  1. I am confused. She had a celiac antibody blood panel? That would include an Immunoglobulin A (IgA) test that, if in the normal range (and your child’s result seems like it is based on national labs), would validate the celiac specific TTG, EMA and DGP IgA tests. An IgA test by itself, would just indicate possible Immunoglobulin issues like an IgA deficiency w...
  2. There is a difference between a lactose intolerance (lacking the enzymes to digest lactose milk sugar) vs. a milk allergy which is due to reacting to milk proteins. If you have a true milk allergy, you can not consume anything with milk.
  3. Can you find out if your trip insurance will cover the cost of the airfare? Consider going and traveling on your own? Get the airline to re-issue another ticket to another destination? If the travel company can not accommodate you safely, I would not go. Is it worth it traveling and being sick?
  4. The DGP tests are very specific. They are probably not false positives. I had plenty of damage, but the gluten free diet healed my small intestine. No sense worrying about other possible illnesses that could cause intestinal damage. Focus on one issue at a time. Right now, celiac disease seems like the most obvious diagnosis. It can be very hard...
  5. Wow! ? This is so inspiring! Just five cigarettes a day now! I am going to pass this on to family members who are trying cut down or stop smoking tobacco. Save some money too!
  6. Plain coffee is gluten free. It can be cross contaminated with gluten in a shop or if flavors are added. You must read the label and if in doubt, contact the manufacturer. If your small intestine is damaged from undiagnosed celiac disease, coffee may be bothering you. It is pretty acidic. It might be wise to give it up until you are feeling better...
  7. I am not disputing the helpfulness of celiac.com nor food sensitivities. I think we are just getting hung up on vocabulary.
  8. ? No worries! Chemicals are chemicals regardless of whether they are natural or not. Everyone needs to decide for themselves whether or not they want to use marijuana. I am not here to judge. I just picked a site that mentioned chemicals. Here is a site that is neither pro or con: https://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=0...
  9. Yes, that is true! Envelope glue does not contain gluten anymore! https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/does-envelope-adhesive-contain-gluten/ And chemicals in marijuana? Yes! Over 400 of them. https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/marijuana-medicine Please share any certification regarding gluten at dispensaries. I would...
  10. Read this about a girl who has celiac disease and was living in Kansas: https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/features/girl-pens-book-about-her-battle-with-celiac-disease/73-576605565 Welcome to the forum! ?
  11. I agree with your comment. Well said.
  12. My hubby was gluten free 12 years before my diagnosis. He went gluten-free per the advice of my allergist and his GP. The diet worked. He realizes that I get way more support from family, friends and medical but it is not enough for him to do a gluten challenge. We kind of like paying our bills by being able to work! ?. The bottom line is feeling good...
  13. Volunteering is a great way to meet people. Have fun in Dallas!
  14. We grilled yesterday burgers too. Wrapped them in lettuce. Yum! Today we are having pork ribs, baked beans and corn on the cob.
  15. You were lucky that you tested positive on the TTG and your result was very high. Not all celiacs test positive to the TTG or EMA. Also, the blood tests are pretty good, but not perfect. I had a very elevated DGP IgA and a Marsh Stage IIIB when I was diagnosed. Then five years later, my DGP IGA was elevated even higher, yet my intestinal biopsies were...
  16. You can not use out celiac disease yet. Some celiacs are seronegative and some (like me) never test positive to the TTG and EMA. But since you do not have health insurance, consider going gluten free for now. You can always do a challenge later and request the full panel which includes the DGP and get an endoscopy. Dairy could be causing you problems...
  17. So, your son was diagnosed with celiac disease in Savanna based on positive blood tests and intestinal biopsies via endoscopy? Or has he yet to be diagnosed? In any case, consider contacting the Children’s Hospital in Atlanta: https://www.choa.org/medical-services/gastroenterology You should be able to find a PED GI or at least get a recommendation. ...
  18. Celiac disease is like a chameleon, symptoms are always changing. Experts used to think that all celiacs were thin and malnourished, but they have come to find out that they can be overweight. The fact that you gained weight most likely due to inflammation and hormonal changes and then lost it while you were gluten free is okay. I would not worry about...
  19. Good to know! I am not against marijuana, but it should be used carefully. I am concerned about addiction in those who are predisposed (and this can include alcohol or even ice cream!). ?. I am also concerned about those Juul cigarettes which are not so safe per recent reports from our surgeon general. As I tell my kid “just use your noodle”. ...
  20. Yes, I got one yesterday. Cleared my history. Not sure if this worked.
  21. I live in very old house which which contains plaster. So, we are extra careful when it comes to any construction work around the house (it is also filled with lead and asbestos too which is okay if you do not mess with it or take precautions). I have been to Home Depot, Ace and Lowe’s and have purchased drywall materials/compounds. I have not seen a...
  22. If you are ready to throw in the towel in terms of seeking a firm diagnosis (at least for a while) and move forward, consider an Autoimmune Paleo Diet (AIP). This is a temporary diet that allows you to restart and identify food intolerances. It is gluten free, does not allow any grains in the beginning, nightshades, legumes, eggs, dairy etc. It basically...
  23. RMJ, an MD and he has not been tested! Wow! Maybe you should share this article. I get an elderly person not wanting to be tested. Some of my siblings have refused. The idea of giving up bread seems horrible to them. My kid has been tested twice. Full panel because of the easy I test (only DGP IgA positive). I had her retested because she...
  24. Have they ruled out other autoimmune issues like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis (you mentioned joint pain)? What about your thyroid? You can have autoimmune and still have normal labs usually ordered on a physical.
  25. Did you all see this article on first-degree relatives? Mayo found that 44% of first-degree relative had celiac disease even if asymptomatic. That is stunning! https://www.news-medical.net/news/20190822/Mayo-Clinic-Study-Calls-For-Screening-Of-Family-Members-Of-Celiac-Disease-Patients.aspx How many family members have you been able to convince...
