There were plenty of celiacs who did participate in some of the trials for medications to treat celiac disease. They were willing to get sick in order to find a drug treatment or cure. I commend them. I think most Celiacs just miss the ability to easily eat out and share meals with family and friends. Celiac disease is the only illness where the...

One patient. I meant this article only involve one patient and one drug. For all we know, this patient may have healed because of a miracle. I would not participate in a drug trial that involves drugs to treat my celiac disease when my gluten-free diet does the job. While they could help, they can cause harm. I understand that each person...

muscle ache ?
cyclinglady replied to DJFL77I's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sure! For me it is old age. I noticed this area hurt, when I walked up a steep hill right at the start of my walk. Told hubby we need to stay flat until we are warmed up. 😊 -
A gluten exposure for me can trigger my celiac disease which can cause GI issues for 1 to 2 months. That means it hurts to digest anything. I also become lactose intolerant during that time. Everyone is different. But if symptoms persist and the gluten free is strictly being followed, you should see a doctor. He or she can help you determine additional...

Try the app, “Find Me Gluten Free”. Look at the reviews recommended by celiacs. Not sure if during this pandemic a regular restaurant offering some gluten free options would be safe (fewer trained employees and supply issues).

Recently diagnosed with celiac
cyclinglady replied to Smitty1024's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Was it plain instant rice or flavored/seasoned? I am pretty sure plain instant rice is gluten free. What did you eat with it? -
TTG-IgA testing - any insight?
cyclinglady replied to sweeterin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I test positive to only the Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA test. I have never had a positive on the TTG IgA, TTH IgG, DGP IgG or the EMA Test. I have had these tests repeatedly run over the years and never had other other celiac tests show up as a positive. Only the DG IgA which normally, I would request only to confirm a gluten exposure. My biopsies... -
Her celiac disease might be active. Mine was the opposite. My antibodies were very elevated the day I had my repeat endoscopy which revealed complete healing. The celiac disease blood tests were meant to help diagnose celiac disease and not to monitor the gluten-free diet. But it is the only non-evasive “tool-in-the-toolbox” for doctors to use. Best to ...

I am so sorry for your loss. Autoimmune Thyroiditis is commonly linked to celiac disease. Have you had your thyroid checked? This can cause miscarriages and must be carefully managed while pregnant. It can delay your period if you are hypothyroid too. Celiac disease is systemic. It is also genetic. It used to be thought that 1 in 10 first...

A few days off is nothing to worry about. You are making a lot of dietary changes on top on having celiac disease.

Here is more about the red meat allergy.... https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alpha-gal-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20428608 and for Lyme, some people do not get the classic bulls eye rash...band you had joint pain.... https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/lyme-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20374651

@JFearH You only had the screening celiac blood test. While it catches most celiacs, it does not catch all. You can try the other celiac tests (EMA and DGP). Know that some celiacs are seronegative, so going to an endoscopy should be considered (discuss with your doctor). Make sure you are not gluten free when testing! You mentioned a beef...

Weber grill spray
cyclinglady replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Was the grill itself, free from gluten (did someone use seasoning or toast the bun on it recently?). On shared grilles, I use a clean silicone mat or foil to prevent cross contamination. The spray should be gluten free from what I read online. But who makes the spray? Pam? Pam also makes a spray with flour to prep cake pans, etc. I hope someone else... -
Ah, sorry for the mis-communication and it was taken from other sources that I did not link. When I meant uneducated, I was comparing Southerners who did not process corn the way Native Americans did, thus causing Pellegra. Uneducated might not best be the best word, maybe culturally ignorant is a better choice. Actually, Poster Boy and Knitty Kitty have...

I do not think it is the expense. Many consumers do not want fortified products. Even the manufacturers are actually cutting back because people are no longer deficient as they once were in the US. Most of the fortification in the US was ramped up because of the war. Young enlisted men were not healthy. Poor and uneducated Southerners lived on corn...

The best way is to not eat out. The exception would be a dedicated gluten free restaurant. The next would be to eat at restaurants that have been recommended by other celiacs. Heal first and then takes risks. How long have you been gluten free?

Celiac disease and sports injuries?

Ever take any antibiotics? One class of them has a black box warning (severest warning from the FDA) concerning tendinitis and tendons rupturing. https://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/news/20080708/fda-warning-cipro-may-rupture-tendons- 17 replies

I am sorry your daughter is unwell. I assume she has continued to be on a full gluten diet since 2/2020 despite her DH type rash. If not, all celiac testing would probably be invalid. Her TTG test result is not common. I could only recommend a GI consult or see a dermatologist (DH/Celiac savvy) for a special skin biopsy. I thought for sure my niece...

Celiac disease
cyclinglady replied to Chris Simmons's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow! You are the first person to report (in my memory and at least recently) who has had both the stool (EnteroLab) and celiac disease antibodies blood tests (DGP, EMA and TTG). The results do not match which is strange. Keep us posted on your endoscopy result, which hopefully will clear up or validate some of the testing you had so far. At the very... -
The Right Diagnosis!

Congratulations! I am sure you are relieved. Thank you for coming back to report to us. Would you mind if I merge this post with your previous post? I think it will help others by seeing closure. -
Celiac disease
cyclinglady replied to Chris Simmons's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How long have you been gluten free? I ask because if it has been just a few days, you might want to continue a gluten diet until your endoscopy. That is because most celiacs, once they go gluten free, can react pretty violently to gluten when reintroducing it for a what is called a “gluten challenge“ (two weeks before the endoscopy). This can make it pre...
