Celiac? Negative bloods.
cyclinglady replied to Crispy chick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you might have to wait 12 months, consider going gluten free now. Add gluten into your diet two to four weeks prior to your endoscopy. I must warn you that a challenge can even be worse. It is worth researching and making an informed decision. Google: gluten challenge. -
It is not a rash, but hives and swelling. Some doctors think it is a separate autoimmune disorder or that it piggybacks on to others. It is more commonly associated with autoimmune thyroiditis. My last bout lasted for six months. They appeared (from my head to my soles of my feet) every afternoon around 4:00 pm and resolved by morning. Oddly, they...

Celiac? Negative bloods.

Your GP is probably restricted or prohibited from ordering a complete celiac panel. The GI should be able to do this. Again, I have never had a positive on the TTG (IgA or IgG versions) and I have taken it at least five times. I am confirmed via biopsy. The GI can also check for other GI related autoimmune issues like Crohn’s. I though for sure m... -
So disgusted! (With myself and Celiac)

I enjoy listening to Ted Talks. I found this one on dementia. The take? No success in developing drugs to stop dementia, so they are looking for ways to prevent it through diet! Food can heal! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f0WCb23KPEw Interesting! -
While a Celiac reaction requires actual consumption of gluten, I take no risks. Sunscreen might melt into my mouth a long bike trip or I could bite a nail. I use CeraVe lotion for my face. In winter, I use their heavier cream. I also use the Equate “CeraVe” version by Walmart which is made in Canada. I use a lot of sunscreen. I buy Equate whi...

Wow! I had cold urticaria (hives) when growing up. Actually my whole life. Amazing, it resolved after my celiac disease diagnosis. Luckily, I live in Sunny Southern California. It made for a hard time skiing, but I did it anyway. Swimming in the Pacific Ocean triggered it too. Even an ice cube on my skin caused. Girls were required to wear dresses...

Before trying this, may I suggest getting your thyroid checked? I was slowing down and not feeling 100%. My recent lab reports indicate that I am hypothyroid again. My thyroid dosage had to be increased. Previously, I had been on my current dosage for almost five years. Just a thought.

So disgusted! (With myself and Celiac)

All your symptoms after a gluten exposure? Very common. When traveling, I bring my own food or purchase food when I arrive. I use a variety of coolers and stay in a hotel that can provide a frig. We camp and use an RV too. When out of the country, I bring international gluten-free language cards that can be found through a quick google search.... -
Celiac? Negative bloods.
cyclinglady replied to Crispy chick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had my kid retested for celiac disease and we are waiting for the results. Her doctor does not hesitate to test since I have a firm diagnosis. I can also say that my PCP and GI never hesitate to check for other AI issues either. They know that you can develop more than one autoimmune disorder. Better to catch it early before damage! If... -
Potential Pitfalls even on Fasano Diet?
cyclinglady replied to Alaskaguy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think it is because celiac disease was not “discovered” until after WWI when in Europe the fields were destroyed and there were wheat shortages. Little malnourished kids became well for the first time. Then the doctor began experimenting on his patients (good luck with that today) feeding those sick children a banana diet and they flourished. Doctors sti... -
Daughter's Lab Test Results
cyclinglady replied to Tracy Adkins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So, she had small intestinal damage? Well, the elevated TTG IgA confirms the celiac disease diagnosis, in my non-medical opinion. Going gluten free can be tough on a teen. We are waiting for results of my kid’s celiac panel. She has to be tested every few years since I have celiac disease (she just completed a three month gluten challenge as she h... -
Celiac? Negative bloods.

He ran the entire panel, but I had a GI consult for a colonoscopy because I had hit 50. He read my chart and decided to test for celiac disease. I do not know why I test positive only to the DGP IgA even in follow-up tests. May it is the Hashimoto’s, who knows? But most primary care physicians order just the TTG tests which catches most but not all c... -
Potential Pitfalls even on Fasano Diet?
cyclinglady replied to Alaskaguy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
No worries about the hospital. My hubby is not officially diagnosed with celiac disease. He went gluten-free per the advice of two medical doctors some 20 years ago. He recently had surgery and the hospital managed to keep him gluten free, but I had to advocate hard (drug verification was awkward and difficult as I did much of the legwork). Now prisons... -
Celiac? Negative bloods.

Yes! Get re-checked. Celiac disease can develop at anytime. Some celiacs are seronegative and need to go directly to an endoscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. Some do not test positive to the commonly used screening TTG celiac tests (like me). Ask for the DGP and EMA tests. Some celiacs are IgA (Immunoglobulin A) deficient. This means that any... -
Your mental health issues may be very impacted by or even the root cause of your possible untreated celiac disease. Researchers are studying the gut-brain connection. Look at this as an opportunity to to improve your health. Thankfully, celiac disease can be treated by the gluten free diet. https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions...

Welcome! The TTG IgA can be elevated due to other Autoimmune disorders, but just slightly. Your result definitely requires you to be referred to a GI for further evaluation (e.g. small intestinal biopsies). My guess? Your odds that you have celiac disease is very high. I am a TD2, have celiac disease, and have many intolerances and allergies...

I do not have any ideas except to research other autoimmune disorders. Once you have one, you can develop more AI issues. Any possibility of drug side effects? For example the FDA has a black box warning in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinilines (e.g. Cipro by Bayer). These can cause tendon issues. Here is a list of autoimmune disorders...

What are your iron results? Was ferritin (iron stores) taken? Are you actually anemic (low hemoglobin)? The results you posted are your Immunoglobulins. Looks like your IgE is high, but then it is Spring and allergy season is supposed to be pretty bad this year (at least in the US). What riggers your allergies (e.g. cats, horses, mold, etc.)? Have...

The EMA test is the most expensive of the celiac blood tests because it is not machine run, but done by humans. A lab mistake could have been made. With negative genes, the rest of the panel and symptoms eliminated, chances are you do not have celiac disease, but you can always get retested in six months, if you have symptoms or think celiac disease could...

Italian-Style Fifteen Bean Soup (Gluten-Free)
cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Italian
Natually gluten free? All raw agricultural products, by law, can contain some foreign materials. That includes stones, twigs and even grains like wheat, barley or rye. All dry beans should be sorted and cleaned prior to cooking. -
Fasano Elimination Diet and Juices/Beverages
cyclinglady replied to Alaskaguy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! I can say thank you in Polish, but can not spell it. This is a bit off topic, but I will post this here and then open a new topic. A month or so ago, a guest commented on an article that Celiac.com had published. The guest mentioned that she has been a celiac for decades, long before the gluten free craze. She noticed that she is now... -
Maybe IGA deficient?
cyclinglady replied to FieryGhosts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The celiac tests are: TTG IgA TTG IgG DGP IgA DGP IgG EMA IgA And....Immunogobulin A (IgA). This test is used only as a control test when checking for celiac disease. If your body is not producing enough IgA, the IgA celiac tests are invalid or will not work. You would also have a immune deficiency issues too. But that...
