  1. Genetic tests can not diagnose celiac disease because some 35% of the population carries the genes that only a tiny few actually develop. It is used to help rule out celiac disease. However, researchers are discovering more genes that can be attributed to celiac disease. Unfortunately, I am not very good with genetic tests. Your results state low chance...
  2. Sometimes, they can reach the end of your small intestine to confirm a celiac disease diagnosis. Glad your colon is healthy. Hang in there!
  3. Spring is quickly departing and we are heading into summer here in Southern California. My daffodils, freesias, and iris are long gone. Some Camilla bushes are still in bloom. My fruit trees (apricot, Valencia orange, lemon and plum) have stopped blooming and already have fruit growing. I should have tomatoes in a few weeks if we get fewer classic May...
  4. Turmeric could be helpful or or might not. Everyone reacts differently to foods. For example, garlic, leeks and onions are supposed to have anti inflammatory properties but they trigger my Rosacea (facial redness, raised skin, pustules) and cause GI upset despite being healed from celiac disease. Experiment and determine which foods are best for...
  5. I have to agree with Ennis. Many of with celiac disease have more than one autoimmune disorder. I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and celiac disease. I also have a recent diagnosis of autoimmune gastritis. In a nutshell, my body is attacking my stomach cells that produce acid. Therefore I often have low stomach acid. Adding foods like apple cider vinegar a...
  6. There could be wax derived from gluten. But the odds of the fruit and veggies that use gluten is probably pretty rare. Just wash your fruit or peel. Try buying organic or growing your own. https://fruitgrowers.com/why-getting-fruit-wax-is-important-when-selling-your-fruit/ You might be reacting to the fructose in the fruit. Cucumbers and...
  7. It could be true, if you were buying them from a little farmer like a neighbor. Most commercially grown strawberries are grown using plastic to insulate the strawberries. I live in California where strawberries are grown locally and sold from stands. Even small strawberry patches use the plastic. Here is what a Canadian celiac group has to say: ...
  8. Good news!
  9. As long as they are going down, you should be happy. The celiac blood tests were meant to help diagnose celiac disease, but not to monitor the gluten-free diet. However, it is the only non-evasive “tool in the toolbox” for now. You can expect for those numbers to take a year or so to come down. It all depends on how well you do on the diet and how you...
  10. I sincerely hope you find answers! Keep us posted.
  11. This is your chance to contact Your Congress Representative! Act now! “Cosponsor H.R. 2074: The Gluten in Medicine Disclosure Act of 2019 Providing Consistency and Transparency for Consumers Cosponsors: Hastings, Khanna, McCollum, McGovern, Dear Colleague: According to the Mayo Clinic, the rate of celiac disease has almost q...
  12. I am glad you like your doctor. A PCP can not know everything, so it is good that you are researching on your own. Not everyone is lucky enough to get a diagnosis and there is still much to learn about gluten sensitivity. My own hubby went gluten free 20 years ago based on the advice of his PCP and my allergist. The diet worked. Does he have celiac...
  13. Hashimoto’s can be pretty easy to diagnose. Just have any doctor run a thyroid panel and include thyroid antibodies, especially if he or she can feel thyroid nodules or an enlargement. I have not heard of adrenals being involved or destroyed by Thyroid antibodies....maybe another autoimmune issue like lupus? https://www.thyroid.org/hashimotos-t...
  14. Ugh! Primary care physicians! Can they at least take the time to Google before offering recommendations that they know nothing about? Yikes! Consider a new PCP! What else might this doctor miss? GFinDC is correct about the times needed to do celiac disease testing. Unless you live in country that has very long wait times to see a specialist...
  15. I only had a positive on the DGP IgA, even on repeated celiac panels. I have NEVER had a positive on the TTG tests. The TTG test is good and catches most celiacs, but not all (like me) and it is cheaper to do just one test instead of the complete panel. (It is always about the money.....) My intestinal biopsies revealed some pretty severe damage. And...
  16. Do you have kids? Having a firm diagnosis can make it easier to get a diagnosis for them since celiac disease is genetic. It does take some “trigger” to activate it, but it definitely runs in families. Testing is not that inaccurate. It is not perfect, but it is pretty darn good. While I am diagnosed officially, my hubby is not. He is doing wel...
  17. I use Stubbs’ rub, chili mix and BBQ sauces. It is made in Austin Texas and certified gluten free. Otherwise, I use single spices. Hope someone can tell you about their experiences with Lawry’s.
  18. I do not think it is an issue, but I prefer to purchase from companies that disclose all their ingredients and their sources (even non-food items). I think it would be unlikely that you could get a gluten exposure from dried hair that lands in your mouth in a breezy day. Be careful when rinsing though — you could swallow it. I use Kirkland shampoo a...
  19. The search box feature on this forum is fantastic! I encourage everyone to use it. Chances are, there is either an article about the topic you are interested in or member comments. If you are new to celiac disease, Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or want to learn about the gluten free diet, I encourage you to read through the forum and perhaps get...
  20. The article did mention that some celiacs react to the type of protein in oats. So, even pure oats safely grown and processed may affect some celiacs. The problem is determining if you are a celiac who reacts. Oats is the only grain that might remotely cause a celiac flare up. Other grains can bother celiacs ( intolerance) but do not cause antibodies...
  21. Google how those grains are grown and where. https://www.allergicliving.com/2015/01/06/need-to-know-oats-and-the-gluten-free-diet-canada/
  22. Looks good to me! Lots of chemicals though (necessary in preventing skin cancer), so avoid eating it. Wash your hands and dry with a paper towel or old towel. Sunscreens stain! Ugh!
  23. Ennis might have a good brand that is gluten free. He also has Ulcerative Colitis which compounds his digestive issues. I think CountryLife is certified gluten free. I have used their lactose version (Dairyzymes) for the times I get a rare gluten exposure. You could also consult with your pharmacist too. My best advice is to avoid processed foods...
