Gluten-Free Make Up?
cyclinglady replied to KarenB1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nah, I never worry about makeup. Just lipstick, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, and hand lotion. Anything that you might swallow in large amounts. So buy that mascara or Foundation. Even gluten-free lipstick is questionable, in that we really do not eat pounds of lipstick like the fashion magazines suggest. But I err of the side of safety. Besides... -
Feeling Worse
cyclinglady replied to elf41980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since you are still new to the diet and healing, being low on vitamins and minerals seems like the most likely culprit for your leg pain. But I am not a doctor. Allergy testing? Not very accurate. You can google. What made your doctor test for celiac disease? -
Feeling Worse

Red wine? It is possible you could react to tannins found in red wine, but I would not worry about gluten. Wine might not be good on a damaged gut. It is probably not on the Fasano diet food list for this reason. Give your liver a break. Maybe abstain until you are feeling better? I also autoimmune gastritis. If it is flaring, I do not drink... -
No question on celiac.com is goofy! Yes, in a covered dish, your food should be very safe! I would worry about microwaves. Seems like more stuff explodes in them coating the walls. Some people are not big into cleaning their microwaves. Keep stuff covered! Yuck! Enjoy your meal and your Friends!

Feeling Worse
cyclinglady replied to elf41980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know for sure you have celiac disease. That is the first thing you should address. Make sure you are really gluten free. It is why most of us recommend minimally processed foods (fruit, fresh veggies, rice, meat, fish, nuts, etc.). If you buy gluten free packaged foods, look for them to be labeled. Take a look at the Fasano diet which was developed... -
Feeling Worse
cyclinglady replied to elf41980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Everything that Ennis said. You also need time. Remember you have an autoimmune disease that only happens to be triggered by gluten. Gluten exposures set off an autoimmune response (like MS or lupus) that can go on for days, week or months. Everyone is different. Most celiacs report feeling well after a year. Hang in there! -
Understanding test results
cyclinglady replied to Golden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To answer your question, yes. Asymptomatic celiacs can have small intestinal damage. In your case, maybe your damage was not caught (or was just starting). The small intestine when stretched out is bigger than a tennis court. Easy to miss damage. You need to get the pathologist’s report. How many samples were submitted to the lab and from what l... -
Chance of false positive?
cyclinglady replied to Phosis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would be shocked if your biopsies do not show damage. Not with a mother with celiac and an elevated TTG. Not sure of the lab range. If it is slightly above the normal range, an elevated TTG could be attributed to another illness like Crohn’s. My niece had celiac disease firmly out (full blood panel: TTG, DGP, EMA) and biopsies. Still having issues, ... -
Easy Gluten-Free Holiday Lemon Bars

I am sure you both must must be angry that she went undiagnosed for so long. Just trying to manage her diabetes is already super challenging and to add malabsorption into the mix makes it even harder as well as feeling awful all the time. It is great that you are there to support her. Take care.- 4 comments

cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Travel
Next time try shelf-stable yogurt by GoGoSqueez. It is only 3 oz. and meets TSA standards. It can be found at big grocery or big box stores. I also take a collapsible cooler. Pick up food while traveling and big lots of freezer quart-sized bags that I fill with ice. i dump the ice while going through TSA and the. Ask a restaurant to refill my ice bags... -
Easy Gluten-Free Holiday Lemon Bars
cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Dessert Recipes: Pastries, Cakes, Cookies (Gluten-Free)
If your child is now an adult and is coming home for a visit, I suggest that you purchased certified gluten-free items for her to eat and set them aside in your pantry away from other gluten-containing foods. Ask her is she has specific needs as she might have other food intolerances. Consider investing in toaster bags, parchment paper (used as a barrier...- 4 comments

Chance of false positive?
cyclinglady replied to Phosis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your GI used an older scope, your small intestine might look just fine (like mine did). But the proof is in the biopsies. There is a chance that damage areas could be missed as Ennis suggested. I think your GI is most likely diagnosing you a bit early with a family history and a positive TTG. But for those who are reading this response, you should... -
Welcome! While getting a celiac disease can be a relief, it can also be overwhelming. You are not alone. Did your doctor run an Immunoglobulin A (IgA) or any other Immunoglobulin tests when you were getting tested? About 10% of celiacs have immune deficiency issues. This could account for your catching tons of colds, etc. You are also probably...

Read the labels on OTC drugs and supplements just lik you would with food. Work with your pharmacist and contact the manufacturer for prescription drugs. You can also check the inactive ingredients here, but best to verify with either the drug package insert or the manufacturer because 8 am not sure how often the website is updated: https://pillbox...

Wheat fiber dishware??
cyclinglady replied to madameflan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have a receipt, take them back. If you don’t, then donate them. You are worry8ng now and you are going to worry when you use them. Sometimes piece of mind is worth more than $1.00. Yep, a dollar! That is what I would do. My brain has been trained to avoid wheat/gluten, so I do. It just makes it easier for me. I am not a risk taker. -
family members tested for celiac ?
cyclinglady replied to PersianCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just four of my family members have been tested. All negative. Except two of them (and the most suspect), were given only the TTG test and not the entire panel. I test positive to only the DGP IgA (many repeated tests). I pushed hard for the entire panel for my kid because of the way I tested. My niece’s mother also pushed hard for the complete panel t... -
Forbidden Gluten Food List (Unsafe Ingredients)
cyclinglady commented on Scott Adams's article in Safe & Unsafe Foods & Ingredients
Yeast extract may not be gluten free unless it states gluten free. It is often made from barley. https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/yeast/ Not sure about the other yeast.- 78 comments

Lab results question
cyclinglady replied to LindsRF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
His Immunoglobulin A might be low (no lab ranges provided) but from what I know, it is plenty to insure that any IgA celiac test (EMA, DGP, or TTG) should in theory work. The Immunoglobulin A test, when used for celiac disease testing, is just a control test. It would have to be close to zero for the celiac IgA tests to be questioned (See link below).... -
Hi! It is nice to see that you are doing research. You are correct. Your tests were IgE based. It looks for IgE antibodies that go into attack mode when exposed to things like peanuts, ragweed, cats, bee sting and yes, even wheat. An IgE response would include: itchy eyes, hives, sneezing, asthma, vomiting, abdominal pain, swelling or even anaphylaxis...

Try Pillbox. It is a government site. https://pillbox.nlm.nih.gov/pillimage/search.php I recall there being issues with acetaminophen that was in gel capsule form. But your drug looks to contain gelatin from animals, not plants which is how this drug is labeled. It sounds like it is a hard tablet. Gelatin is an issue for religions that avoid...

You could very well have celiac disease, or you might not. But the amazing thing is that you felt better while on a gluten free diet. Only you can decide if obtaining a celiac disease diagnosis is right for you. There is a diet called the Autoimmune Paleo Diet which is actually grain free, thus, gluten free. It is a strict diet initially that helps...

I think you need to research celiac disease a bit more. For example, there is no allergy (IgE immunological reaction) to gluten, but there is to wheat. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder like MS or lupus. Consuming gluten from wheat, barley and rye triggers antibodies. It is possible to have both celiac disease and a wheat allergy. Allergy...

I can not help with the genetic testing as I was never tested and have not really researched it enough to comment. But members have reported having different genes and having celiac disease. While the newer scopes have higher magnification, the older scopes did not. Based on my last endoscopy, you could see the villi (the first one showed no visual...

Blood results
cyclinglady replied to nataliet24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The celiac disease blood tests were developed to help diagnose celiac disease and not really to be used to determine dietary compliance. But it is the only non-evasive “tool-in-the-toolbox”, so doctors use them. My DGP IgA was very elevated after a tooth infection, flu, gluten exposure. My symptoms (some new) did not improve. Finally, I had a rep...
