  1. Those lab tests are not recognized by celiac disease research centers. Consider getting the standard blood tests as recommended by the American Gastroenterologists Association. https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/why-dont-you-recognize-tests-stool-tests-or-otherwise-for-gluten-sensitivity-that-are-currently-available-through-companies-like...
  2. You only had the TTG celiac test. There are others like the DGP (IgA and IgG versions) and the EMA IgA. You might be like me (biopsy confirmed). I only test positive to the DGP. I have never had a positive TTG and I have had done repeatedly. Know too that about 10% of celiacs are seronegative. Google it. Then going to endoscopy is going to get you...
  3. Yep, all autoimmune is related. My thyroid Enlargement and nodules are no longer detectable since I went gluten free to treat my celiac disease. Keeping my immune system calm has improved my health.
  4. Use the search feature of the forum. @Ennis_TX has great suggestions.
  5. Have you met a doctor who is at least open-minded and is willing to follow celiac disease recommended follow-up care guidelines? I did this with my new PCP after I was diagnosed by my GI. I presented my health history and also a family tree of health issues to my new PCP. I also gave her guidelines from University of Chicago. Luckily, she was supportive...
  6. But @Hopelessly confused said that after her positive lab test a year ago, she continued to consume gluten daily up until her next set of blood tests which then turned out to be negative. She had a complete celiac panel which included the EMA, TTG and DGP. She is not IgA deficient. I think long term members on this forum realize that once...
  7. Sure, buy bread from the store. I like Northern Bakehouse. I have made bread, but it is too hot to bake in the summer. The store- bought bread freezes well. I just defrost on the counter a few slices as needed. Toasted tastes best. My kid makes cinnamon or peanut butter toast. She likes rice porridge with honey, cinnamon, cream and butter...
  8. Your plan sounds good. This is your chance to consume plenty of meats, eggs, veggies, fruits, rice, nuts, etc. Choose nutritionally dense foods. Of course, indulge in some gluten-free goodies to keep you sane. But I think the good news is that baby gets the best at the expense of mother! Any symptoms? I just had life-long anemia. My hemoglobin...
  9. It took some digging, but I did find some information on your link. Ingredients are listed (not located in the normal spots, tiny and required the product photos to be enlarged which is no easy feat for the tech challenged/device), but no mention of gluten on the label. No “gluten free” or “free from” list. The ingredients list “starch”, but not the sou...
  10. Wendy, please reach out and join Celiac.com’s forum. I think you will find many people who have walked in your shoes. I have been gluten free for seven years. While it has been an adjustment, the trade off for good health has been so much better. If an online forum is not for you, consider joining a local celiac disease support group or a group that d...
  11. Wow, again! You were strongly positive a year ago. I personally never had a positive on the TTG or EMA even in repeated tests over the years. Just a positive DGP IgA (am also biopsy-confirmed). So, you have been eating gluten daily since that first celiac panel? I am stumped. Are you sure these lab results were actually yours? ...
  12. Did you wash and cut it yourself? Did you know that celiacs can have additional food tolerances? Watermelon may not be okay for your right now. For example, I had issues with whole corn. It hurt to digest due to my damaged gut, but with healing, I can consume whole corn kernels. I also overcame my lactose intolerance , but I still can not consume...
  13. Get your Vitamin D from the sun! Obtaining it from food sources is possible, but the sun does a much better job. Vitamin D can be low because of where you live or how much sunscreen you wear. I am celiac. Was never low in Vitamin D, but I am in the sun daily for 10 minutes. I wear sunscreen only when I am going to be outdoors for longer periods of...
  14. No one knows exactly what triggers celiac disease. This article just suggests that more research is needed.
  15. How do you know that your celiac disease is well controlled? Do you get repeat antibodies testing or a repeat endoscopy? Are you basing it on symptoms alone? If you are well controlled, you should be able to absorb vitamins and minerals. If not, you might have an additional illnesses. Having more than one autoimmune disorder is common. I have...
  16. Wow! I would report this doctor to the medical board. Not informing you of your tests results is inexcusable. Not to follow up a few months later to see how you are faring is also inexcusable (not to mention that you should have been referred to a Gastroenterologist). Please post your test results and lab ranges. In the meantime, a gluten-free...
  17. Hey, DJF, you might want to wait to see what your nutritionist says. He may run a few blood tests to check for deficiencies.
  18. You are going through a normal grieving process. It will take time to master the gluten-free diet and feel better. It will take time for your family and friends to adjust, but they will (if not, maybe they are not worth having as friends). Our whole society is based on food. But look for other ways to connect. I invite friends to walk or hike with me...
  19. Hang in there. It does get better, but it takes time. 😊 Glad you are seeing a nutritionist! Sorry about the job. But take this time to build up a little endurance. I walked after my diagnosis. I had no option as I had some new back fractures. i also had some severe anemia (low hemoglobin) which could have led to heart issues. I was so bu...
  20. I am sorry, I mixed you up with someone else. Still, I am concerned that SummerAnne, who has lost so much weight, is living on OJ and water. Not to mention that she has not had any celiac disease follow-up care.
  21. Why give up eggs? Just drinking water and OJ is not safe! Nothing against Mr. PK, but he is new, does not have celiac disease or mast cell issues. Besides checking to see if you have active celiac disease, consider an allergist or find another PCP who is willing to get to the bottom of your allergy symptoms.
  22. Wow! 2013 was a long time ago. It would be usual for you to be diagnosed without an antibodies blood test. Possible, but rare. I think you should ask for your medical records. As a mom if a university student, I would urge you to keep all your medical records. You should be receiving follow-up celiac disease care as recommended by the celiac...
  23. Are you under a doctor’s care? Dapsone can have some pretty serious side effects like many medications. Things like liver screenings should be done by your doctor. Our members have shared that they have used it initially, but then focused on maintaining a strict gluten free diet. Please browse the DH section of the forum. Look for posts fro. SquirmingItch, ...
  24. When your doctors (or you) suspect celiac disease, they are looking for antibodies in your blood. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. The small intestine is destroyed by your own body. Gluten just “turns on” the attack process. If you have a wheat allergy, you normally produce a lot of IgE which can cau...
  25. If you are not lactose intolerant or have a true milk allergy, then feel free to consume dairy. Many celiacs at the beginning are lactose intolerant, but that can resolve once the small intestine heals.
