  1. Brush on oil of your choice. That is what you did in the olden days!
  2. Gee, it is hard to see your kid suffering! Have you checked out the Newbie 101 tips under our "Coping" section? Little things like pet food or kisses can be cross contamination issue. Here is the link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I had lots of other food intolerances resulting from Celiac damage. Try keeping a journal...
  3. I think you need time! Lots of it! I did not feel good until I had been gluten-free for 9 months. I am back to my old exercise routine and I am now back to cranking at work and my volunteer work and family life, but I still have off days. I know that I just do not have celiac disease. I have Hashi's, diabetes, allergies and food intolerances that I have...
  4. Humm....I buy all those products except for the rice (I make my own). I guess it could be the tortillas, but we have never been glutened by them or any of our other local brands. All those brands, like Mission, are made in a shared facility, but they did not say that they were made on shared lines. We live in So Calif. and I can not imagine that they are...
  5. I buy Mission tortillas and have never been glutened. There is flour in the facility, but not that close for cross contamination. I have not confirmed it, but they crank out so many tortillas that I am sure they have dedicated lines. There is a better chance of getting cross contaminated in a gluten-free trained restaurant for sure! Mission's disclosure...
  6. Flea comb works great on my dog. Just plop the fleas fast into a bowl and soapy water and watch them drown fast! Advantage works well, but we pick up fleas on the trail and the comb gets the few that jump on her.
  7. Well, it could be other things like MS, thyroid issues, medications, dehydration, lack of potassium, calcium and other minerals, etc. I understand that it developed after your diagnosis. I fractured two vertebrae doing NOTHING two months after my celiac disease diagnosis. Just going gluten free for two months is not going to solve damage that has been...
  8. Hi Eric! Welcome! Two months is probably too soon for complete intestinal healing. Sometimes it can take a couple of years to fully re grow villi. Plus, there is a huge learning curve when it comes to going gluten free and that can slow you down. I took additional supplements at the beginning. I am sure I did not absorb most of them, but I...
  9. U of Chicago's fee screening is 10/11/2014, if he can wait that long. At least you know the right tests would be done.
  10. Here are my ideas (and they may be way off).... My husband went gluten free 13 years ago. I fed him purchased gluten-free bread and goodies and he did not have any issues. I was then diagnosed and I started eating gluten-free products. I thought I was getting glutened. Turns out it was Xanthan gum found in many certified gluten-free products. Anyone...
  11. I would imagine that like every gluten-causing-symptom, it would take weeks to years to resolve. Everyone is different depending on their damage. I know this really does not help. Based in input I have seen on this forum, for those with NCGI or celiac disease, a minimum of six months is needed.
  12. Your GI based this new diagnosis on a second biopsy? Were you tested for SIBO at the time of your biopsies? Depending on the damage first found (I had a Marsh stage IIIB), it can take up to three years for complete healing. First, you must consider age (kids tend to heal faster) and then you must master the gluten free diet. That in itself, has a steep...
  13. Walk to the Gas Lamp District to the Old Spaghetti Factory. They are well trained. The menu even tells you to notify the manger. All food comes out separately. Menu is limited for Comic Con, but they should still have gluten-free items. Not expensive either. It is a family place. Whole meal comes with salad, pasta, tea, coffee or milk and ice cream...
  14. I purchased a Nesco Oven that was still in the original box at a garage sale. It sits on a table on the back patio along side my trusty old crockpot. I love my outdoor kitchen as it does not heat up the house!
  15. Grilling chicken wings and zucchini after I get back from band practice. Kid is in charge of the salad. She always creates artistic presentations. Makes the sale taste so much better!
  16. Grilling chicken wings and zucchini tonight with salad. Prepping food for camping this weekend at the beach. Tomorrow afternoon, I will be reading and drinking a glass of wine with my old faithful lab lying next to me in the sand! Can not wait!
  17. You may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Continue the gluten-free diet and check every single ingredient for gluten. Be sure to eat lots of healthy whole foods to avoid weight loss. Take care!
  18. Check your thyroid (hypo). That can contribute to heavy periods, along with perimenopause.
  19. I went to the senior water aerobics class Friday and hammed it up with a bunch of nice ladies. Felt that workout, too. But exercising in the water is definitely much much easier on my joints, I will continue it for sure.
  20. Jamie, Glad you are back! I can not have eggs either, but can eat them in baked goods. I keep testing it (last 20 years) but no luck! Made a soft-boiled egg two weeks ago or so, and it made me sick. Ugh! Tonight is grilled pork tenderloin, salad and some asparagus.
  21. Wow! What a gift, Lisa! I wish your nephew much success and happiness!
  22. Lisa -- close to the beach, but the winds full of dirt, smoke and "melted countertops" are heading in your direction. Turn off the a/c if it is drawing in outside air. Take care! Winds are going again up in the North OC . Our outside thermometer says 108 degrees (but it is in the sun). I am going outside to fry an egg on the sidewalk!
  23. Seriously, it hit 100 yesterday and we opted for cold Costco chicken, cold salad and cold cantaloupe. Tonight it is grilled pork tenderloin and more cold salad and fruit. It is expected to be even HOTTER! Ugh! What happened to "Gray May" (ocean-driven, cloudy-overcast that typically occurs until noon and keeps temperatures moderate)? I sure hope "June...
  24. Have you read the newbie section under "Coping"? There are lots of tips to expedite healing -- like giving up dairy until your intestines heal.
