  1. For me I did get new non stick pans. My old ones had deep scratches. For everything else I just gave it a good wash. If I felt leary about it, I tossed it.

So far, I have not been reacting from food that is also produced in the same facility as wheat. However, there are several people on this board that do and they avoid those products. It is really a personal decision how you go from here. Your son is also old enough to help in this process. Like so many things in life, celiacs have a broad spectrum of onpions and what is acceptable to them.

It will always be a challenge but it is getting easier!

  2. I can't say I am a binge eater but I think I hoard food  When I got my dx I started hoarding food. I just thought it was my mind trying to deal with the limitations of the diet. When I would find food that was gluten-free (usually junk food) I would buy it up. It made me feel good knowing there was food in the cupboard that was mine. I still have a bag of Fritos that are about five months old :P

  3. I do not know how Denver would compare to Chicago. I have heard great things about the Chicago area. However, we do have Vitamin Cottage, Wild Oats and Whole Foods. I do not live in Denver (live an hour north) but have gone to Deby's. I felt like I was going to mecca! It was great eating there. Hope you have a great trip!

  4. What interesting answers! I have to admit I would gladly take a pill if it would mean travel and eating out would be easier. I feel fine dealing with celiac in my own home. I can make my favorite foods and have found alternatives. But I miss worry free travel and eating out. Remember what it was like to look at a menu and not be limited to a salad? That is the part I would change in a heart beat!

  5. Nini,

I wish I had something useful to say! I would be concerned more about the loss of energy than the weight. Maybe the blood tests will pinpoint something. It is so hard to work and raise a family when all you really want to do is nothing at all.

    Karen,

I am glad you are not accepting the docs dx!

  6. I am so sorry to hear the crackers made you sick :( I have had them and have never gotten glutened. I remember reading the warning and freaking out! But I thought I read a post (must have been on this site) that said they are made on a separate line and due their best to avoid cc issues. Beverly, you may want to call the company to confirm this. Like Amy's (I remember the post) they may be interested in your experience. Hope you feel better soon.

  7. I found an ad in my Living Without magazine and I have to try Perky O's cereal (looks like Cheerios without the gluten)! I am trying to avoid shipping costs but at this point that looks like my only option. Has anyone found these at their grocery with other gluten-free items? Anyone ever tried them? What flavor did you like? I think they have a plain, frosted or apple cinnamon.

  8. I have not contacted this company. However, I did find out that some of their products are gluten-free from the delphi forum. This is what I found there.

  9. I really do not understand why your gi doc did another scope so soon. It takes a long time to heal. Even if you had been completely gluten-free with no mistakes I am not sure you would have seen a difference. However, I am not a doc so I should not second guess! I do know what my personal experience has been. I was dx in April and started feeling better in September! That is when the trips to the bathroom started to decrease, stools started looking normal and energy started to return. Really did not start feeling like my old self until November. For me it has taken a long time. Hang in there and keep reading the boards.

PS-I thought the nut thing (flour to keep from sticking) was a celiac urban myth?
