  1. Call the manufacturer and make sure your BP meds are gluten free. Mt hubby gets a name brand and not a generic. Just easier to insure it is gluten free. What hormone injections? Growth or birth control control?
  2. What does the label say? List of ingredients? Most toothpastes do not contain gluten. Call the manufacturer if you are unsure.
  3. Are you verifying that your BP medication is gluten free? My husband has to use a name brand BP not a generic. We insist in it because we want ti insure it is gluten free.
  4. Karen’s advice is spot on. She got her teen boys to eat veggies! I have an 18 year old daughter who does not have celiac disease but she survived middle school. They are trying so hard to establish some sense of independence from you and fitting in with their peers at that age. It does get better with maturity. Hormones do crazy things to kids. ...
  5. Hey guys! Did you see this new research? Now researchers might be able to test on mice who have developed celiac disease (and can heal) instead of people, thus not potentially causing harm. Good news indeed! http://news.uchicago.edu/story/breakthrough-mouse-model-celiac-disease-could-lead-new-treatments
  6. Autoimmune issues and many illnesses can share the same exact symptoms. It is why antibodies blood testing and intestinal biopsies are used to diagnose celiac disease.
  7. What Fenrir said is spot on! It takes time to heal. Most celiacs take up to a year to heal, so be patient. Anemia was my main (only really) symptom (my ferritin was a 2 and hemoglobin Was very very low). My GI prescribed iron supplements. I was able to tolerate them and my ferritin rose quickly in just two months or so. I did have an advantage...
  8. Hey guys! I just want to repeat that if you have had a celiac disease diagnosis or have been gluten free for a few years, your symptoms may not just be due to gluten exposures. You can develop additional illnesses. You should follow-up with your doctor like NNowak did. I had GERD-like symptoms after a gluten exposure made worse by a tooth infection...
  9. Well, they do not know what triggers any autoimmune disease. celiac disease is the only AI which the trigger is known—gluten. When I was diagnosed with celiac disease, my only symptom was anemia. I just went in for a routine colonoscopy because I had hit 50 and all my friends were getting screened for colon cancer. My GI, during the consult, n...
  10. It sounds like you are doubting your Crohn’s diagnosis. Consider getting your records and getting a second opinion. Know that not everyone has classic Crohn’s symptoms. My niece just used to have these GI attacks a couple of times a year. Celiac disease was firmly ruled out, but her 4th GI found Crohn’s damage well beyond the reach of both scopes. In ...
  11. I am sorry that you are ill. I am not sure that I understand your timeline. You were diagnosed in November 2019. At that time, you were also diagnosed or had earlier been diagnosed with Barrett’s and the hiatal hernia. In November, your villi were found flattened in your duodenum celiac disease) Is this correct? All I can offer is my own personal e...
  12. About 30 to 35% of the population carries the genes that could, I repeat, could develop into celiac disease. The genetic test just helps rule out celiac disease. It can not diagnose it. But with a very positive TTG and a positive genetic test, odds are you probably have celiac disease, but you should wait for your biopsy (pathologist’s report) and consult w...
  13. Wow! I was just expressing my personal, non-medical opinion, just as you were. No need to attack me. Wow! I was just expressing my personal, non-medical opinion, just as you were. No need to attack me.
  14. If you recently have experienced a gluten exposure, know that this means that your immune system is ramping up and attacking your small intestine. Anything you consume, gluten free or not, can cause your pain or irritation. Coffee might be irritating you now as it is acidic. Make sure your coffee is gluten free (flavored coffees can be suspect...
  15. I only tested positive to the DGP IgA, yet had intestinal damage. I never had a positive TTG IgA, TTG IgG or EMA even in many follow-up blood tests. It is a shame that your GI took only one biopsy when the American GI Association and celiac research centers recommend several and in specific locations. Did your GI tell you why he or she took only one?
  16. No, the studies are NOT very clear. If they were, leading celiac research centers would be recommending an AN-PEP as a treatment for the prevention or reduction of cross contamination (not a replacement for the gluten free diet). But it MAY help. Everyone has to decide for themselves. Exactly when did you start using an AN-PEP? What circumstances...
  17. Wow! It sounds like you were mis-diagnosed with celiac disease. Did you have intestinal biopsies to confirm it? If you had intestinal biopsies, along with a positive celiac blood test, you will always have celiac disease. It can go into remission by remaining on a gluten free diet. But it never really goes away. I am happy for your improved health...
  18. Here what the gluten-free Watchdog has to say: https://www.glutenfreewatchdog.org/news/update-on-the-gluten-free-status-of-yeast-extract/ So, just for piece of mind and since you are a newbie, if the bottle of dressing is not labeled gluten free, then do not buy it or use it. There are several brands of Ranch that I buy for my husband located in...
  19. In my case, two months after my celiac disease diagnosis, I fractured my T7 and T9 vertebrae doing nothing. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis due to years of undiagnosed celiac disease. You might want to see a doctor.
  20. Is it Gastroparesis or constipation? If it is the stomach not emptying (vomiting often resolves it), I am not sure taking a laxative is going to help. in any case, healing from celiac disease should help. You have to avoid gluten at all costs. Deviations from the diet can set you back (as you have discovered). Recovery for me is weeks or months...
  21. Hang in there! Listen to the wise advice from GFinDC. It takes time to heal. ?
  22. She does sound like she could have celiac disease, but it is hard to say. There are over 200 different symptoms attributed to celiac disease and those often overlap with other illnesses. So, doctors have to rely on blood tests and small intestinal biopsies to diagnose celiac disease. Anemia (low hemoglobin) is not normal in a six year old. There is something...
  23. I am sorry your child is ill. Anemia (low hemoglobin) can be a sign of celiac disease, it was for me. Make sure your child receives all the celiac disease blood tests. Usually, the TTG IgA and TTG IgG tests are given because they catch most celiacs for the money. But children often develop antibodies slowly. Ask for the DGP IgA and the DGP IgG...
  24. @docaz Thank you for answering my questions! ?
  25. Oh no! That long? Well. You are not the first to report this on the forum. Best to try to get a cancellation appointment. Put that phone number on speed dial! Not sure, but perhaps the timing of gluten intake can help. Like having some before going to bed. Anybody know if this would work? You just need a slice or two of bread daily....
