Extreme sensitivity-at my wits’ end
cyclinglady replied to SCC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! Have you had a repeat endoscopy since your original diagnosis? Any repeat blood testing? That should be done to rule out active celiac disease. It might be something other than celiac disease. -
Sinuses sensitive to potato chips but not potatoes
cyclinglady replied to hayley3's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Sulfites can occur naturally in foods like wine. They can be found in dried potatoes. https://www.verywellhealth.com/sulfite-allergy-82911 -
Exactly when did you think you last had a gluten exposure? Once triggered, your antibodies can ramp up and can last for weeks or even months. For example, when I have had a gluten exposure, I become lactose intolerant for a month or so. Actually, it can hurt to digest ANYTHING for me. It is one reason that when I have been glutened, I make a pot of...

Is a Gluten-Free Diet Still Enough for People with Celiac Disease?
cyclinglady commented on Max Librach's article in Winter 2011 Issue
I hope your GI visit is successful. I struggled with lingering GI symptoms almost a year after a gluten exposure. A repeat endoscopy revealed a healed small intestine and diagnosed a new autoimmune disorder. I encourage anyone who continues to suffer from symptoms to rule out active (flaring) celiac disease as the culprit by getting follow-up testing...- 10 comments

Is a Gluten-Free Diet Still Enough for People with Celiac Disease?

I think you would find it just as difficult in some ways in the US to get a celiac disease diagnosis. Unfortunately, you must be consuming gluten for any celiac test (blood or biopsy) to work. But you can live gluten free even without a diagnosis. You can find a pharmacist who can insure your medications are gluten and lactose free, but you might be required...- 10 comments

It used to say gluten free on the can, but not anymore. Probably because they do not test it to insure it is less than 20 ppm, but there are no gluten ingredients. Some Bush’s beans have been tested by the Gluten Free Watchdog and passed. Consider joining. If you have a request, the GFW might test it. Costs less than a subscription to people magazine.....

Gluten is a protein which is sticky and not a germ that can be killed. It can be removed in the dishwasher or washed by hand. Make sure you have a dedicated gluten or gluten free sponge or dishcloth. Plastic gets scratched. Do not share it. Do not heat anything in plastic because it can melt and you could be consuming it. http://time.com...

Rash on elbow
cyclinglady replied to rachelhgh94's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Celiac disease can cause many rashes, but the most notable is Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH). It is usually bilateral (both sides of the body). The only way to know for sure is to get a skin biopsy. It can not be diagnosed visually. https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/related-conditions/dermatitis-herpetiformis/- 2 replies

I used to buy them when we went camping, but now I usually just make my salads from scratch (invest in a cheap salad spinner). There have been so many recalls on these processed salads for bacterial contamination. When I buy the spring baby greens (e.g. at Costco), I still wash and spin). Most packaged salads do not last long and are expensive. I usually...

Gluten free no beans chili
cyclinglady replied to Dane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I grew up on Hormel Chili as a camping or emergency staple (Mom does not want to cook). We served it over corn chips or pasta. I still stock my pantry with Hormel Chili for the same reasons. It is a meal my kid can prepare. The Hormel Chili with beans is labeled GLUTEN FREE. Even the newer “healthier” version is labeled gluten free. I never buy... -

Gluten free no beans chili
cyclinglady replied to Dane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Consider Carroll Shelby’s Chili Kit. Just purchase ground beef and follow the directions. You can always add tomatoes, beans (from dry, sorted and washed well before cooking) or more chilis. This mix is certified gluten-free and is probably available through Walmart, Target or Amazon. I buy it in my local grocery store. It freezes well. My kid t... -
Wow! Congratulations, Ennis! I am so happy that the vomiting stopped. I have been researching intermittent fasting. Right now, I am doing just 12 hour fasts. I would like to do it a little longer, but my down fall is drinking coffee in the morning with cream. Some days I try for just plain tea and can go 14 to 16 hours. I do not plan...

Still have symptoms, related to something else?
cyclinglady replied to ebutton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When was the last time you had follow-up testing for celiac disease? http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/how-often-should-follow-up-testing-occur/ I would suggest testing to rule out a celiac flare-up. If the results look good, see a GI for further evaluation. You can have concurrent autoimmune issues (like Crohn’s which also is systemic a... -

I think adults can live their life anyway they choose. It sounds like this friend has been getting some medical care. Unless you are are a very close friend, you should back off. You could be arrested for stalking or harassment. I could be wrong, but this seems so strange. We are here to give advice about living the gluten free lifestyle. We can...

Nope. I do not think it was a lab error. The only way to know for sure is to get retested. I get the denial....... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3436057/ I have never even had a positive on the TTG or EMA (repeated at least five times). However, my DGP IgA has been elevated. How much? I do not know as my lab cut off is 100...

Taco Seasoning Mix
cyclinglady replied to whitelacegal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here are ingredients I found online: “YELLOW CORN FLOUR, SALT, MALTODEXTRIN, PAPRIKA, SPICES, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, SUGAR, GARLIC POWDER, CITRIC ACID, YEAST EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVOR, SILICON DIOXIDE.” It looks to be gluten free. I can tell you that I would be ill eating it because I can not do garlic and chili pepper (which must be in spices as ...
