  2. I am so sorry! I am like you in a way. In my case, I am allergic to acetaminophen and NSAIDS. Like my face and throat swell up. What to do? I tough it out. Rest. Let others help you. I fractured two vertebrae two months after my diagnosis doing NOTHING. Yep, osteoporosis due to celiac disease. No wonder my rib cage and hips ached when I slept...
  3. I buy any raw bean or legumes. What I do is carefully sort them on a tray and wash them. My mom made us do the same except we looked for rocks back then. I still find odd things. I do not think bean manufacturers are as careful with sorting as me. They might find rocks (mechanically sorted), but can not distinguish a lentil from a piece of wheat...
  4. I think ( I am not a doctor), but he is checking you because you might have anemia (high red blood cells). Anemia is very common with celiac disease, especially B-12 which can be due to malabsorption. Your celiac results are normal and you are not Immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficient enough to impact any celiac (IgA) test versions. (In celiac disease...
  5. Gluten might not be the issue. I do use McCormick dill and pumpkin spice. I use Stubbs chili mix (seasonings) and rubs which are certified gluten-free. Hubby can eat foods prepared with them, but I can not. I have an issue with peppers, onions and garlic despite being completely healed (reacent biopsy) from celiac disease. I did get back lactose though...
  6. A TTG positive does warrant a a biopsy, but since your family has a strong celiac disease history, I can see why your GP would rather skip this step. I also understand the GI’s position as well. Not because of a lifelong restriction of gluten, but it is nice to have a firm diagnosis (for school/university) and a benchmark of damage for future follow-up t...
  7. SquirmingItch found this article about this very topic: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/24/magazine/what-the-mystery-of-the-tick-borne-meat-allergy-could-reveal.html?fallback=0&recId=18dyWTkHf215p5jm77ijEP7Bzc4&geoContinent=NA&geoRegion=CA&recAlloc=thompson_sampling_story&geoCountry=US&blockId=signature-journalism-vi&imp_id...
  8. This was discussed some years ago on the forum. You might find it interesting: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/85651-transient-celiac-autoimmunity-in-a-adult/ I would personally go for the repeat biopsy. Please keep us posted!
  9. How long have you been gluten free? A damaged small intestine could have issues digesting any type of food, including fats. You could also have picked up a virus. Stay the course (a gluten free diet). Expect little set backs. If you are really concerned, see your doctor. I hope you feel better soon.
  10. My strategy is to just tough it out (I am severely allergic to many medications). I eat mushy eat-to-digest foods for a while because everything hurts to digest. I try to rest and keep hydrated. Remember, celiac disease is autoimmune and not an allergy. Gluten triggers an autoimmune response which can go on for days, weeks or months! It is like...
  11. I was not diagnosed until late in life. Two months after my diagnosis, I broke some bones doing NOTHING! I had no clue that I had developed osteoporosis. It will catch up to you eventually. I think it already has or you would not be here. Learn more about complications: https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease-...
  12. Welcome! For starters, you have not had the complete celiac blood panel. Did you know that some celiacs are seronegative? Your doctor seems to be on the right path. Getting both scopes is a good idea as you may have several issues going on. I wish you well!
  13. Why not start start a new posting? We could used updated refractory celiac disease advice.
  14. Are you talking about the TTG IgA and the TTG IgG tests for celiac disease? Are you talking about Immunoglobulin A and G results? I am confused. If you just had the two TTG versions, you could ask for the two DGP versions and the EMA. The TTG test do not catch all celiacs. Are you IgA deficient? Ask for an Immunoglobulin A test. Some...
  15. I agree with GFinDC! My endoscopy revealed nothing, but my biopsies showed significant damage. Let’s hope he took enough samples in the small intestine. I would seek another opinion if the pathologist’s report does not find celiac disease. Something is wrong! My niece had celiac disease firmly ruled out. Her 4th GI ordered a pill camera. It ...
  16. I am not a doctor, but the celiac blood tests, the endoscopy and the biopsies did not reveal celiac disease. Could they have missed damage in small intestine? Maybe. You could ask for the rest of the celiac panel which includes the TTG IgG, DGP IgA and the EMA. Or find out the cause of your ulcer-like erosions (e.g. taking too many NSAIDS). I hope you...
  17. I had a bread machine years ago. It was nice to have bread ready to go in the morning. Later, I tossed it. I like kneading bread. It was relaxing and gave me a good work out. Gluten free yeast bread does not require kneading. Just time to rise. An electric mixer or your arm can handle the initial mixing. Let it rise and then bake! My machine...
  18. We have been on Carnival and had successful trips -- no glutenings! Royal Caribbean was terrific too (several times). We took extra precautions though. 1. We notified the cruise line when we booked the tickets and confirmed again just prior to departure. 2. When boarding the first day, usually the buffet is open only. I meet with the h...
  19. I use Gabriel’s lipsticks. I love them!
  20. TTG IgA TTG IgG DGP IgA DGP IgG EMA Why the complete panel? Researchers thought the best test a few years ago was the TTG. Great test, but does not catch all celiacs (like me, others like me, and small children). Some celiacs are seronegative. Some might be Immunoglobulin A deficient (IgA). http://www.cureceliacdisease...
  21. This happens to SOOOO many people. Even many doctors get this wrong and fail to tell their patients that they need to remain on gluten for testing. Once you feel good after getting off gluten, it can be hard to go back on for testing. Do not let your doctor persuade you into not testing because you are overweight. That is an old fallacy. Celiacs...
  22. Hi! If you are considering getting tested for celiac disease next week, you do need to get back on gluten right away. All celiac disease testing requires you to be on a full gluten diet. In as little as two weeks antibodies in the blood stream might decrease in some people. The problem is you do not know if you are a fast healer or not. Then you...
  23. You are fortunate that your doctor referred you to a Gastroenterologist. I am sorry to tell you that I presented only with anemia. That is it. No gut issues at all. As far as damage, only the biopsies can reveal that. The antibodies tests can not really measure intestinal damage. My blood test result was moderate, but my damage was moderate to...
