  1. Sorry for hijacking your post!
  2. But that article is about disability insurance which is different from health insurance. We have short term disability insurance because we are self-employed. I have not looked to see if they cover autoimmune disease, but I doubt it. Most companies offer some disability insurance for their employees. It is typically meant for short term disability (breaking...
  3. Well, since the National Healthcare Act went into effect, you do not have to pay extra for pre-existing conditions like celiac disease anymore. But who knows if that will be taken away? Before that went into effect, then yes, you were penalized by paying higher premiums or you were flat out denied, like me. I had one year that I went without seeing a doctor...
  4. Hi! It sounds like she is improving. Her TTG did come down from a 170 and she has stopped vomiting, right? (If I recall, was a Marsh Stage IIIA.) Doctors use the antibodies for follow up testing but they were not really designed to monitor progress or diet. They look for a downward trend. One year into the diet is not very long as damage can...
  5. If the report was posted by the pathologist, chances are your GI did not even get to see it or comment in your chart. Follow up with him in a few days. My diagnosing GI forgot to call me for a few weeks. I knew though I had celiac disease after binging before my endoscopy, so I went gluten free. Not that I would recommend doing that, but my hubby had...
  6. Sounds like your villi healed (celiac disease in remission), but you might have another problem. Best to talk to your doctor, ‘cause I am just a lady on the Internet!
  7. I do not recall ever seeing that topic. I drink lots of coffee, at least three cups a day. I do not have any issues, I suppose I am like my parents....maybe not, they like to order coffee after dinner and there is no way I would do that. 🤨
  8. We have used Tom’s of Maine for over 20 years. I like the taste. It is even labeled gluten free. It is at places like Target now. But I use those Crest samples my dentist gives me, though I save those for my travel bag and they are not labeled gluten free (you have to read the ingredients).
  9. Are you a dentist or oral surgeon? If yes, why is dentistry still separate from medical?
  10. I had an endoscopy two years ago. My GI could see the villi. Me too, because he gave me photos to celebrate my healing. Of course, he still submitted biopsies to confirm. This is not my photo, but it looked like this: https://www.sciencephoto.com/media/609573/view/small-intestine-endoscope-view Again, my new GI has the most current...
  11. Yes. Better to google a pudding recipe that calls for using a crockpot.
  12. Please share your thiamine results. Other than Knitty Kitty, no forum member has had this test done or found to be deficient. I also know that deficiencies co-exist in undiagnosed, non-compliant, and refractory celiacs. I am just curious.
  13. It sounds like gluten is the current source of your problems. What do you think is hard about the AIP diet? What will you miss? Maybe just modify it. Like I did with the Fasano diet. I never gave up coffee. I think that simply not getting exposed to gluten is your first priority (I know you know that). While you might have developed additional...
  14. It depends on the type of scopes. My endoscopy looked fine, but biopsies revealed some severe damage. The magnification on the scope used on my follow up was tremendous. You could visually see villi. But my GI still took biopsies. You have to wait for the pathologist’s report. And doing thing over the phone? Normal. My biopsy results were done o...
  15. They should run thyroid antibodies. I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis which is autoimmune like celiac disease. Not saying a gluten free diet helped my thyroid, but treating my celiac disease did (which is adhering to a gluten free diet). I think doctors should say, “You have autoimmune disease. Right now it is attacking your thyroid and small intestine. W...
  16. Thanks for the posting. It validates the idea that you should get tested for deficiencies before you supplement. If that is not possible, stick to real food and or follow the RDA as issued by the government.
  17. Even a kiss after consuming gluten can cause a celiac disease flare up. This little girl was the sickest celiac patient at Denver’s children’s hospital. She lived in Kansas, where she was surround by wheat fields and storage and distribution facilities. She was so sick! https://www.9news.com/article/features/girl-pens-book-about-her...
  18. Oh! I fracture two vertebrae dozing NOTHING two months after my celiac disease diagnosis — osteoporosis! A few bone scans show no improvement, but I have not had a break in seven years. Whew! And that red hair? Could you be Irish? That is me (well, part of me). Celiac disease is pretty prevalent among the Irish.
  19. I think you were directing this question to me. Yes, gastric biopsies revealed my AIG. Yes, B-12 levels are checked but are always above range and I do not supplement. Iron is checked as well. Must be all those eggs I eat!
  20. Excellent advice has been given. I just wanted you to know that I was diagnosed with celiac disease in my 50’s. It can develop at any age, though, looking back in my case, I had it for decades based in chronic anemia and other health issues I never really paid attention to. I also wanted to support your natural hair color. Mine is a lovely grey. I t...
  21. Have you had follow-up testing for celiac disease? Maybe your celiac disease is still active. I think you need to find out. What if you have developed something like Crohn’s? The last time I had a gluten exposure, I ended up with autoimmune gastritis diagnosis. No food intolerances, no celiac disease (biopsies showed all healed), no “all in my hea...
  22. I was in the same boat. I had to wait seven weeks for endoscopy due to work constraints. I made sure to eat all the gluten things that I loved. Packages of cookies (just a few and passed it on to my neighbors), literally a loaf of sourdough bread a day, etc. By my endoscopy date, I knew had celiac. My blood tests were correct. I was done with gluten...
  23. I do not have DH, but I did have the eczema that you described prior to my celiac disease diagnosis. It was on my hands. It disappeared, along with my enlarged thyroid, once I went gluten free. Was gluten the actual cause of my eczema or triggered my Hashimoto’s thyroiditis? I do not think so. I think was due to my faulty immune system made worse b...
