  1. I had some bad congestion for a long time. It was always blamed by my allergies. Years later, it turned into a tooth infection (facial swelling) from an old root canal that did not show up until the infection was severe. No pain. Once I healed from the tooth infection, all that sinus congestion went away. While celiacs can be lactose intolerant...
  2. My newer larger crockpot is oval and the lid does not even fit properly. I did not bother to take this pot back for an exchange again...., I figure it is a design flaw. So, to help seal it, I add a piece of foil down on top of the crockpot. Now my lid always says clean! I still have my early 1980’s smaller crockpot that works like a champ! ...
  3. Welcome! Restless Leg Syndrome is common among celiacs. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19731029 Researchers suspect vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Even though you are probably following a gluten free diet, chances are you are still getting gluten exposures (possibly hidden) if you are newly diagnosed. It can take up to a year...
  4. Here is information about a gluten challenge: https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/what-is-a-gluten-challenge/
  5. Consider just taking the vitamins you know you are deficient in (B-12 and vitamin D). That way you can have fewer ingredients to worry about. I suggest that the B-12 be sublingual (dissolves under the tongue). Be sure it is methylated too. Ask your pharmacist for help in selecting a gluten free version or the right D or B-12. In the meantime, take...
  6. Well, you have a celiac gene. So does about 35% of the population, but only a few actually have celiac disease. As of now, there is no test for celiac disease (blood or biopsies) that allows you to be on a gluten free diet. You would have to do a gluten challenge. Sorry. Do you have the results of your old blood test? Not all people have...
  7. It takes up to a year to heal from celiac disease as the learning curve for the gluten free diet is steep and other parts of the body, besides the small intestine, may be damaged. Eye issues are common with autoimmune. You might consider giving yourself more time to heal. If not, see an ophthalmologist who knows about autoimmune issues. When I was...
  8. Wow! I did not know that. I let mine rest, but less than an hour.
  9. Rest it for two or three hours? Is that safe? Or do you keep it at 160 for that duration?
  10. You might have an allergy to wheat, but not to gluten (never heard of a gluten allergy). Celiac disease can cause other immune responses like IgE or Mast Cell Activation Syndrome to go crazy. I get facial swelling, along with allergy symptoms (like vomiting, fainting, hives), when I get an insect bite or from many medications (like NSAIDS).
  11. No. You can use the lotion. Gluten must be ingested for a celiac reaction. That said, I buy lotion without wheat or oats. I am not going to eat it on purpose, but what if I forget to wash my hands after applying it and then digging into a bag of chips? I make sure my lotion, lipstick or balm, sunscreen and shampoo are gluten free. Odds are that...
  12. Get the celiac disease antibodies testing. Insurance should cover that. About 35% of the population carries the commonly known genes that could develop into celiac disease (like 1%). Doctors order the gene test to only exclude a celiac disease diagnosis. It is not the first set of tests to be ordered. https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening...
  13. Thanks for sharing! Like you, I consider myself to be super sensitive. But then I have more than one autoimmune disorder. When I am exposed to gluten, it triggers more than a celiac disease flare up, but my Hashimoto’s and Autoimmune Gastritis (which was found during a repeat endoscopy that revealed a healed small intestine) too. I used to drive m...
  14. Starting my Thanksgiving prep by preparing easy meals to consume while I am cooking for the big day. Made some chicken rice soup this afternoon. Have some pumpkin cranberry bread in the oven now. I do not adore pumpkin pie, so instead making a pumpkin cream cheese roll cake. Eating up leftover ribs and baked beans for tonight. Tomorrow morning...
  15. Hi Wayne! I normally do not scan the Chat section of the forum. Sorry for the delay. I hope you have recovered from your cold. Maybe you were able to fight off the normal full-blown symptoms. Going gluten free should not give you a cold. You might have been experiencing gluten withdrawals which is common. Get that blood work improved...
  16. I am sorry your post was missed! I am hoping that your wife recovered. A gluten exposure for me can last for months by triggering my other autoimmune disorders.
  17. I am sorry that missed this post. Did you find out of this product was gluten free?
  18. Welcome! DH is awful and to have a wheat allergy on top of that too! Because of your wheat allergy, you must be careful about applying topical products. A DH reaction requires the consumption of gluten foods, right? As a celiac, I know I am careful with shampoos, hand lotion, and lipstick to prevent accidental ingestion of gluten.
  19. Wow! I missed this. I am sorry that this happened to you. I like the idea of putting food coloring in your food.
  20. It is worth testing, if you are having issues that you think might be due to celiac disease. That is because not all celiac genes have been identified. We have members who have biopsied-confirmed with blood tests and have celiac diseas, yet they have different genes. You should not rely on a 23 and Me Test for a health diagnosis, but you probably...
  21. I did not read this full study, but unless the children were placed room and monitored by study staff 24 hours a day, there is no way they can determine whether or not the children were actually gluten free. Dietary studies, even if randomized, are notorious for collected false information because participants choose not to report accurately. I just...
  22. Please ask your doctor for follow-up vitamin and mineral deficiency testing. Take a good look at the previous posts. Most newly diagnosed celiacs are deficient due to small intestinal damage where most nutrients are absorbed.
  23. It only takes one positive for him to be referred to a GI. Consider talking to the GI first before you decide to have him go gluten free. The antibodies tests are not perfect and biopsies are still the gold standard in diagnosing celiac disease. Still. Celiacs can have concurrent illnesses as well. It can be valuable to have a benchmark. A firm...
  24. That is amazing! I am sure your post is bound to help others who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. ?
  25. I am riding the wave now! Health is pretty darn good. But I know that the wave will die down and I will fall off. I am “leashed” to my Gluten free board, so I am fairly safe. There are plenty of “sharks” out there and other “creatures” waiting to get me. Luckily, I am physically strong, have some common sense, and have enough skills to ride the wave. ...
