  1. Severity depends on the celiac. Some celiacs are asymptomatic. For me, a celiac disease reaction can last weeks or months. It triggers my other autoimmune disorders. You had most of the celiac tests. The last is the EMA, but the DGP and TTG are superior. Do you have any other risk factors for celiac disease? You might consider looking into...
  2. Ok. I am sorry you have to wait. Perhaps, you can see if there are any cancellations. You might be able to see the consultant sooner.
  3. Welcome! Exactly which celiac blood tests were given? If your PCP had ordered only a screening TTG test, then your diagnosis for celiac disease may have been missed. Also, about 10% of celiacs are seronegative. I hope it was your GI who suggested going gluten free and not your PCP. Reactions to gluten do become more severe the longer you...
  4. I am sorry. I think we are not communicating well. Why are they making you stay on a gluten diet for four weeks after your endoscopy? If you have always been eating gluten daily and have never gone gluten free, they should have been able to blood test you on the same day as your endoscopy or the next day if they forgot. I assumed you had been...
  5. Not to be mean, but can you really recommend a product that is not recommended by any celiac disease research center or non-profit celiac disease support organization? Maybe they might be helpful for those who are gluten free as a means of losing weight or a FODMAP issue. But in that case, gluten does not cause them any serious harm anyway..... https...
  6. The flu! Oh no! ? Get plenty of rest. It can take a week to recover. Be patient, you will feel better soon. I bring food when I travel in case I can not find gluten-free food. But even those convenience stores carry cheese and yogurt. I had that last summer, along with a bag of gluten-free potato chips and a banana. Nutritious? Not really...
  7. What I think you need is a new dentist. My dentist takes me seriously. We have been with him since he opened his practice and he trained with our old dentist who was very highly regarded around here by other dentists — not just patients. He and his staff check the labels and calls suppliers. They even let me read the labels! Since my diagnosis, ...
  8. Why not take advice from a celiac disease foundation/non-profit? https://www.celiac.ca/cca-statement-nima-gluten-sensor/ https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-news/the-nima-sensor-a-portable-gluten-testing-device/ Me? I think it is better to ask questions and talk to restaurant manager or chef rather than ordering my food and trying to test...
  9. Hang in there! If it becomes too unbearable to continue to consume gluten, let your doctors know, but a firm diagnosis can be a very good thing. So many people go back to eating gluten because they have doubts.
  10. Well, listen to your doctors! I assume you had been gluten free or light prior to your endoscopy which visually showed damage. By making you wait four weeks more, the antibodies tests (blood tests) should concur with the biopsy report. Many things besides celiac disease can cause small intestinal damage. The blood test will solidify the root cause...
  11. I have to say that the Gluten Free Watchdog (aka the gluten-free Dietician) has said that gluten in lipstick is not a concern unless you are eating copious amounts of it and no woman has eaten pounds of lipstick. You would go through tons of sticks each year! https://www.glutenfreedietitian.com/gluten-in-cosmetics-results-of-testing-on-lipsticks-and...
  12. Still it is a positive and is worth some investigation. The algorithms say positive, not weak positive or high positive. Not all celiacs have high numbers. And there is no correlation (oddly enough) to the result and the severity of intestinal damage. Use the search box with the forum and you will see many members with a weak positive and yet they had...
  13. Stop worrying about makeup. The only thing that should or might concern you is lipstick or lip balm. Buy her Red Apple or Gabriel Lipstick which is certified gluten-free if that makes you feel better or just one without gluten. And kiss her without asking her to wipe off her lipsticks (that can impact a romantic moment!) No need to worry about anything...
  14. Food intolerances can be hard to distinguish from active celiac disease (or a gluten exposure). For me, a food intolerance will resolve within a day or so with abdominal pain, diarrhea, body aches, fatigue. A gluten exposure will last weeks or months. Digesting anything (even if gluten free) can be painful for a few weeks. It is why I am forced...
  15. I do not get it. You have a positive dual antigen. The result was 26 and the range was 0 to 19 (is my math off?) Did they go forward and order the TTG IgA and DGP IgA? Even so, you still had a positive on the DGP IgG. Your GI should probably order a genetic test to help rule out celiac disease. If you are getting another colonoscopy soon, why not get...

  17. Can you post the test results? (It is your right really to have them in your possession). Why? I test positive to only the DGP IgA test on the complete celiac panel. I have never had a positive TTG or EMA which is odd and this has happened repeatedly. However, an endoscopy (not colonoscopy) to obtain small intestinal biopsies revealed damage. I...
  18. I love my for many reasons. I do not have an oven in my RV. I can make a little meatloaf in it, cook rice, slow cook, cook dried beans or even make a small cheesecake. I use it outside on the patio on sweltering hot days to make both broth or cook chicken fast and keep my house cool. Oven-Roasted rosemary chicken tonight. Tomorrow I am making a...
  19. Cross reactivity is an old internet myth. I consume things like corn, dairy and yeast. I have healed per repeat intestinal biopsies. Now, some celiacs have additional food intolerances or allergies. I do. Mine happens to be garlic and onions. I used to be lactose intolerant (dairy) but that resolved on a gluten free diet. The villi grew back...
  20. If I recall, some previous members had issues with wheat grass. Maybe it was just cross contamination issues at the manufacturer’s facility. In any case, more worrisome is that you still have fatigue and are not well. After two years on the gluten free diet, you should be healed. You should Abe able to absorb most of your nutrients from real food, ...
  21. Crisco contains trans fats. Why use it? Better off with butter if you are using it to bake. Butter is real food. My grandmother used butter long before Crisco was invented which was a cheap alternative and made baked goods last forever (think Twinkies,?). Crisco is a kin to axle grease. But that is my personal opinion.
  22. You are grieving. This is normal. Over time, it becomes easier. Feel free to vent anytime on this forum, as we have all been in your shoes! I am sure you are thankful that you do not have an immediate life-threatening illness, like cancer. I am sure you are thankful that at least you can treat your illness with food instead of medicines. How...
  23. Congratulations on getting your DH under control! It was probably hard work (I trialed the Fasano diet for a few months too.) I use Kirkland brand whole black pepper from Costco. I have been using it for years. I do not have DH, but I know that I have healed from celiac disease (not actively flaring) based on repeat intestinal biopsies if that helps...
  24. We plan our vacations around dedicated gluten-free restaurants!
  25. How about playing it safe until you feel well? I can not tolerate spicy foods even after having healed from celiac disease. I just make plain tacos (no seasoning in the meat other than salt and black pepper). I add avocado, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. My family adds taco or hot sauce to spice up their tacos. Boring....very gringo, but I feel...
