  1. I beg to differ Gemini. Not all celiacs heal even on a gluten free diet. Read this study done by Joseph Murrary MD, Mayo Cinic as published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. http://www.celiac.nih.gov/TissueDamage.aspx The reality is that even the leading celiac researchers do not have all the answers. I am not trying to scare people, but...
  2. Places like Petsmart have gluten-free pet food. I buy mine at Costco.
  3. I use Lipton tea bags too. Whew! It's going to be over 100 degrees today. Heading to the refrigerator for some ice tea that I brewed this morning!
  4. When was the last time you had a celiac blood panel? And what were the results? I assume that you are being dietary compliant? That is not an insult! I know you are well informed and diligent about the GF diet. My recently anitbodies tests were positive. I knew I was glutened five weeks ago and then most likely glutened again (was on vacation). I...
  5. Plenty of fluids, rest and easy-to-digest food for a few days or a week encourages healing from an accidental healing works best for me (and most people on this forum based on my observation).
  6. Does pineapple or papaya bother you? Look for the enzyme plant source. That might be the issue besides not taking them with plenty of food.
  7. Bane, Any GP or an Endo can test for autoimmune thyroiditis. Ask for a thyroid antibody panel as it sounds like you did not get a full thyroid panel run (nor a complete celiac panel). Remember, you can choose to go gluten free if all else fails! I am formally diagnosed, but my hubby is not. He has been gluten-free for 14 years!
  8. Yep, it sounds normal, but remember everyone has different experiences. The learning curve for maintaining a gluten-free diet is steep. Review our Newbie 101 section under the "Coping" section for valuable tips. It sounds like you are getting glutened often! Plus, it can take a while to heal. A long time if gluten is sneaking into your diet. Take...
  9. My TTg tests were negative. Only one, the DGP iga was positive! Biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). Thank goodness my Celiac savvy GI ordered the complete panel. Our PCP ran the entire panel for my kid which was negative in all tests and she is symptom free. He ran the full test because of my wacky results! My mom's insurance...
  10. I am sorry that you feel that way. I am NOT a doctor and the advice I gave you was based on personal experience. The worse abdominal pain I have experienced has resulted from a non-functioning gallbladder. Severe enough to cause me to pass out. Like celiac disease, a non-functioning gallbladder can be difficult to diagnose. It was just "something...
  11. It sounds like a gallbladder attack. Just something to think about.
  12. Any medical doctor can order the complete celiac panel: -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests -endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken (Source: NVSMOM -- ) You can not exclude celiac disease...
  13. I think you should not look necessarily at the scale. What is your BMI? What is your body fat percentage? What is your age (being perimenopausal can cause an average of 10 pounds in weigh gain as your body tries to create estrogen from anywhere outside of your ovaries to maintain a hormone balance)? What is high insulin? Do you mean high blood glucose...
  14. Oatmeal in the diningroom should be safe in your case and any prepackaged yogurt is usually fine (read the label). We never eat at the specialty restaurants as we were told that for the most part they were not set up to handle gluten free (e.g. Pizza or burgers) and we travel in such a huge group. I would talk to the manager at the Chops Grille since most...
  15. Hi! RC was wonderful, but there is only so much that they can do to insure your safety. So, start with a clean slate as far as your past experiences and expectations go. Hopefully, your family will cooperate so that you can all enjoy the trip! You can bring your gluten-free snacks or special dressing on board (purchase at your starting port...
  16. We had a great experience twice on RC. Will write more in a few hours. Have lots of tips! I am heading out the door!
  17. Get to your GYN for an exam. You could have an ovarian cyst, fibroid tumor or thyroid issue that is completely unrelated to celiac disease. Take care!
  18. Welcome to the forum. I am glad you are on the road to recovery!
  19. Welcome to the forum. I am glad you are on you way to healing!
  20. Nice story, I hope you are feeling better. Welcome to the forum!
  21. I have been on Royal Carribean a few times. Here are a few tips. When booking, notify the carrier of your gluten-free needs. Upon entering the ship the first day, the buffet restaurant is usually the only thing open. Find a head waiter there (they are usually greeting passengers in the doorway) and tell them you have celiac disease and must be gluten...
  22. Thanks for the posting and welcome to the forum. Just wanted you to know that chances are, you will not get a response. This is a really old posting!
  23. Well, I understand your frustration, but I am thankful about the gluten-free fad. I have been only gluten-free for 2 years, but hubby has been for 14. There are so many products available and labeling is much clearer than 14 years ago. Hubby says he gets less glutened as a result. He can at least travel and grab gluten-free foods and not starve! Mind...
  24. Still thinking about dinner. For a lazy Sunday lunch we made nachos in the oven! So easy. Used frozen defrosted shredded chicken (thanks, Costco) over refried beans, gluten-free chips, cheese and baked until hot and melted. Added salsa, quacamole, sour cream and green chili's. Yum! I think I will finish with another "fast food" dinner. Lettuce...
  25. My Grandma's parakeet could say about 20 words or sayings! He would come when called just like a dog. it was amazing. We always laughed when Lucky said, "Wanna a beer?" My advice Is to avoid a mirror in the cage. Let her bond to you! Save a mirror for an occasional treat. A bit off topic In this section of the forum, so I will quit!
