If the neurologist does not find anything, please consider being extremely strict on the gluten free diet until you see improvement. Just whole, single ingredient, foods. Consider even an Autoimmune Paleo diet which is grain free (and does not include foods like nightshades). Research is your best defense. I am glad you are keeping a food journal...

Reaction To Buckwheat?
cyclinglady replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Tep. Chia seeds are naturally gluten free as is buckwheat. It is probably best to buy certified gluten free versions that have not been cross contaminated. But some people are just plain intolerant to those foods. I personally just avoid grains. I save them for treats and do not used them on a daily basis. This helps control, my blood sugar... -
Hang in there Ennis! I am restricted to a limited number of seasonings too. Cooking without onion, peppers, or garlic is a pain! Using more fresh herbs I grow. Thankfully, I can tolerate black pepper. Let us know if the Pepto works.

Just follow your family biscuit recipe and use a gluten-free blend like Pamela’s or King Arthur (there are plenty of gluten-free flours to choose from). Use a bit less flour when measuring and you can always add more in later if the dough is too sticky. Use milk/buttermilk if does not bother you. I prefer butter or lard over shortening. Roll and cut o...

Maybe you should listen to your body. It seems to like meat, veggies, fruit and a little dairy. Boring? Maybe. But feeling good trumps feeling bad on a traditional American diet. My diet is about as restrictive as yours. But I can tell you that I am feeling really good. No gluten exposures for almost two years. My other autoimmune disorders...

Elimination diet
cyclinglady replied to Svelte's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It certainly sounds like you have celiac disease with such a high TTG result. What I was trying to convey is that not all things are due to celiac disease. About five years after my diagnosis, I had stomach pain that would not resolve. How was I getting gluten into my diet (my DGP IgA was off the charts at the time)? I trialed the Fasano diet and I knew... -
I imagine that gluten in a person who has celiac disease can cause hormonal disruption. My undiagnosed celiac disease made going through menopause awful (30 day periods, thyroid swings, sheer craziness). But I encourage you to get tested for celiac disease before going gluten free. Sure, you can just go gluten free, but a diagnosis can help you ...

Elimination diet
cyclinglady replied to Svelte's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Were you diagnosed with celiac disease? I ask because your GI would have checked and biopsied your stomach as well as your small intestine. GFinDC is right that prolonged use of aspirin and ibuprofen can cause gastric and intestinal damage. I am not familiar with the other natural supplement you are taking, but it should be checked to insure it is gluten... -
Brach’s Candy Corn
cyclinglady replied to Musicperson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is good news! -
It is safe for celiacs. I use that very brand. Transitioning to a higher fat diet could be an issue for anyone. Or you could have an intolerance to avocados. Are you okay with avocados? I use avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, and lard but I have been on a higher fat diet for years.

Brach’s Candy Corn
cyclinglady replied to Musicperson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it does not contain gluten ingredients but it might be manufactured in a facility that uses wheat (or used to). https://www.verywellfit.com/gluten-free-candy-list-562806 So, hopefully someone who has consumed them, can vouch for them. What does the packaging say? Products change all the time. Me? I am pretty strict and am not a risk... -
Elimination diet
cyclinglady replied to Svelte's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Consider making sure that you are really gluten free by trialing the “Fasano” diet for a month or so. Dr. Fasano is a leading celiac disease researcher and his team noticed that celiacs were being diagnosed with refractory celiac disease (not good) much too often. They found that a chunk of people were still getting gluten into their diets despite the... -
FSA submission documents
cyclinglady replied to king53214's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We considered it for a few minutes.......until we read though the IRS requirements and all the supporting documentation needed. ?. We are self-employed and managing our business is enough paperwork and tracking for us. In the end, we found that we consume mostly non-processed naturally gluten-free foods (meat, fruit, veggies). Getting subsidized for junk...- 1 reply

celiac?
cyclinglady replied to gabrielle03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are not crazy. Years ago, I had a GI tell me and my husband that I was a “high strung” woman and that my GI symptoms were all in my head. Looking back, I probably had celiac disease all my life (due to life-long iron-deficiency anemia) and a non-functioning gallbladder (0% per HIDA scan) that became infected. Do not let doctors or eve... -
My endoscopy that was done to diagnose my celiac disease revealed nothing. I received no photographs. My GI must have had an older scope. My biopsies (pathologist’s report) stated a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). Five years later, I had a repeat endoscopy. This time my new GI had a scope that did take photographs. The magnification w...

I want to add, that @elf41980, you are just four months into being gluten free. It takes time to heal. So frustrating, I know (as most of the form members can attest). My diagnosing GI told me my biopsy results and then said that I had lots of gluten-free options as he rattled off a few restaurants. It was obvious he never tried being gluten free. ...

Sorry, I do not know, but someone else might. Consider using the forum search box. Search for member Jebby. She is no longer active but she offers excellent advice. She has her own website which is not very active anymore either because she juggling a career and a large family. Her real name is Dr. Jessica Madden and she is a preemie doctor. She...

I suspect that I had a gluten exposure from three courses of antibiotics for a tooth infection even though I did everything to ensure it was gluten free (pharmacist, called manufacturer, etc.) of course, no proof. I hope you figure it out.

I am sorry that this happened to you. I have had some of my doctors discharge patients when did not comply with their medical advice. I have not heard that asking too many questions could cause a discharge. https://www.verywellhealth.com/can-my-doctor-fire-or-dismiss-me-as-a-patient-2615017 I hope you find another doctor soon.

35 Top Brands of Gluten-Free Cake Mix
cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
These Betty Crocker mixes are handy and readily available. Because they use only rice flour, the result is a grittier cake. -
1.5 year old blood test confusion
cyclinglady replied to JDownham's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay. No toddler input, but I can tell you that I tested positive to only the DGP IgA. My TTG IgA, TTG IgG, DGP IgG, and EMA IgA were all negative. I am not IgA deficient. My biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). I repeatedly test this way. My doctors do not know why. Some research indicates that only very young children... -
I received pictures, but my GI came into the recovery area and gave them to me, along with an explanation of what he saw and did. I did have to wait though for the pathologist to review the biopsies.

Depression after being Gluten Free
cyclinglady replied to kanucme2019's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just want to add, are you really gluten free? Have you verified all supplements and prescriptions? Do you ever eat out? Insuring that you are really gluten free can help you and your doctor determine the root cause of your depression. I wish you well.
