  1. Celiac.com just published an article last month on this topic. The percentage of celiac with deficiencies vary depending on the mineral or vitamin. Read the cited study for details. Iron deficiency were around 80%, but not all. read
  2. Milk is not the only food source for calcium. Not all newly diagnosed celiacs are deficient. Look at studies and not just member comments on this forum. Most long term members have their own cause or agenda. For example, I push for the complete celiac panel since I test positive to only the DGP IgA. I would hate for others to continue to suffer...
  3. Ok! Great news! Like me, you were not deficient. Maybe you were, who knows? But you could become deficient (anyone could) if you start consuming junk food or have a lot of gluten exposures. So maintain your healthy diet, which I know you do.
  4. We are doing teleconference calls with our doctors. We did have to go into a lab for blood draws. If you think you might have celiac disease, ask for a simple blood test. Some labs even are walk-in if your doctor refuses to order it. You probably would have to pay cash though. But I think it is less than $100 for the screening TTG test. This...
  5. There are some commercially made “egg replacers” that are found online or at a health food store or you can use any of these items that might be in your pantry: https://www.thekitchn.com/best-egg-substitutes-baking-23003895 Are you allergic or have an intolerance to eggs? Often newly diagnosed celiacs can not eat an egg fried, but can have it in ...
  6. Hi! Welcome! You have made a dramatic dietary change. I bet you are In hyper alert, worrying about your gut. But you can relax. A gluten free diet does no harm. Maybe those sounds were there before or maybe not. Some newly diagnosed people go out and buy a lot of gluten free processed junk food like cookies, cakes, bread, etc. all...
  7. Negative results on all the tests. I would not put a lot of emphasis on the TTG IgG as it could be slightly raised due to your Hashimoto’s. What symptoms made you decide to get tested for celiac disease? Or did you test before going gluten free to help with your Hashimoto’s? Do you have other lab bio-markers that would suggest malabsorption? Like B-1...
  8. Maybe. Birds Eye used to do just plain veggies, but their product line has expanded dramatically to include all kinds of seasoned veggies and pasta. Ready-to-eat style meals. I do not buy even their plain veggies because I worry about cross contamination on shared the factory lines. Oddly, many store brands label their frozen veggies as gluten free...
  9. No, no gluten free Italian dressing mixes. Best to contact the manufacturer to see if they plan on developing a gluten free version.
  10. What does the ingredients list say? Per the Walmart site this contains wheat (located in the soy sauce listed. So, it is NOT gluten free.
  11. If you have celiac disease, you can not consume gluten (Italian and Ciabatta rolls) even though “they do not bother you”. Intestinal damage is still being done.
  12. I am confused. Did you not say in another post that you do not have any chewing teeth and that you are eating baby food pouches? That could be a reason why you are thin. Have you healed from celiac disease? When did you last get your antibodies tested? Maybe you need to get another endoscopy.
  13. Why are you eating baby food only? Surely you can eat soups, stews, veggies, that are well cooked and can be placed in a food processor or blender. That is how I fed my baby. Why three years to get clearance for dentures? Your teeth will move and can impact your ability to get dental implants. At a minimum, retainers are used.
  14. Thanks for letting me know that you had a repeat endoscopy. I am glad you have improved from your first endoscopy. Know that most members report taking a year or longer to heal completely. SIBO can be difficult to treat, but you already know that. I think the AIP diet and lowering your carb intake could be helpful. You should be screened for...
  15. I think that you should see your GI again. Maybe it is time to go aback in and take a look. If he or she does not agree, find another doctor. I would not accept a diagnosis from a nutritionist. Those IgG allergy tests are not very accurate per the American Allergist Association (Europe and Canada too). IgG is a memory immunoglobulin. It remembers...
  16. Maybe your daughter is like me. I never test positive to the TTG tests and I had a non-functioning gallbladder. How non-functioning (percentage)? What was her HIDA scan? I ask because I think if my celiac disease was diagnosed sooner, I might have been able to save my gallbladder. Mine was at 0% and was infected. But I suffered starting at age 16...
  17. Everyone can have a different antibodies response. It could mean more damage, but sometimes not.
  18. Your doctor can check you at six months. But it can take over a year for blood tests to normalize, sometimes two years. Doctors look for a downward trend.
  19. The listen to the other members. You might have an intolerance. Udi’s is convenient but it has lots of additives found in most processed foods. You could be reacting (not a celiac reaction) to any of those. I had a non-functioning gallbladder that became infected. It is my theory that undiagnosed celiac disease destroyed my gallbladder. I...
  20. Yeah, our life insurance is about to expire and we can not afford to extend it as we are old! Our kid will be done with her undergrad by then and she is on her own to live or get a Masters. That was the plan. Just enough so that we could stay home and regroup if one of us (or both) died, pay off the mortgage or help with college expenses. Even though...
  21. Who made that chicken Alfredo? Maybe it was not really gluten free or was exposed to gluten while being prepared.
  22. Wow! Thank you for sharing. Your post will surely bring comfort to another celiac. Glad you are back on your bike! 🚴‍♀️
  23. I am sorry that you are unwell. Rice and corn are fine for celiacs. They do not trigger an autoimmune reaction that damages the gut. However, you can have additional food intolerances and often corn is a culprit. I can consume corn, but when my gut was damaged, eating whole grain corn straight from the cob is too hard for me to digest. I do just fine...
  24. Welcome, Pat! You are right. Having an autoimmune disease can feel like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. You were undiagnosed for so long and have lots of collateral damage. It will take time even though doctors tell you that you should heal fast on a gluten free diet. But we know better! Congratulations! You have healed ...
