Confusing Celiac Blood Test Results
cyclinglady replied to Bree J's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Every lab is different. I have no idea why Mayo would publish their ranges unless their site is directed at their patients. You have to go with the lab ranges. These are not dictated by a family practice but the lab. You have a choice. Stay gluten free or do a gluten challenge as KarenG suggested (all celiac testing requires you to be on a full...- 2 replies

Relief. I had been so fatigued from anemia. I have Thalassemia, which already caused my hemoglobin levels to be under range, but my body had been compensating for it my entire life. It was the additional iron-deficiency anemia that literally wiped me out (that and 30 days of periods thanks to menopause). I saw my blood test results. Just one positive...

When was your last lab test to check your anemia (CBC is a good starting point). Those should be re-checked after six months, along with follow-up celiac testing that I mentioned previously. Lab results can let you know where you stand.

Desperate need of help

Okay. I will share that my niece who has Crohn’s was finally diagnosed with a pill camera. Her damaged areas were out of reach of both scopes. I would consider the Gluten Free diet and maybe even the autoimmune protocol diet for the possible Crohn’s. Here is a recent study which caused over 70% of patients to go into remission. https://www.ncbi.nlm... -
Is a mixed kitchen realistic?
cyclinglady replied to creativemuse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel for you! GFinDC has excellent tips! My hubby was gluten free 12 years prior to my diagnosis. We had a shared kitchen, but...I was the only one who cooked and prepared food (besides hubby) and cleaned up. I prepared gluten free dinners for all three of us, but still made gluten items for myself and my daughter for lunch and breakfast... -
What a great question! A gluten challenge runs anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks (google it). You only need a few crackers a day. I do not think you will gain a significant amount of weight. I am on low carb, high fat and gluten free diet as I have diabetes too. I get worrying about straying off the diet, but with your deficiencies, it is worth pursuing,...

It might be worth testing to give you piece of mind. My antibodies have been elevated in repeat testing over the last five years, but oddly my gut is healed per my last endoscopy/biopsy. My doctors think my other autoimmune issues maybe impacting my gliadin antibodies test results. Who knows? I can not control my other autoimmune issues, unlike I can...

DH is celiac disease. Did your doctor, even your PCP (Primary Care Physician) order a complete celiac blood panel? http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/

Desperate need of help
cyclinglady replied to PK-432's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can tell you that I am biopsy proven and I have never had a positive on the TTG or EMA test versions. Not even in the many times my GI has run them for follow-up testing. I have only had a positive on the DGP IgA. Some celiacs are seronegative. In that case, the GI must just proceed to biopsy to confirm a diagnosis. We are not doctors, we can... -
Lab Results
cyclinglady replied to Mpug128's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is up to you whether or not you should ask your doctor for an endoscopy. Remember, you are the patient and a customer. You do have patient rights. If you do not feel comfortable advocating for yourself, bring a parent or friend with you or put it in writing. Ask your doctor why he is not referr8ng you for a biopsy. All the celiac experts recommend... -

cyclinglady replied to Mpug128's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! Your doctor is not following diagnostic protocol for celiac disease. You should be referred to a Gastroenterologist for an endoscopy to obtain biopsies. Now, some must skip this step for financial reasons (lack of insurance) or long wait times (public health). A GI can rule out concurrent issues like H. Pylori, SIBO, cancer (rare), etc. ... -
Hyperthyroid can cause you to feel hot all the time even in winter. Being actually sensitive to heat, like it causes severe fatigue, sounds like my MIL who had multiple sclerosis. There might be other illnesses, but that is one to check out. But migraines (only had two in my life), might cause you to be heat sensitive. I was anemic, but I was fatigued...

Is "no tearing" a symptom/aspect of celiac?
cyclinglady replied to buddyspal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Because celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, patients can go on to develop other autoimmune disorders. Have you looked into Sjogren’s Syndrome? https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sjogrens-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353216 -
Was the doctor’s diagnosis based on just the endoscopy? Mine was normal, yet the pathologist’s report revealed patches of moderate to severe damage. Plus, you probably know that the small intestine is the size of a tennis court and it is easy to miss damaged areas. Do not fret about the vacation. I go to a family lake house that is packed with glu...

Symptoms questions about being glutened
cyclinglady replied to Bookgirl32's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might have figured it out. Cut out those RX bars. They are not certified. Not that everything needs to be certified, but as a Newbie, I would err on the side of caution. You could be reacting (not a celiac reaction) to nuts, coconut....whatever! Nuts can be hard to digest when your gut is damaged. The same applies to that flour. Ditch it for... -
You would need to read the ingredients. While it could be gluten free per the ingredient list, is it manufactured on shared lines? Is it on the TJ current gluten-free list? If not, do not buy it. Make your own. There are cans of chicken that are label gluten free (or make fresh). Add some Best Foods Mayo, celery, onions, and pepper. Easy, fast and...

You are smart to try to prevent diabetes, especially when the odds are against you. I applaud you! I wish more people would wake up and take action now!

@Simi85 I wish the US was more stringent in their regulations with gluten free products like Australia. I do think that there are celiacs that are super sensitive. Just ask those with DH! I personally avoid as many processed foods as possible. I also subscribe to the Gluten Free Watchdog who tests gluten-free products. This independent group...

I have to agree. I am biased. I react to many medications (allergic) and have family members who have had adverse complications to prescription drugs. I am able to handle the diet and still have a social life, but I realize that this is not possible for many celiacs.

Why the concern for protein? As a Diabetic, I focus more on fats and not protein. I am on a high fat, low carb diet (more or less) and basically eat to my meter. (What may spike my blood sugar might not spike your blood sugar.) If you consume too much protein, your body will convert it into glucose. This is a good website for learning about...

I disagree. I think you can manage or treat celiac disease with a gluten free diet. The article made a comparison of managing celiac disease like Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease which she says can not be managed on diet alone either. I strongly disagree with that! I have Type 2 Diabetes and have been managing with just diet alone for four years. No...

Yes, your doctor is right. Your child had a negative on the TTG, but Celiac disease researchers have found that small children may not develop antibodies to the TTG. The DGP tests are better at catching celiac disease. Here is one link. Goggle for more and share with your doctor. https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease-...

My coeliac blood results
cyclinglady replied to Kezabrap's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might not even have celiac disease. It is one reason why you should consider moving forward with the endoscopy. Lab results do necessarily correlate with intestinal damage. Meaning that you could have severe damage or you could have mild damage. Keep eating gluten! Important! You can start research. Making informed choices about your... -
Severe Reaction to Gluten, Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to Jhew1992's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am sorry that you and your daughter are struggling with this. It certainly sounds like celiac disease. Summer would be the time to do a challenge. I am not sure one glutening would be enough to generate antibodies that would circulate in the bloodstream. Everyone is so different, but it might be worth trying. You could order the screening TTG IgA test...- 8 replies
