I have not had a problem with the Outback I go to in CO. However, I make sure to go when they open. It is not as busy and everything is clean. I am sorry your son got sick.

I have seen some canned baked beans as not safe in the US. There is a specific flavor of Bush's beans and there are some chili beans that clearly have wheat in them (can't remember the brand). I have not seen just plain beans (kidney, navy, pinto) that have gluten in them.

There are only a couple of foods dh will not eat. Since they are so few I try and respect that. But he is missing out

Had to laugh when I saw the turkey soup recipe My dh hates turkey soup! He hated before I started making all our dinners gluten-free. I think it looks yummy

Since you keep getting glutened I would say that your body may not have had enough time. Does this make sense? I have heard from my doctor that over time I may not be as "sensistive" to gluten as I am now. But if I kept having cc issues than I might wonder if I have had enough time to heal. I hope I am making sense. I guess I am looking at the glass half full not half empty. Maybe you just need more time.

Splenda is gluten-free. I use it occasionally and it works like regular sugar. I have a friend who is diabetic and I have celiac. So I figure a sugar free gluten-free treat on occasion won't hurt me. I am somewhat leary of all fake sugar though.

I am trying to come to terms with the fact that what used to be normal for me no longer is. The physical part is starting to go back to normal. I have further to go in the emotional arena. For me I am trying to redefine what my normal is. I let you know if it works

I have similar issues. I have started to demonize the gluten. Not just in my head but out loud. My friends think I am nuts (this is nothing new, they thought that before my dx). I also know how sick it will make me. I really do think this is the hardest part, the emotional.

I could not handle milk after going gluten-free. It really messed me up. I have been gluten-free since April and have just recently started adding milk back into my diet. When I do have milk I take one of those lactose pills as well. That really seems to help. Never had any other issues with dairy (yogurt, cheese, sour cream) just milk.
Also when I first was gluten-free I kept thinking I was having a reaction to things that I knew were gluten-free. Now, I think it was the healing process. Sometimes I would feel great and other times lousy but it did not have anything to do with what I was eating.
Hope you feel better soon.

I like Contidina pizza sauce, it is safe (in US).

I know Kraft will not hide gluten in their label. You may want to try that. I use Kroger shredded cheese, I think they use potato starch. I know nothing about lactose free, sorry.

Lollie,
I have found that the majority of cheese is gluten-free. However, after my dx and going gluten-free I noticed I could not tolerate dairy very well. Could this be the problem? It is very common for celiacs (especially after dx) to not tolerate dairy well. I have also read that some celiacs after going gluten-free notice they have intolerences to other food. I have just recently been adding more dairy back into my diet. I have been gluten-free for almost 10 months! There was an excellent article written in the magazine Gluten Free Living on blue cheese. It was pretty technical and very interesting. The long and short of it is that most blue cheese is safe.

A friend asked the other day how I was doing. I have been gluten-free since April and feeling good since September. I could honestly say I felt great physically. The emotional side is an ongoing battle for me. I hate being different This disease makes me feel different. I have to bring my own food to family functions. Or I have to ask 50 questions if we go to a friends house. It is just such a pain! I guess I am not helping you, sorry It's just I know how you are feeling. I feel the same way.

For the first couple of weeks after going gluten-free all I did was gluten-free frozen food. It just seemed so overwhelming. Then I became more comfortable with the diet and started going to the grocery store. It was so hard. I kept seeing all the food I could not have. After coming home and sobbing I made a decision. I was not going to the store. I made my husband go! I would make up a list and research the safe products. He would go with the cell phone and call if he had questions. After four months enough time had passed that I started going again. It was still sad at times but it did not feel as overwhelming.

I had to smile when I saw this topic Just the other day I was thinking (as I was making my lunch) how much time I spend planning, buying and preparing my meals. It boggles the mind what a time sink this is! I kept thinking what if I had to pack a lunch everyday? I think I might loose it! For now I am a stay at home mom so I don't need to worry about the packing. At least now I have an excuse why the house is not clean, I really don't have the time

From whole foods love the pizza crusts and pies. From Kinnikinnick I like the donuts and pizza crusts. I love the bread from anna from gluten evoution! There are tons more that I have not tried. Everyone has different tastes but I know you will be able to find good substitutes.

Your Dad was probably diagnosed because he was outside of the US! The US really lags behind other countries when it comes to celiac knowledge and diagnosis. I hope your test goes well and you get the answers you are searching for.
Welcome to the board

Nini,
I so understand your tears! One thing about this disease is it makes you feel different from everyone else. It was a small thing to eat french fries but a huge thing to be like everyone else.
I do not understand why they had to mess with this.

I have had Mrs Mays cashew crunch before and loved it! I vaguely remember a past thread talking about this product. My understanding is that rice malt is safe.

Molly,
I just checked the delphi list and it says Swedish Swordfish are gluten-free. Are these the same? I always thought swedish fish were okay.

Here is a link to go to for where to eat in Disneyland. It is the basic information that I got over the phone Open Original Shared Link. Keep in mind this is for Disneyland in CA.
The only thing new is the mexican restarant in Frontier Land now has a celiac menu. Ask for it when you go in. All of the Disneyland hotels have gluten-free options as well. There did not seem to be as many options in California Adventure. None of the resturants in between Disneyland and California Adventure are run by Disney. So eating there is like eating anywhere else, risky.
Hope you have fun!

Have you tried ener-g crackers? They are a cross between a ritz and a water cracker. I really like them. I can get them at my health food store.

When I get glutened I do not feel "normal" for 3-4 weeks. I know everyone is different but this first two weeks suck and by the third I am feeling more normal. By week 4 I finally feel good. Hope you feel better soon.

You have a lot of options when it comes to alcohol. I know Bacardi rum is gluten-free (I contacted the company). I do not question wine (personal choice).
However, you may want to stop drinking for a little while to help your body heal. I have noticed that I no longer can drink as much as I used to. Someone noted that this may be due to the fact that my body is finally absorbing the alcohol
