Let’s see....me (diagnosed with celiac disease) or my dog (grain free because it helps protect me and my family)? Don’t get me wrong. I adored my lab who lived to be a ripe old age of 13-1/2 and died from cancer. She was a rescue dog who was abandoned. I think we all benefited from a grain free (gluten free) diet, plenty of exercise, a few table scrapes (mo...

Wow! I also have Thalassemia which masked my iron-deficiency anemia (“oh, your hemoglobin is low because of your Thalassemia” or “your periods must be heavy”. So, you can have more than one type of anemia. Your doctor should check your iron levels (how you process iron) and iron stores (ferritin). B-12 should be checked because despite your having tiny bl...

Barbara. Please discuss this with your doctors. When my husband went in for surgery, The hospital delivered in a tiny refrigerator in his room so that I could fill it with gluten-free foods that the nurses could give to him if I was away from the hospital. I also talked to the hospital pharmacist before the surgery and the dietitians. It turned out they...

Hi! Some celiacs, like ME, never get a positive on the TTG IgA, even when given repeatedly. I only test positive to the DGP IgA. I am biopsy-confirmed and have healed based on repeat biopsies. I also have an elevated IgA which is attributed to autoimmune disease or other rare things that I personally do not worry about. You could have been gluten...

Diamine oxidase deficiency in untreated celiac patients
cyclinglady replied to Iiv's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here is my two cents. If you have had a positive celiac antibodies test, you should be referred to a Gastroenterologist for further evaluation (biopsies via endoscopy). Untreated celiac disease will most likely not let your body resolve any allergy/DAO/Histamine/Mast Cell issues. Treating those without treating celiac disease is useless in my non-medical... -
Welcome! I am sorry you are struggling. There is no test for Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (or Intolerance). Doctors usually come to a NCGS diagnosis after firmly ruling out celiac disease (blood tests and intestinal biopsies). Blood tests alone are not enough since some celiacs (about 10%) have negative blood tests yet still have intestinal...

Possible celiac disease?
cyclinglady replied to Toyboy98's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! There are over 200 symptoms attributed to celiac disease. The only way to diagnose celiac disease is to get tested. It starts with a simple blood test. Be sure that you have been consuming gluten some 8 to 12 weeks before the blood test or your results probably will not be accurate. All testing requires you to be on a full gluten diet. Learn... -
Fritos are gluten free. I looked up Wolf’s mild chili with beans (Wolf is part of ConAgra which will identify all main allergens as identified by the FDA) and it contains oats. Maybe you are reacting to oats. Bet those oats were not grown in Dedicated fields. https://smartlabel.labelinsight.com/product/4383093/ingredients Consider making y...

You can always try the oil, but I think that solving the root cause of the rash is critical. If he has been gluten free for months and has seen some improvement, he may have DH. If he does have DH, then a really strict gluten-free diet is needed. He can try the Fasano diet which has has been suggested or stick with a few weeks of only meat, fish, poultry...

Gluten Free Question - Deep Fryer
cyclinglady replied to Rex's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey, since you guys are relatively close, I would recommend that you seek a consult with Ennis who not only has celiac disease, but prepares and sells gluten-free food for a living. If anyone knows how to keep safe it would be him. Although he does more Keto and Paleo, he can help you navigate the gluten-free supplier chain to suit your needs. I think... -
Diamine oxidase deficiency in untreated celiac patients
cyclinglady replied to Iiv's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good grief! The MTHFR Gene and the variants of it are NOT defects! The link you provided actually is trying to sell you supplements making it not very credible. About 40% of the population has the MTHFR and all those people are not defective, nor have health issues. This is just my opinion, but please try to provide evidence-based research. Here... -

Look at the “Find Me Gluten Free” app/website. Look for reviews written by celiacs. But buffets? Unless it is a dedicated 100% gluten free buffet, I would not not recommend a buffet if you have celiac disease. Cross contamination would be the reason.

If your TSH is elevated (assuming the 6.41 result was TSH), you are hypothyroid and should be treated. Better yet, you should find the root cause by asking your doctor to order a thyroid antibodies panel. Being hypo usually slows everything down, so I would guess that you are getting gluten into your diet. Since you live with flour in the house, consider...

Symbicort

This drug was on the gluten-free list. It should be gluten free still. http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/newlist.htm You can check pillbox too (gov website): https://pillbox.nlm.nih.gov/results.html?medicine_name=Budesonide&imprint=&shape=&color=&inactive_ingredients=&repackaged=false&page=1&items_per_page=20 and... -
I had my kid retested this summer as she is going off to college this fall. Because we have a gluten-free house and she is “gluten light”, I made sure that she had a full 12 weeks before she had the complete celiac panel (because I never have had a positive on the TTG tests which are mist often used for screening). If your test is negative, consider ask...

@Brenda H The availability of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables depends on where you live. In the US, berries, pit fruit, and melon are in season, so my family is gobbling them up. Often, I freeze fresh fruit for winter use. In the winter, we choose apples, pears and citrus. Bananas are available year round because they are imported. If you are willing...

The Psychological Impact of Celiac Disease
cyclinglady commented on Kit Kellison's article in Autumn 2010 Issue
Believe me, I get it. I deal with two other autoimmune disorders as well. My mom has FM and It is terrible. I fortunately do not DH, but if you go into the forum and look under the DH section, you will find some valuable tips. DH sufferers need to be super strict on their gluten-free diets based on member comments. Have you looked into the Autoimmune...- 15 comments

The Psychological Impact of Celiac Disease

You can travel. We do. We camp, travel in a Motorhome or car, cruise , fly or take the train and usually bring our food along. I have taken my ice chest into some pretty elegant hotels. We hit the grocery stores for food and search for restaurants on the internet that can safely accommodate us. We request microwaves and refrigerators in our hotel rooms...- 15 comments

Positive on 1 blood test
cyclinglady replied to stephanie86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lactose intolerance often resolves for many celiacs (like me) unless you are one of millions who are genetically lactose intolerant. You are correct in that he needs to consume gluten (equivalent to 2 slices of bread) per day up to the endoscopy. You can reduce or eliminate lactose for now as this could bring him some relief. I am so glad you are... -

Hi Alicia! While I am not single, I can empathize with you. Food is such a huge part of our culture. Is your school near a celiac research center or celiac group? This might give you some support. I realize that most who attend celiac meetings are either old or have little kids, but since celiac disease runs in families, I bet there are students...

Great chocolate chip cookie recipe
cyclinglady replied to TDZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yummy! Now, I swear by Pamela’s flour blend. The last time I used King Arthur’s it was a bit grainy from the rice. My daughter and I thought that maybe our particular batch was not millled well. Wow! I never have to adjust for elevation! Glad your cookies turned out so well.
