  1. This is a myth. Celiacs can use yeast in baked recipes like breads and pastries. https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/yeast/
  2. You can have more than one illness. First though, make sure you are getting follow-up care for celiac disease. Have your antibodies gone down? That is a good place to start. Look to your gluten-free diet. Some huge chunk of celiacs do not heal. Why? They make lots of mistakes on the diet (like eating out or mis-reading label). Consider the Fasano diet...
  3. I think you just need to wait for the biopsies. It is hard to be patient!
  4. Have you had follow up celiac disease testing? This can help determine if you are actually complying with the gluten free diet. Ask your GI for antibodies testing. Consider a repeat endoscopy (maybe you have something else besides celiac disease). Maybe you are not really gluten free? Do you eat out ever? Eat a lot of processed foods? Consider the...
  5. Many, many celiacs have other food intolerances. The most common one is lactose intolerance. Since food sensitivity tests are not very accurate, keeping a food journal can help identify food intolerances (which many or may not resolve with healing from celiac disease). https://www.beyondceliac.org/SiteData/docs/Food Sensi/97aba03fccee664a/Food Sensitivities...
  6. I agree that you should keep advocating for your daughter. Learn more: https://empoweredpatientcoalition.org/report-a-medical-event/report-a-hospital-or-facility/
  7. Consider buying a new waffle iron and converting your old waffle recipe by substituting with a good gluten free flour blend like Pamela’s or King Arthur that can be purchased from a supplier like Amazon. No recipe? This one works: https://amyinthekitchen.com/gluten-free-waffles/
  8. Celiac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease. The only known treatment is a strict gluten free diet for life. Celiac disease can go into remission (intestinal villi healing) but it will return if gluten is reintroduced to a celiac’s diet. Sus’s daughter might be feeling well by addressing Mast Cell Activation issues (along with a gluten free die...
  9. Hard to say without more information. It would be highly unlikely that going gluten free would cause you to skip periods as you are just cutting out three grains: wheat, barley and rye. Why did you go gluten free? Have you been tested for celiac disease? Untreated celiac disease has been known to cause fertility issues. It often takes up...
  10. Unless, you eat sunscreen or sweat so much that it drips into your mouth, you should not have to worry. I would buy this sunscreen. ? https://nationalceliac.org/celiac-disease-questions/using-gluten-free-skin-body-products-someone-celiac-disease/
  11. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that is not just confined to the small intestine causing malabsorption issues. It is systemic. That is why there are so many symptoms (like anxiety) attributed to it. Once you have had your endoscopy and the doctor has advised you to go gluten free, I bet your bone pain will resolve (I am not a doctor though)....
  12. I do not think there is anyway to determine how long you had celiac disease before a diagnosis. You can guess based on symptoms but remember than some celiacs are asymptomatic. The important thing is to recover from celiac disease by adhering to a strict gluten free diet. ?
  13. I just wanted to add that my hubby had surgery for a congenital issue. As a result he was in the cardiac ICU recovery ward. Even though he does not have high blood pressure or cholesterol, they treated him as a cardiac patient. We just went with the flow. Our main concern was insuring that his food was really and truly gluten free. We had several discussions...
  14. Wow! What a supportive mom/family. My house went gluten-free after my diagnosis (two against one gluten eater). Shared households can be done, but personally, having a safe place without thinking is so nice. Ennis has lots of tips. Research all that you can. Inhopeshe feels better soon!
  15. Celiac disease may be linked to gallbladder disease. I am sure your daughter was probably tested for gallstones (ultrasound or Ct scans). That is easy to catch. A diseased gallbladder can only be caught by a HIDA scan. My gallbladder was diseased. It would not release bile causing me nausea and vomiting. All this was before my celiac disease...
  16. This sounds like you are trying to diagnose her. When did she mention a butterfly rash? We should just share our personal knowledge about our personal illnesses and how we deal with those illnesses (like avoiding gluten). I do not recall you having lupus.
  17. Celiac.com has many many members —thousands. Has any member actually been diagnosed with Pellegra by a medical doctor? Has anyone after World War II been diagnosed in the U.S.? “Improved socioeconomic conditions, change in dietary practices, and food fortification with niacin were all responsible for the eradication of pellagra from the post–Wor...
  18. Me? I have allergies. I never take antacids. Never took them in the past. Nice theory, but no evidence. All drugs, even over the counter drugs can have risks.
  19. It can be gluten free as it is highly processed. It is used often in the European Union and not in the US which favors corn-based syrups. Learn more: https://heas.health.vic.gov.au/early-childhood-services/allergy-and-intolerance/coeliac-disease Like Ravenwoodglass, I tend to shy away from anything with wheat on a label even if it actually may...
  20. Celiacs do not react to bakers yeast found in gluten free breads, etc. They can react with brewers yeast (i.e. found in beer). https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/yeast/ https://celiac.org/about-the-foundation/featured-news/2016/01/gluten-free-101-need-know/
  21. Celiac disease is like a chameleon. Symptoms can change over time. When I was diagnosed, I did not have GI issues, (just anemia), yet I had severe small intestinal damage. Most likely, you can have that piece of cake or bread and not experience severe symptoms because your small intestine has healed. Your immune response may be delayed (slow to ramp...
  22. Since my diagnosis (have healed per a repeat endoscopy/biopsy), I have learned two things. One, some celiacs are more sensitive than others and two, not everything is due to celiac disease (many celiacs have concurrent illnesses that need to be addressed). I consider myself to be very sensitive as my reaction to gluten can last for months and can...
  23. I get it! So many of us have suffered for years. Some actually get a diagnosis and others do not. Going gluten free should help if you have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity. The most common issue for newbies is actually REALLY avoiding gluten. Cross contamination is a huge issue. Consider consuming only foods that you prepare yourself...
  24. Thanks for providing more information. Unfortunately, I can not help you with determining who gave you the genes that could develop into celiac disease. It does sound like you are still struggling. Consider the Fasano diet which basically is no processed foods or eating out until you see improvement. In theory, celiacs should heal pretty fast. Usually...
