Understanding labels - gluten free cooking
cyclinglady replied to Jess27489's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What a nice friend. Please continue to research. Cross contamination is a big problem. Cooking in a kitchen that has gluten requires some care. Pots and pans should be very clean and not scratched. No wooden spoons or scratched plastic. No sharing of toasters or colanders. Anything gluten can get trapped (like little holes in a mixer). Use parchment... -
Welcome! I have not heard/read that a Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity could cause liptase to increase. I have heard that celiac disease can do that as can other autoimmune (AI) disorders. AI can be systemic. For example, celiac disease often causes elevated liver enzymes, rashes, neuropathies, joint pain, migraines, etc. Many issues beyond just damaging...

I am not sure. I have had dental impressions made, but my dentist is very much aware that I have celiac disease. I question him every single time I go in. He said that he has noticed that the amount of dental supplies that are gluten free are increasing. Always check. Ask to read labels at their office. Swollen and itchy lips sound more like an...

All bread machines have built-mixers (paddle), but you would not use a bread machine to mix up a cake or cookies. It is designed to knead dough. The gluten free setting most likely does not knead heavily and shortens the time by skipping a second knead and rise, which is needed for wheat bread. I had a bread machine 20 years ago or more. I found...

Since this is a new symptom, perhaps you should see a doctor. Not all things are due to celiac disease.

Are you asking about a setting on a bread machine? I can not imagine a gluten-free setting on a mixer.

I do not take any supplements that my doctor has not recommended. I would never personally take that Allimax. I have a garlic intolerance. That stuff would make me sick! I think you need to see your GI. He or she can rule out things like SIBO (you should have bacteria in your large intestine, but not your small). Maybe see a dietician who can help...

Anger, Quick Temper, Depression

Wow! Great news. Celiac disease or Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity can really impact your mental health, that is for sure. -
Possible Celiac
cyclinglady replied to Steve3005's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Talk with your doctors, but all celiac disease testing does require you to be on gluten. Since you have only been off for two weeks (and odds are you have still consumed gluten unknowingly since the diet has a steep learning curve), you can still get tested. I am not a doctor, but I would go for it. I would also insist or even pay for the full celiac panel... -
Am I sensitive to gluten or not?
cyclinglady replied to Arbre's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Best to get tested for celiac disease first if you think that is your issue. I gave you the links above. It is a simple blood test. If negative and your doctor has ruled out celiac disease, you may be diagnosed with Non-Celiac Disease Gluten Sensitivity. If gluten is not your problem, you can keep a food journal. Allergy or food intolerance testing... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Since it is practically 100 degrees here, I am going to make left over pot roast sandwiches with a sour cream and dill cucumber salad. Will summer ever end? ? -
The Gluten Contamination Study We've Been Waiting For
cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Not to be rude, but have you had a repeat biopsy to back up your claim? It is the only way to know that you have healed or are in remission from celiac disease. Symptoms alone are not enough. If you have had repeat biopsies, then congratulations! Consider yourself lucky that you are not that sensitive.- 70 comments

Have your doctors considered a biologic medication? https://www.goodrx.com/blog/biologics-biological-drugs-examples/ My niece is on Remicade for her Crohn’s and has had success.

It sounds like you have been experiencing improvement on the gluten-free diet. Neurological damage can take the longest to repair or dissipate if it is celiac disease related. I am talking like 2 to 5 years based on member input. Your symptoms are so much like my friend who has fibromyalgia. She is considering the Autoimmune Paleo Diet (also gluten...

Anger, Quick Temper, Depression
cyclinglady replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please consider getting tested for celiac disease before trying the gluten-free diet. The blood tests are listed above. It can be so hard to do a gluten challenge once you have gone gluten free. Plus, with a diagnosis, you can get better family and medical support. I wish you well. -
Surmounting Social Situations – Traveling Versus Staying Home
cyclinglady commented on Jean Duane PhD's article in Autumn 2019 Issue
Traveling with celiac disease can be done with planning. My family chooses our road trips based on finding dedicated gluten-free restaurants beside the usual tourist or hobby attractions. If we are unable to find a suitable restaurant (read celiac reviewers on Find Me gluten-free app), we picnic or tailgate. Yes, we haul a “5 day” cooler and a kitchen bin...- 22 comments

The Gluten Contamination Study We've Been Waiting For

Karen, you are an amazing daughter. I also have the same concerns. If I had the expertise, I would open a dedicated retirement home in a warm place like Arizona. My girlfriend has her Mom live with her (she does not have celiac disease) but she got her mother to join the city’s Senior Center. Her Mom resisted, but now she insists on going! She has m...- 70 comments

Am I sensitive to gluten or not?
cyclinglady replied to Arbre's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here are the blood tests: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/ Like Scott said, you would have to consume gluten (like 1 to 2 slices a day of bread) daily for 6 to 12 weeks (talk to your doctor) before taking the blood test. A keto diet is usually grain free or grain reduced. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/the-gluten... -

The Gluten Free Watchdog relies on subscriptions/donations like the publication Consumer Reports, unlike Celiac.com which relies on advertising dollars from corporations. I think that is significantly different. Read Tricia Thompson’s bio to determine her legitimacy. Her contributions to the celiac community have been great. https://www.glutenfreedietitian.c...- 70 comments

Chicago is not far. Definitely worth pursuing. Before I had that repeat endoscopy, I had a gluten exposure almost a year prior. I have no idea what I consumed, but I suspect it was the antibiotics. I took three rounds for a bad tooth infection (old root canal gone bad), then got the flu and then a cold all within a six week period. I suffered for...

Wow! Your story is so common, unfortunately. ? Once you have an autoimmune disorder, you can develop additional autoimmune disorders. Your doctors should be screening you for other issues. A repeat endoscopy/biopsies done five years after my celiac disease diagnosis revealed a healed small intestine even though my DGP IgA test was still very...

Suffering and Need Support
cyclinglady replied to glcrowell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry that you are unwell. You can ask your doctor to run a celiac disease blood test panel. It checks for elevated antibodies. The university healthcare center should be able to order your lab tests. https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening-and-diagnosis/screening/ Small intestinal biopsies are obtained through an endoscopy... -
I am so sorry that you are so ill. Do not give up! It is so easy to feel so down when you feel awful. I talked about feeling good in a thread yesterday. I jinxed it. Kid came home for a visit and I overate at dinner. I even ate mashed potatoes! It is not a glutening but my stomach acting up. That dinner stayed in my stomach most of the night. Nausea...
