went gluten-free the next day and have not cheated. I have been glutened but not on purpose. I was able to find my motivation early on, my kids. There is a good chance they may some day develop this disease. I wanted to lead by example. If I show them it is okay and managable then if they get the dx maybe it won't be so hard.
This is not to say I do not have my bad days. Have you noticed how many commercials are all about gluten! I keep reminding myself it is poision It makes me sick and I want to be healthy.
Sawyer, maybe it is time to do some soul searching. Find out why you are having a hard time. Then maybe you can find the answers so you can be on your way to better health.
