Hi Angie! I too am curious. I have reached out to this student via private message a while back but no response. My daughter is at another UC school. She does not have celiac disease, but she does have some of my intolerances involving onions, peppers, and garlic (we both have Acne Rosacea and these foods are a trigger this and they also cause...

Yes! A repeat biopsy/endoscopy for me revealed a completely healed small intestine. That was after five years of being gluten free. I have faithfully kept copies of all my medical records for the last 20 years or so. I also asked my diagnosing GI to give me a letter stating that I have celiac disease and must be gluten free. I keep a copy of this...

@LuluMurph Hey, your TTG score WAS high! Lab ranges vary across the country or world. You probably have been reading about results that are “off the charts” or over 100. Usually that bottom of the range is then 20.

Not sure how health provider will handle your endoscopy, but mine have all been good experiences. A repeat endoscopy some five years later revealed healthy intact villi in my case. Yes, you can heal! Many celiacs do not heal, but it is because they often get hidden gluten exposures despite their best efforts or they refuse to do the diet. My personal...

Hi! Celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disorder, often shares comparable symptoms with other autoimmune disorders or other illnesses. It is systemic and causes damage or symptoms beyond the small intestine. The only way to diagnose celiac disease is to get tested, but you have to remain on a gluten diet for testing to be accurate. https...

Confusing test results
cyclinglady replied to mBird99's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! You should seek a Gastroenterologist consult. It only takes ONE positive on the celiac panel to move forward. You have a very positive TTG! Why not the EMA? One theory could be that that particular test requires a lot of manual work (mistakes can be made). I test positive to only the DGP IgA and negative to the EMA and TTG, yet... -
Welcome! It took time for you to attack your small intestine and it will take time to heal. The gluten-free diet has a steep learning curve so expect a few setbacks. Although the gut can heal within weeks, the reality is that it takes months to even a year. I would not worry about Crohn’s. Just focus on healing fro celiac disease. Research i...

Go to the Gluten Free Watchdog’s website. She is like a mini Consumer Reports and checks all kinds of gluten free labeled products to insure they meet government standards. She is a strong advocate for celiacs (she has celiac disease and is a dietician) and works with the FDA. She has commented on this study. Her takeaway? Continue to follow the traditional g...

I think it is a matter of opinion. I spent years baking even my own hamburger buns (wheat flour). There are many commercially baked gluten free breads, but they are not the exactly the same as wheat/rye bread. Good, if you consume gluten. Extremely good if you have been gluten-free for a few months or years. I do purchase Canyon Bakehouse products...

Chronic Vertigo, Inflammation And Fatigue
cyclinglady replied to houseofdavid's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Is there anyway to get tested for celiac disease before going gluten free? A celiac or someone with a gluten sensitivity needs to be on a very strict gluten-free diet. Gluten can be hidden in so many foods. Once gluten free, it can be very difficult to go back on gluten to get a diagnosis. Learn more: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening... -
Ennis is right. DO NOT consume gluten-free bread until you “forget” what real bread tastes like. In the meantime, crackers are good, using corn tortillas to make tacos, or wrapping sandwiches or burgers with lettuce are good options while your memory of bread fades. Bake a few cupcakes or cookies. Those Krusteaz packaged cake mixes are pretty dar...

Insta Pot Mississippi Pot Roast
cyclinglady replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That looks so tasty. I will have to try it. I usually make my pot roast in a crockpot, but I do love my instant pot. So handy to be able to cook outside to avoid taxing the air conditioner (aka costing me more money!) or cook in our camper. Thanks! -
Uncle Ben's Ready Rice
cyclinglady replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I checked the Uncle Ben’s website and they recommend three products (the one you listed was not one of those three). My take? I would go with Uncle Ben’s advice. They might be concerned with cross contamination in the factory with the chicken flavoring. http://unclebens.ca/article/naturally-gluten-free-rice/ If this is your chicken rice, it... -
Not sure the FDA agrees with you. Looks like they are cracking down on false claims and are concerned about safety. This is just one company, but as a celiac, I would not consume DE. https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/earthworks-health-560772-06072019

What was the lab range for the Immunoglobulin A (IgA) test? If you are actually IgA deficient, your doctor can order IgG celiac test versions.

Why can’t you say something? This is your partner. My hubby was gluten-free 12 years before me. When my daughter and I wanted to indulge in gluten-filled foods, I made sure to always have the gluten-free equivalent on hand, or we ate gluten when we were away from home. All dinners were prepared gluten-free. The kid and I did consume sandwiches a...

1.5 year old blood test confusion
cyclinglady replied to JDownham's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello! Did they run the Immunoglobulin A (IgA) test? If he is IgA deficient (which is common in celiacs), he many not produce enough IgA to make the DGP IgA test work. -
I went seven weeks between my endoscopy and my blood test results. My own work schedule was the issue. Since my hubby had been gluten free for 12 years, I knew exactly what gluten-free really meant. At the time, I did not know that a having an only DGP IgA result was odd. My GI took it as a positive and to move forward. So, I took the time to bid a...

Here are some standard recommendations for follow-up care: “New celiacs should receive follow-up testing twice in the first year after their diagnosis. The first appointment should occur three to six months after the diagnosis, and the second should occur after 1 year on the gluten-free diet. After that, a celiac should receive follow-up testing on a...

Celiacs & Bladder Issues
cyclinglady replied to crl42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! The only way to find out if you have celiac disease is to get tested: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening-and-diagnosis/screening/ Make sure you continue to consume gluten until all testing is complete. Celiac disease is systemic and affects many different organ systems beyond the GI tract. I wish you well... -
Hi! I only had one positive on the celiac panel, the DGP IgA. My TTG and EMA tests were normal. My endoscopy/biopsies found some pretty severe damage. The result on your blood panel, does not necessarily correlate with intestinal damage. It is good that you are moving forward with the endoscopy. Keep eating gluten until you have had the endoscopy...
