  1. Here is more about the diet designed by a team of celiac disease experts. Dr. Fasano is on that team. https://res.mdpi.com/nutrients/nutrients-09-01129/article_deploy/nutrients-09-01129.pdf?filename=&attachment=1 https://www.massgeneral.org/doctors/19184/Alessio-Fasano
  2. I have Hashimoto’s and I would not be happy with that TSH. My thyroid antibodies were off the charts, long before my TSH became elevated. You might have those antibodies checked. If your celiac disease diagnosis is confirmed, there could be a chance that your thyroid might be saved from damage by going on a gluten free diet. Some endocrinologists a...
  3. Welcome! Not sure if your timeline, but I hope you had been consuming gluten prior to your testing for celiac disease. All testing, even biopsies require you to be on a full daily gluten diet. For blood tests it is 8 to 12 weeks.
  4. Glad you know where you stand!
  5. That is good news. Keep us posted about your progress. ?
  6. @Rose G Check your state laws about seeing a doctor without your parents. I am linking this from California. At 15, you have the right to see a doctor in California. Yes, you can take your insurance card and your co-pay and see your doctor without your parents. Even though they are financially responsible for you (pay your health insurance premiums...
  7. Gluten is not found in IV drugs. If gluten is in drugs, it is usually is an inactive ingredient to bind the medication into a pill. I never worry about injections and IVs triggering my celiac disease. Anyone can have an allergic reaction to a drug or experience side effects. Talk to your doctor about these risks and how they might effect you.
  8. No, but many many members have liver issues that resolve once gluten free. Celiac disease is systemic and goes beyond just damaging the small intestine. You can confirm this by using the search box located at the top of the forum page. Also, MRIs catch lots of little things that normally turn out to be nothing. But is is prudent to get it checked...
  9. I had obvious gastritis (no. H.plylori) after my repeat endoscopy that did not exist on my first biopsy. I was diagnosed with Chronic Autoimmune Gastritis (biopsies). There is no treatment. Just wait and watch for iron and B-12 deficiencies (supplement/treat when needed) and possibly cancer. I am sharing this because it is possible to develop more than...
  10. That is great! Building celiac disease/gluten-free awareness takes a team effort. Now for my local hospital.....?
  11. I would see the specialist. A guy being anemic is not good. Every month a woman’s iron levels drop (not necessarily dramatically) due to menstruation, but the body amazingly recovers fast. Anemia can cause heart failure. Best to rule out cancer even though it is likely to be celiac disease over cancer. Bone issues? Two months after my diagnosis, ...
  12. Congratulations for joining the club you never thought you would join! The good news is that you know what you are dealing with. What a relief! Expect to go through a grieving process. This is normal. Anxiety ridden? Yes, this is common. So is depression. It often resolves on a gluten free diet. When exposed to gluten, I get snappy. My kid notices...
  13. Is her celiac disease in remission? How are her antibodies? I just read a story of a celiac teen who was getting sick again. He went to see Dr. Fasano (celiac expert and PED GI). The doctor asked the parents to step out of the room. The teen confessed to eating pizza on a few dates. He wanted to be normal. Not saying that this has happened to...
  14. Good that you are on medication. So, your weight gain, if thyroid or insulin resistance related, is being addressed. Why are you hypothyroid? Ask your doctor for the cause. Were your thyroid antibodies checked? This can help with a celiac disease diagnosis or any other autoimmune disease. Once you have one, you can develop more. Some folks do...
  15. I get it. While not a pasta girl, I was a baker. An excellent baker. Like the kind that made all my bread from scratch, even my hamburger buns. Wait a minute. I am still an excellent baker. With time, the gluten free version of bread and pasta will seem very tasty. You will forget wheat flour bread. Honestly. I just made a batch of Toll-House...
  16. I definitely believe that Celiacs who have DH must very very strict. Super strict. So glad that you found relief!
  17. I live in LA. My husband had major surgery about a year and a half ago. We did our due diligence. We went ahead of time and talked to the pharmacist and the dietician. While we felt comfortable that the hospital dietary department could keep my hubby safe, we were told flat out, that I would not be safe in the hospital cafeteria which was outsourced. ...
  18. Start in your own kitchen. Do you live with anyone else? If so, call a meeting. Explain that you need to be kept safe and everyone is going to have to learn some new kitchen practices like not sharing a colander or toaster (those things are too hard to clean). Or be like me, and toss or give away all things that have gluten in your home. Wait,...
  19. Because we are member driven? The topic is still valid.
  20. I do think you should assume anything. While you might not have celiac disease, you might. Everything Karen and Fenrir has said could be true. I had iron-deficiency anemia on and off my life. It was always blamed on my being a woman and due to a genetic anemia called Thalassemia. I always bounced back after a round of iron supplements. I...
  21. You can do this! Soon you will feel normal again! You have been given excellent advice. I was diagnosed at 51 and was pretty shocked like you. Anemia was my only symptom, but later I realized that many body systems had been impacted. I just chocked it up to aging. This forum has plenty of members who are willing to help you. If you are...
  22. Hi! Many celiacs can be overweight at the time of diagnosis. Instead of wasting away, the body fights for nutrients and weight is added on. https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/wp-content/uploads/CdC_Newsletter_0513.pdf What are you doing for your hypothyroidism? Are you on hormone replacement (prescription)? Autoimmune thyroiditis is common...
  23. Many, many members report withdrawal symptoms that last a week or two. Hang in there! P.S. You can use the forum search box and enter “withdrawal” and I bet you get lots of hits and can verify what I said.
  24. My husband has had plantar fasciitis and I think it is not related to celiac disease as I have several friends who experienced it too. Talk to your doctor.
