  1. Ha! This has happened to me SO many times. ?. I just get in a rush to reply. Of course, I am usually multitasking (Mom do know where my “fill in the blank” is?)
  2. I have both Autoimmune Thyroiditis and Celiac Disease. Her very elevated TTG is most likely due to celiac disease and not to thyroiditis. It should be confirmed by a endoscopy though. You can also ask for her thyroid antibodies (different from celiac/gluten antibodies) to be run since it runs in the family. Those can be elevated long before the thyroid...
  3. Those are soundly negative. I am not a doctor though, but I do have some common sense and can see that your result is less than the lab range. You have a few options though. Not everyone tests positive to the TTG tests (like me). Consider the DGP and EMA tests. Know that some celiacs are simply seronegative. In that case, you would need to move forward...
  4. @grannysue—If you can consume unbleached flour, then odds are you do not need to be gluten free. Look to the chemicals used to process wheat four to make it white. This is from a blogger, but I think it is legitimate and explains it well: Open Original Shared Link If you seriously think gluten is an issue, get tested: Open Original Shared L...
  5. I am glad going lactose free has helped your daughter. A huge chunk of the world’s population can not tolerate lactose for genetic reasons and she might be one of them. If you are in the US and are in the public school system, you should be able to get your daughter evaluated. We had that done for both the dyslexia and my daughter’s delayed (or ...
  6. Here is my advice. There are some good flour mixes that I like (e.g. Pamela’s because it does not have Xanthan Gum — personal intolerance). Avoid using a lot of rice as it usually is the source of grittiness. Buy everything on sale and freeze. If you are recovering from celiac disease, you might try a Whole Foods diet. Avoid processed foods (li...
  7. Well, no braces for anyone in my family. We lucked out at least in having straight teeth....not so much in the autoimmune department. ? I wear my retainer at night. Did not qualify for a tooth implant. Still trying to figure out the best course of action ? and the retainer keeps my teeth from shifting.
  8. She had a negative biopsy, but a positive on the TTG IgG. I would have to lean with the GI and say that your daughter does not have celiac disease, at least for now (it can develop at any time). Going forward, You can either keep her on a full gluten diet and ask later for the DGP IgA and DGP IgG tests if you think you need to retest her in a year or two...
  9. What? I am not a dentist, but it might be worth getting a second opinion about how long you have to wear those braces.
  10. None of this indicates testing for celiac disease. The wheat and milk could be IgE allergies, but I would go to an allergist for confirmation as blood tests for allergies are not that accurate (like 50% accuracy). If you have a celiac disease antibody test result just type it. In any case, I would consider getting a second opinion. Bring all the...
  11. Odds are there is no gluten in the glue, but ask your dentist to help put you at ease. I read a pub med article about a 9 year old girl who was supposedly glutened by her retainer. It was just ONE clinical case presented and not a study. But, like you, I was a little worried. I had a hard time (and my dentist) finding the raw materials for my retainer...
  12. What is the update? There have been transdermal iron available for years. The problem is that it is unproven to work. It sounds like a company is currently in the process of getting their transdermal iron patch tested and approved by the FDA. Until then, traditional means of supplementing iron should be followed, in my personal non-medical opinion. ...
  13. There is a difference. You can have a wheat allergy (I assume there is a wheat intolerance or it is an allergy that is simply mild). A wheat allergy is just like a peanut allergy. It is IgE mediated. Exposures can cause hives, swelling, breathing issues leading to anaphylaxis. If you have a true allergy, your doctor will prescribe a EPI pen to keep...
  14. Unless you become a registered dietitian with additional training regarding the gluten free diet, I would not advise celiac personal-training clients about diet at all. You will get sued. Better look into insurance or make sure your employer covers you for liability. I have been teaching group exercise for over 25 years and I never offer advice to...
  15. Welcome! First, I do not have DH. I would suggest reading through the DH section for advice and tips. I can say that many DH members have to be super strict. 20 ppm might be too much for them. Instead a Whole Foods diet seems to help. Antibodies can take forever to leave the skin too. Consider the Fasano diet (Dr. Fasano, Ped GI at Mass General...
  16. A gluten challenge is not six months, but it is around 8 weeks: https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/Testing-and-Diagnosis/The-Gluten-Challenge/1510/ The decision is yours to make. While I am diagnosed, my hubby is not. He went gluten free per the advice of two medical doctors (no celiac testing was done) 17 years ago. It worked though...
  17. A gluten challenge before a celiac antibodies testing requires about weeks of a gluten-containing diet. It is only 2 to 4 if a person proceeds to an endoscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/Testing-and-Diagnosis/The-Gluten-Challenge/1510/ I would ask for a full celiac antibodies blood panel and not just...
  18. I am sorry that you had to go through the prep twice! That is awful. Let’s hope it was an honest mistake. I know the next time I have a colonoscopy, the GI wanted me to do a double prep. Now, healed from celiac disease, I am not sure that will be necessary. In any case, I am not looking forward to a another colonoscopy. But back to the OP, I h...
  19. Brush your teeth after eating gluten and then you can kiss! It is nice to be supportive though if you are out with him and just order something gluten free. It is so nice that you are such a caring person!
  20. Your doctor probably ordered both an endoscopy and colonoscopy. You have both celiac disease and Ulcerative Colitis, right?
  21. When was the last time antibodies for celiac disease and/or biopsies were checked (to determine if your celiac disease is active)? This can help your doctor rule out celiac disease as the cause for your low red blood cells. I had two different anemias when I was initially diagnosed (one is genetic and not related to celiac disease). I can relate...
  22. We are so glad that you are alive! My Aunt experienced this, but she does not have celiac disease. She had a hernia. The hospital was more focused on her pneumonia and put off treating her hernia. She has fully recovered and has adjusted to her colostomy bag. I am sure you will be fine too.
  23. Do you have celiac disease? A low blood count can be attributed to many things, but it can be a result of celiac disease (it is a possibility, e.g. iron-deficiency). There are over 200 symptoms for celiac disease, so it is hard to say.
  24. Hi Mystic! Are those food intolerance tests accurate? Not very, based on research presented here and on allergy sites. I recall that you had Psoriatic Arthritis. Has the gluten free diet helped with that condition? Have you investigated the AIP Diet? A small study out of Scripps in San Diego found over 70% of their IBD (Ulcerative Colitis...
  25. Welcome! Please consider getting him tested for celiac disease before you put him on gluten diet. All celiac testing requires a person to be on a full gluten diet. A formal diagnosis can help a person adhere to the diet and get the school and medical support needed.
