  1. Here is some information on the topic of histamine intolerance and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. This blogger is also a member of Celiac.com (Jebby). She is a Neonatologist (premie baby doctor) who has celiac disease and four kids. http://www.thepatientceliac.com/tag/histamine-intolerance-and-celiac-disease/ I hope you figure it out. I have...
  2. Parents, have you looked into a Histamine Intolerance as Gotta Ski discussed? I know it is considered "new" here in the US. (SIBO is more accepted in the US and HI is more accepted in Europe.) I had been gluten-free for 2 1/2 years when I was glutened badly. I was only anemic when I was first diagnosed. After my glutening experience (confirmed...
  3. Bartful, Like Scarett O'Hara, I decided to "Think about it tomorrow." in the hopes that I could write a response that would best describe my feelings and thoughts. Well, a few days have passed and it is not getting any easier! I respect your decision regarding your healthcare and I am so sorry that this is happening to you. You will be missed...
  4. I am sorry that your doctors were not able to help you! I am glad that you are doing so well now! It is hard for many to remain gluten free for life. It can be done (hubby has been gluten-free for 14 years without a diagnosis) but there are many reasons someone like Deryk should be tested before going gluten free. Why? http://celiacdisease.about...
  5. Who knows? Could be celiac disease, allergies, food intolerances, etc. Consider getting tested or learning more about celiac disease. The University of Chicago has a very good web-site on celiac disease: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/medical-professionals/guide/diagnosis Also consider keeping a food journal. Good Luck!
  6. Consider getting tested for celiac disease prior to going gluten free. But, to answer your question, it can take a few months to several years to recover from celiac disease.
  7. I was glutened in July. Badly. I have NO clue as to what got me. I suspect two things 1) a gluten free store- brand, product that might have been mis-labeled and 2) a prescription generic medication (contacted the manufacturer to confirm a gluten-free status but got the old liability statement of no guarantees). Both items were NEVER consumed by my gluten...
  8. I have never had DH. However, I have had "allergies" all my life. Weird things like being allergic to the cold (cold urticaria), anaphlatic reactions to medications, and some foods (though mild). After my last glutening (unknown source), I became very ill. Vomiting, ab pain, etc. My antibodies were sky high. I became lactose intolerant and then.....passing...
  9. I think this is excellent advice! I do not have DH, but when I was glutened in July (confirmed by follow-up antibody testing in August by my GI), my recovery took about three months which included becoming lactose intolerant again! At the same time, I was getting a rash and hives appearing every few days (if not daily). This was managed with anti-histamines...
  10. I did a quick search about this diet. In my opinion, it would not be suitable for celiacs. There are few gluten-free options and they are not really healthy choices (e.g. Banana pudding, mashe potatoes). I would worry about cross contamination. Have you tried a low carb high fat diet? Sugar seems to be the culprit today and fat is no longer the...
  11. Those probiotics could be making you sick! GI doctors were puzzled that many of their celiac patients were not getting well so they tested about 20 probiotics marketed in the US this year: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/294043.php My recommendation? Either purchase certified gluten-free supplements (tested) or avoid them all together...
  12. Squirming itch is right. I drank a Diet Coke on Saturday during a party and I did not get glutened. It was full of Carmel coloring. There was not any safe party food for me. Diet Coke is not healthy, but at least I looked like I was indulging in something!
  13. This posting is ten years old and product formulations may have changed. Best bet is to read the label for gluten-containing ingrediants and/or call the manufacturer. I do not worry about mascara. The odds of me swallowing it are slim and none. I do worry about lotions though. And lipsticks, glosses or lip balms must be gluten free! Welcome to...
  14. The IGA deficiency test is just a control test to see if the IgA tests (TTG, DGP) are valid. Otherwise your doctor would have to run the IgG versions. It is hard to say, but since you had been gluten free for so long I think the tests are invalid despite your attempt at a gluten challenge. You might just have to go gluten free without a formal diagnosis...
  15. What about suggesting outings that do not require food? Like the movies, bowling, museums, concert, etc. I can tell you that I used to pack picnic meals for my dates. Everyone loved them! We'd go to a museum and then picnic outside. I can tell you that my husband still asks for picnics (so this strategy worked). I was not gluten free back then -- just...
  16. Blueberries in cheese? I'm going to look for it in our stores (West Coast). Tonight is Tri-Tip steak (West Coast cut) with mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Too tired to pull a salad together. We had an all-day marching band tournament.
  17. Sorry, to hear about your newly acquired egg intolerance. Let's hope that you will get eggs back someday. Welcome to the forum!
  18. I have been snacking on cheese imported from England (fancy!) that contains cranberries. Yum! Beats eating peanut butter off the spoon! I have never had Chestnuts, but they sound good.
  19. Here are the tests: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG-Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG-EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test)-AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests-endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken You ou have to be consuming gluten daily for...
  20. I grilled chicken wings for lunch today too and served it with a nice green salad. The rest of the day was devoted to my FIL's birthday party. Served Tri-Tip and sausages, baked beans, green salad, jello, and potato salad. Then best was the lemon pound cake, pumpkin raisin cupcakes, and cheesecake. No one could tell that they were gluten-free! I am...
  21. It makes sense. I can actually see my stomach poking out under my rib cage. It would pinch too if I leaned over. My spleen is okay. My stomach looks normal now after healing. Do you have celiac disease?
  22. Well, it is the second day of rain sprinkles here in California. It finally feels like Fall even though I am still wearing shorts and flip flops! I am happy not to be running the air conditioner. Alas, it will not last. Temperatures to hit 100 degrees by the weekend. I am making chili and salad for tonight's dinner to celebrate the rain and the hint...
  23. Here is a link to a posting made by Jebby, who is a PED doctor with celiac disease. She posted about this very topic! https://www.celiac.com/forums/blog/1038/entry-1762-eosinophilic-esophagitis-and-celiac-disease/
  24. Many celiacs also have eosinophilia esophagitis brought on by allergies (at least I have seen many postings). Has this been discussed? Here is a link: http://acaai.org/allergies/types/food-allergies/types-food-allergy/eosinophilic-esophagitis Welcome to the forum! You might consider copying this blog entry into the regular forum section. The blogs...
