  1. I did not think you were rude at all! Congratulations on your weight loss. I am glad you feel better!
  2. That is horrible! The GI should have caught it. But I get it. Two months after my celiac disease diagnosis, I got sick, passed out and the paramedics and doctors thought I was having a heart attack. I could not get off the floor because my back hurt. I was admitted and they found nothing. My primary reviewed the hospital records and found two fractures...
  3. First, let me congratulate you on having and raising three children! Like most mothers, pregnancy caused some permanent changes in my body. Is my tummy completely flat? No. Are my beasts in the same place? No. But each time I catch myself complaining about my body (usually in those depressing, dimly-lit dressing rooms), I think about my beautiful daughter...
  4. I am confused. How long were you gluten free before your celiac testing? Were you diagnosed by your primary? If a celiac blood test is positive, usually you are referred to a Gastroenterologist for an endoscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. I am sorry that you are sick and struggling. ?
  5. Hard to say. Everyone has a different glutening experience.
  6. I can not speak about the allergy tests, but you can have both a wheat allergy and have celiac disease. That said, it sounds like you have not been consuming gluten daily and that could explain your “weak positive” DGP. The IgA test just checks you for a deficiency and is used as a control test in the case of celiac disease. Your result is high, like min...
  7. Are you a gambler? All celiac disease testing requires a patient to be on a full gluten diet. For those who have been gluten free a challenge can be done. Gluten must e consumed daily for 8 to 12 weeks (2 to 4 prior to an endoscopy). Why so long? It can take some people that long for antibodies to reach the bloodstream. https://www.cureceliacdisease...
  8. I am sorry that you had such a reaction! Did they say why a person with celiac disease would react? Just curious. I am glad that you recovered!
  9. If you really want to know if a gluten free diet is going to help your psoriasis, then you need to avoid gluten as if you had celiac disease. Actually, you may consider the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) diet (which has gluten free components). It does not allow alcohol. Might be worth trying it for six weeks. This small study showed that Crohn’s and Ulcerative C...
  10. Weren’t your antibodies up in November? I would say you are still suffering from an active celiac flare. It will take time to recover. Listen to your body and rest. You will feel better soon!
  11. Consider confirming with the GI as to exactly how many biopsies were taken and their location. Get a copy of the pathologist’s report, the endoscopy notes, and your lab results from the blood tests as you may want to get a second consult and it is good to keep for life! I can tell you that during my last endoscopy (after being gluten-free for f...
  12. Use a double rinse always on your wash cycle. That and gentle detergent (think Baby Dreft or one developed for allergies). Use less than half of what the manufacturer recommends. (It often is ploy to get you to use more detergent, in my opinion.) Newer washers use less water. Boo! You might even need a third rinse on one of the water-saving...
  13. Alas, there was no Aha! moment for celiac disease. I went in for a routine colonoscopy (yep, I am over 50). During my GI consult, he suggested testing me for celiac disease because I had been anemic all my life. I do have a genetic anemia is that is mild, but the iron-deficiency anemia was blamed on heavy periods — not! Anyway, my GI was right. Despite n...
  14. Here Are two lists of gluten free foods: https://celiac.org/live-gluten-free/glutenfreediet/food-options/ http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/treatment/ Eating gluten free need not be expensive if you avoid gluten free processed foods. Read our Newbie 101 thread located at the top of our “Coping” section of the forum for some valuable tips. G...
  15. Okay, you have the genes (as do some 30% of the population) but the telling sign is your reaction to the gluten free diet — you feel better! I completely understand your wanting a diagnosis. It is nice to have affirmation that you are not a hypochondriac. My hubby went Gluten Free, like you, per the advice of my allergist and his GP. It worked a...
  16. I eat them (sparingly because I am a diabetic and potatoes raise my blood sugar). I have several bags in the freezer and dang it, I gave in and ate some with my lettuce-wrapped burger the other day. I have some remorse though. They did not taste as good as I thought they would. Guess my tastebuds for junk food has diminished. Homemade fries or roasted...
  17. Thank you! I will check that out. ?
  18. I use McCormick spices (no mixes/blends except pumpkin spice). My intestines are healed! They have a good reputation.
  19. It is hard. I often have to go through each ingredient and look it up in the internet. Can you call the Mary Kay customer service line? Unless you are sweating profusely (this can happen to me while riding on my bike), odds are the lotion will not go into your mouth. Just wash your hands carefully.
  20. I am sorry your daughter is ill. I assume she has been gluten free since her celiac disease diagnosis? Is it possible to get a second opinion from another doctor regarding the kidney biopsy?
  21. Advocating for yourself? 1. Learn all you can about celiac disease or any other issue you might have. 2. Create a family health history tree. I did this for my extended family. Made it easier for my niece to get her Crohn’s diagnosis after they ruled out celiac disease. Her GI was impressed as were my doctors. Create a nice visual chart that can b...
  22. Me too, because I test positive only to the DGP IgA (even on follow-up tests). The TTG test is very good, but does not catch all celiacs. But it could also be done to help confirm a diagnosis after the endoscopy has been completed and if villi damage is revealed (many other things can cause villi damage beside Celiac Disease). Talk to your doctor about...
  23. If you have been grain free for a long time, you were lucky to get a positive in the celiac panel. Gluten must have been in your diet all along. Be sure to check all labels. You might consider getting an endoscopy or a pill camera. I recently had a follow-up endoscopy. My celiac antibodies were elevated and I was on a pretty strict gluten-free...
  24. I have one kid and she tested negative (complete panel). She seems to be doing okay. Thyroid good and no anemia (the way I presented). She is due for another panel, but drawing blood is horrible for her. They have to use a Ped needle. It is painful, no matter how competent the phlebotomist. AI issues run amok on both sides of the family. She...
