  1. Glad to hear that! I was worried! Happy to hear about your parakeet. What's his name?
  2. Casper, Please call this hotline number now! I am sure they can help you. I care! 1-800-273-8255
  3. Well, first you are pretty sick! Who knows what damage has been done to your body as a result of your celiac disease? On top of that you are are perimenopausal! A double whammy! I can completely relate! I was 51 when I was diagnosed. Two years later, I am so much better! But I am sorry to report that I am struggling with my post menopausal symptoms...
  4. What did you end up making for dessert?
  5. Six to eight months on a gluten free diet is not very long. The learning curve is so steep! I understand that your antibodies have dropped dramatically, but I think that recovery still takes much longer. I felt better and my anemia resolved within six months, but my intestinal damage took about two years. I have not had a follow-up endoscopy yet, but...
  6. Congratulations!
  7. Tri-tip steak, roasted asparagus, buttered carrots, and salad for the birthday girl who turned 14! gluten-free Chocolate mayonnaise cake and a gluten-free chocolate mint chip ice cream pie! Can not wait!
  8. I would try the Zyrtec and a Nedi pot. Let's face it, some of us have allergies and nothing natural that I have found (outside the Nedi pot helps). My congestion is seasonal. So, if it is year round you might suspect a few foods too. Can not avoid the pollen, weeds, etc outside. Do you consume garlic? I can smell that on anyone!
  9. Hey, there is an In N Out less than four miles away! We eat there safely! Tell them you have a gluten allergy.
  10. I think it is about as safe as you are going to get at a university. Are the baked goods certified and prepackaged? Where are the gluten-free toaster ovens kept? Is someone going to throw in gluten-containing toast in the gluten-free toaster oven to save time? Are they baking gluten-free baked goods in dedicated areas using gluten-free equipment? Can...
  11. Congratulations on getting accepted. Is SB short for Santa Barbara?
  12. Well, I think it is still gluten free. I serve it to my hubby who never reacts (he is my canary!) I do not eat it because I am allergic to garlic. Sometimes tomatoes, part of the nightshade family) bothers me. Also I am intolerant to mushrooms. Have been for 20 years. Just tested it again with some sautéed mushrooms and I got sick. Chances are ...
  13. I agree with BlessedMonmy. In my gluten days, I used a bread machine. That is because I worked full time. Nice to have fresh bread in the morning made while I was sleeping. Then I quit to be with my new baby and I baked from scratch. I loved kneading dough. I had time to allow for risings. But with gluten-free bread, all that kneading is is not necessary...
  14. Just like thyroid or celiac disease antibodies, GAD tests for type 1 diabetes which can develop as an adult. It is called LADA (Lantent Autoimmune Diabetes). I have not been tested at this time since my doc and I agree that the treatment is the same whether I have type 1 or 2 for now. I decided against testing since I was barely positive on my celiac...
  15. Did your doctor talk to you about celiac disease? Did he offer testing? Here is some information about celiac disease. Unfortunately you have to be eating gluten in order for the to be accurate. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/medical-professionals/guide/factsheets I can recommend keeping a food journal to help identify intolerances. I hope...
  16. Going gluten free will not impact your blood sugar. You could be developing diabetes -- hypoglycemia. I would advise getting tested. Your diet seems to lack fat and protein which will keep you more satiated throughout the day. Might consider or research that. Why did you cut calories? Why did you give up gluten?
  17. Welcome! Please read the "Newbie 101" thread under our "Coping section". It contains valuable information on avoiding gluten in processed foods or avoiding cross contamination. Even kissing your BF after he consumes something with gluten will make you sick. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ You can get better! We did! Sounds...
  18. So sorry that you were glutened! Yep. Happened on Delta going for Atanta to London this past summer. Food was marked with a Sharpie "gluten-free " on the foil wrapping but the packaged roll and dessert were clearly labeled from the manufacturer and contained wheat. I pre-ordered gluten free months before for the fun of it. We did not eat it. We...
  19. I must have been asleep at the wheel and missed your update! Congratulations! I am so happy for you.
  20. You are probably reacting to the tannin that can be found in the skin, seeds and stems of the grapes. Red wines have more. I love red wine, but it does not like me. It really triggers my Rosacea!
  21. Sorry to hear about your struggles. But I am happy that you got a diagnosis! It can only get better from here!
  22. JD, I am so sorry! Is possible to get a second opinion? Did the new GI doc offer any treatment to relieve you of some of your symptoms? Did you actually see the biopsy results?
  23. I eventually narrowed my intolerance to store-bought bread and crackers to Xanthan gum. I switched to products using guar gum. I use Pamela's flour though I am sure there are others on the market. But I only bake cupcakes and cookies. I just gave up bread. I must say that my husband (gluten-free for 13 years) has never had an issue with commercial breads...
