Breyers Rocky Road
cyclinglady replied to lou37's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Read the product label over the website. Breyer’s list a gluten free chocolate chip, but in my area, the chocolate chip does not have the gluten-free label. I did find it on the East Coast this past summer. So, it depends on where the Breyer’s ice cream is being manufactured. We just buy Breyer’s that has the green gluten-free label on the side of th... -
Hummm....I just downed 2 quarts of Strauss Organic Eggnog over the last three days. It is not marked gluten free on the carton. It is the best eggnog. No fillers. It was released earlier this month and I tried to resisit buying it. I adore it! It is something I really look forward to! And I do not share it. I know I previously shared this but I...

Breyers Rocky Road

No. If the green “gluten free” label is not on the side of the carton, it is not guaranteed to be under 20ppm. Breyers makes a whole line of gluten free ice cream in a dedicated facility (no line sharing). Choose another flavor or get plain chocolate, add some marshmallows and almonds. I love mint chip! -
I know that those members who have DH report that they must be super strict. You can browse through the DH section of the forum for confirmation. The AIP diet does sound promising. Scripps in San Diego conducted a tiny, tiny study with Inflammatory Bowel Disease IBD patients. They achieved a 78% remission in just a few weeks. That is pretty amazing...

It's in everything
cyclinglady replied to Ilivewithittoo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
@kareng I am impressed that you tackled tiling! ?? Here I am feeling good that I managed to find a dryer part and order it online! -
While I do have DH, I can empathize. I get autoimmune hives. All my autoimmune issues seem to stem or are made worse when my celiac disease is flaring. Please consider removing oats from your diet, even purity grown oats, for six months. Now, that oats have been deemed safe for celiacs, many processed gluten-free foods are adding oats to their products...

Will this affect my results?
cyclinglady replied to Karmst16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you will be fine if it is just a week. Most ER doctors do not have the authority to order celiac disease tests. Seeing your own family doctor is best. Get back on gluten! Eat a donut for me. If you can (insurance, other restrictions), ask for the complete panel. -
I am glad she is doing better. Just know that if she gets tested for celiac disease, her results will most likely be negative since she is on a gluten free diet. In theory, a celiac can heal in as little as two weeks. Usually this does not happen, but it can. Why get a firm diagnosis? She will need to be accommodated for school. She will need...

Abnormal bloods
cyclinglady replied to Maggyanne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you are on track to getting a celiac disease diagnosis. Let me assure you that if these two odd blood tests results are due to celiac disease, you can expect those results to normalize once you are gluten free and healed. It will take time though because the diet has a steep learning curve and other organs can be affected. Celiac disease... -
Abnormal bloods
cyclinglady replied to Maggyanne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sure. My MCV was....is really low. I have an anemia called Thalassemia which has tiny red blood cells. But tiny red blood cells can also indicate iron-deficiency anemia which is common with celiac disease due to malabsorption. You can be like me and have both. It is one reason celiac disease was overlooked in my case. Doctors just assumed I was anemic... -
Blisters
cyclinglady replied to Toska503's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, your blisters could be a symptom of celiac disease. There are over 200 symptoms of celiac disease that often overlap with other illnesses. They could also be any of 60 other blistering skin disorders. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis because you can not rely on symptoms to diagnose celiac disease. -

Learn more about DH. Look at the photos of DH on the internet. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/related-conditions/dermatitis-herpetiformis/ Itching is insanely severe for those with DH. The kind of itch that keeps you awake. You scratch until you bleed and scar. You really want to take medical advice from a total stranger... -
Blisters
cyclinglady replied to Toska503's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can not diagnose celiac disease or dermatitis herpetiformis based on symptoms. You would need a skin biopsy or get a celiac disease blood panel. Both look for antibodies since celiac disease is autoimmune. If you ask for testing, make sure you do not go gluten free. No gluten = no antibodies. You did not mention unbearable horrible itching... -
Eating out is risky and for all the reasons Ennis gave you. You have to trust the restaurant staff and that starts with speaking up. You just can not order a triple protein style. You have to actually tell them you have a gluten allergy (In-N-Out terminology and it used to be wheat). Then you have to watch them make your burger. Like on the back/separate...

American Airlines Gluten-Free Meals- Bad Experiences?
cyclinglady replied to MarzieK's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Well....you are not required to go on an airplane. So, I think legally you are not going to go far. I travel and I always bring my own food. All airline food is awful and I can not imagine that their food service can safely prepare food. I have tried to order gluten-free on international trips, but there is always a mess up. So, do not count on... -
Being Celiac and Type 2 Diabetes
cyclinglady replied to apoetasksthequestions's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have celiac disease and have Type 2 diabetes. At first, my doctor and I were concerned that I might have Type 1 diabetes which is called LADA. It can take up to five years to really kick in. But we are pretty sure I am a Type 2 (insulin resistance) even though I am thin and in shape (thanks again, genetics!). Hopefully, your doctor is not assuming... -
Looking for input
cyclinglady replied to Mesa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, normal IgA, so the celiac-related “IgA” tests should be valid. But....not always for reasons I mentioned previously. -
Fat Malabsorption?
cyclinglady replied to BarryC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good catch. I guess I forgot about gallbladder since I do not have one anymore! ? -
If you are considering celiac disease antibodies testing, know that your daughter has to be consuming gluten daily (1 to 2 slices of bread or equivalent) for 8 to 12 weeks. It sounds like she might have been gluten light. Like my kid who lives in a gluten free house. I had her tested twice. Each time I made sure she got a daily gluten fix. Even if she...

Fat Malabsorption?
cyclinglady replied to BarryC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe. If your gut has not healed from celiac damage, you might not be producing enough enzymes to digest your food. You might consider digestive enzymes. Did you work your way into the Keto diet? It is probably best if you gradually reduce carbs over the course of a few weeks. Start with a lower carb, higher fat diet, but slowly. Any drastic... -
I am sorry that your daughter is so ill. The gluten free diet maybe worth trying. I would let your doctor know because many doctors will give a celiac disease diagnosis on the basis of improvement while on the diet. Later, if a firm diagnosis is needed, you can do a gluten challenge (or do it now if youfind a celiac savvy GI who will guide you and supports...

I would get a copy of the pathologist’s report from the diagnosing doctor (it is a good idea to keep all your medical records, including lab results). If the pathologist stated that the skin biopsy revealed DH (IgA antibodies), then your husband’s diagnosis would be firm. No need to see a GI. I do not have DH, but I can tell you that I had no GI ...

Do your your doctors have any studies to indicate that DH is not affiliated with celiac disease? I cannot find anything except in old journals which are long outdated. All leading celiac disease/DH research centers and organizations claim that DH is celiac disease. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/related-conditions/dermatitis-herpetiformis...

Many members report withdrawal symptoms. It is not uncommon to feel worse. Remember, you are learning the gluten-free diet which has a steep learning curve. Mistakes will be made and you will have setbacks. But unlike an allergy, celiac disease is autoimmune. That means a gluten exposure triggers an autoimmune flare-up which can last for weeks or months...
