Antibody Levels Transglutaminase
cyclinglady replied to prins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My diagnosis was shocking as I had no gastrointestinal symptoms at all! There are over 200 symptoms attributed to celiac disease. Some are even hidden. Two months after my diagnosis I fractured my back doing nothing. Unknown to everyone, I had osteoporosis. ? -
The Immunoglobulin A (IgA) test has to be practically zero for it to affect the celiac IgA tests. In the case of celiac disease testing, the Immunoglobulin A test is used as a control test. https://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/it-mmfiles/Celiac_Disease_Diagnostic_Testing_Algorithm.pdf You could be a seronegative celiac. The only way to know...

Lab results , they are confusing?
cyclinglady replied to Nana 08's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you have the lab ranges handy? Each lab can have different ranges. Based on what you submitted, you should be a referred to a Gastroenterologist. Not all tests included on the celiac panel need to be positive. -

While not the best (less specific), AGA antibodies still have some value. For the most part, most labs are now just running the newer DGP tests in the U.S. Some posters reside in countries that may not have the most current tests. I assume the DGP was run, but I could be wrong. Maybe the OP can clarify. Here is a study to back my claim: https... -
Wow! I wish you the best on your upcoming Ironman. I have done some sprints and relays, but never an Ironman. Usually, I do Century Rides. Like you, I am on a lower carb, high fat gluten-free diet. Hey, I am looking at two Nunn containers right now in y kitchen. One, citrus fruit does have corn, dextrose. The other, Pomergranate Blueberry does...

Welcome! At 235, your Immunoglobulin A is normal. In the case of celiac disease, this test validates the other IgA celiac tests (it is a control test). The positive gliadin IgA is elevated. This means you should get referred to a Gastroenterologist for an endoscopy to obtain small intestinal biopsies. You do not need all the celiac blood tests to be... -
Son-test results
cyclinglady replied to Rachq's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Genetic testing for celiac disease is primarily used to rule out celiac disease. Why? Some 30% of the population carries the genes that could develop into celiac disease which is not “common” if you crunch the numbers. In some cases, genetic results can help guide a doctor in diagnosing a patient when test results are negative. Diagnosing celiac disease is ... -

Young children often have not developed the TTG antibodies for accurate testing. The DPG tests can be better detecting celiac disease. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5553580/ All celiac testing requires a person to be on a gluten diet (except genetic). -
Endoscopy tomorrow
cyclinglady replied to jen22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wanted to add that after being diagnosed with celiac disease, I started having a lot of GI symptoms (stomach pinching, reflux, nausea, etc). I thought for sure it was celiac disease-related as my antibodies (DGP IgA were very elevated and were not coming down). I went on the Fasano diet, but no improvement. Finally, I caved and had a repeat endoscopy... -
Am I celiac or not?
cyclinglady replied to aya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like Tessa, I would recommend getting the full celiac blood panel. Why? If my GI had not ordered the entire panel, my celiac disease diagnosis would have been missed. I only test positive to the DGP IgA, even in follow up testing. Then there are also the few celiacs who are seronegative. If the GI suspects celiac disease (anemia, osteoporosis, family... -
Celiac and reflux
cyclinglady replied to aya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If celiac disease is the cause of your reflux, it can take weeks, to months or a year for healing on a gluten free diet. I have celiac disease but only was anemic when diagnosed. Last year, I developed reflux for the first time. Another endoscopy determined that I had healed from celiac disease, but stomach biopsies revealed chronic autoimmune gastritis... -
Am I celiac or not?
cyclinglady replied to aya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How did you GI diagnose you with LES? Did you have an endoscopy then? What did the pathologist’s report indicate? Exactly which celiac test was given? This is not clear. In any case, I would recommend getting a second opinion from another GI. Something is wrong! -
You did not say what the cause of your hypothyroidism was. Is it autoimmune (Hashimoto’s)? Were you tested for thyroid antibodies? If your body is under attack by “self”, it can cause your thyroid to work on and off. Celiac disease or not, it might not just be related to malabsorption (but it could). If you had two positives on the celiac panel...

Endoscopy tomorrow
cyclinglady replied to jen22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My endoscopy visually looked good. My biopsies revealed damaged villi. So, you just need to wait for the pathologist’s report. -
There you go. The gluten-free diet has helped you. You might not need, that official diagnosis. After all, the bottom line is achieving good health. P.S. Those Romans went everywhere! I think now, northern India (where they grown wheat and not rice) has an even higher rate of celiac disease than Europe.

At this point, I personally would go for whatever it takes to heal from the MC. A gluten free diet (and gluten free cookies is not a good food choice at the time) certainly can not cause harm. You might be able to go back to gluten or dairy when the MC has resolved. If you want to pursue a celiac disease diagnosis, do it later. I just pointed out that...

When I have been glutened, I become lactose intolerant again (temporary) and anything I eat hurts to digest. I usually pull my crockpit out and cook stew meat, chicken or fish. I eat that (and all the fat), along with some veggies (e.g. green beans) that have been cooked to death. Plain white rice is a good food for most. I eat that for a week or more...

The Mayo Clinic does advise a gluten free and dairy free diet for Microscopic Colitis. It would be worth trying it for a longer period — like months. I am sure it takes time for the Colitis to resolve. It takes time to learn the gluten free diet too. Most celiacs take a few months to a year to heal. I hope the diet helps. I would also ask your d...

Don't want to do gluten challenge..
cyclinglady replied to Bree J's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This goal of this site is to sell you something. There are many celiacs struggling to heal for a variety of reasons. But in your case, you should consider a gluten challenge because you are doubting your self diagnosis. My hubby has been gluten free for 17 years. He never cheats. He KNOWS that gluten makes him sick and he is well now. You do not seem... -
Ice Cream and Popsicles
cyclinglady replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We eat tons of Breyers. I just need to worry about it being gluten free. They have 30 flavors that are specifically marked gluten free. Those are manufactured separately. I like the Natural vanilla best (the carbs are low). Just a few simple ingredients. Your grocery store manger can order your favorite flavor for you. https://www.breyers.com... -
