  1. Oh no! One celiac test? Only one was given? The TTG IgA, I assume or you just got the Immunoglobulin A (IGA) test? You should insist on the complete celiac panel. You should also know that some people with DH do not test positive on any of the celiac blood tests. If your skin biopsies are negative, make sure they biopsy was taken correctly — not o...
  2. Why....why would your doctor not follow the standard of care for testing celiac disease? I think you need to think about finding another doctor. If you are in the US, you can “walk” into a lab and order the test and pay cash: https://labtestsonline.org/tests/celiac-disease-antibody-tests No, your result does not significantly lower your odds of ...
  3. No these are certified gluten-free and are made in a dedicated facility. However, these are made with oats and some celiacs react to oats — gluten free or not. Plus, these are a processed food. You could be reacting to something other than gluten. Me? I am an adult Girl Scout who has celiac disease.
  4. Did your doctor test you for celiac disease before advising a gluten free diet? Celiac disease can be asymptomatic and it is commonly linked to Hashimoto’s and/or Type 1 Diabetes (same genes — just a “heads up”). If clear of celiac disease the diet might be helpful, or consider the autoimmune Paleo diet which is also gluten free. Scripps in San Diego d...
  5. I use Best Foods which is on the west coast. Hellman’s is on the east. It is safe as far as gluten free goes. I do not have soy issues. You can make mayo from scratch. It is easy. Scan the internet for the type of oil is best for you. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-CVYVFj1vmQ
  6. @Averypolk- I bet that gluten can mess with your cycle by stressing your body. I never had a period during finals week when I was a student. Same thing happened to my teen. Stress can get you, mental or physical. Of course, there is a possibility you could be pregnant. But only you would know that.
  7. @Daphne do — based on a quick search online, this product is gluten free. Just tuna and water. Same as the ingredients you saw on the can or pouch? http://blueharborfishco.com/faqs I would eat it. I just bought Wild Planet tuna at Costco. It is not certified, but I think it is safe. I like the convenience.
  8. There is a site/app called, “Find Me Gluten Free”. I checked it, but no luck. Best to bring your own. I would just bring or buy some other treats. Save your gluten-free Beignets for when you are at home and they come out of the fryer. Hot. Yum. Personally, I would skip the gluten-free donuts. I could not find any dedicated gluten-free bakeries in ...
  9. The Canadian celiac site is a good place to start. Most celiac associations or research centers have information for newbies and of course, Celiac.com is a good resource. Learn to use the search box to query a topic. In the forum section, under the “Coping” section look for the Newbie 101 thread pinned at the top. I am a celiac. I was diagnosed wit...
  10. That is really weird! The standard, pretty much world-wide, to screen for celiac disease is to order the TTG. Usually the TTG IgA and IgA (Immunoglobulin A) test (which is used in the case of celiac disease testing as a control test to see if the TTG IgA works) is ordered. This is one the most cost effective methods. Often, the TTG IGA and TTG IgG test...
  11. So true. Food intolerances are so common! Some resolve and some do not. Definitely worth investigating.
  12. NP Thyroid is definitely gluten free per some of our long-term, celiac savvy members (e.g. Gemini, If I recall). And unlike my Armour, NP even states it is gluten free on their website: https://npthyroid.com/about/ Again, you might have developed a corn intolerance which might be the dextrose source, but it is so refined. I doubt this would be...
  13. If you had flattened villi and they recovered on a gluten free diet, you have celiac disease and not one of the many other things that can cause villi damage. If you have celiac disease, chances are that rash is DH. DH is celiac disease.
  14. Okay, I do not have DH, but I do know that you have to be on gluten for 8 to 12 weeks for not just the blood test, but for a skin biopsy punch. Please, read through the DH section to get clarity on this. Is there anyway you can get that dermatologist appointment sooner? Cancellations? Begging? Dapsone is a very strong drug with very serious consequences...
  15. A bit off topic, but please make sure your child is screened for celiac disease. https://beyondtype1.org/celiac-disease/
  16. Did you get follow celiac antibodies blood tests? This will help insure that your celiac disease is not active. Then you can rule out celiac disease as a cause of your dizziness. Dizziness can be caused by so many things as evidenced by this Wikipedia definition: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dizziness Maybe you can see another doctor?
  17. Welcome! Do you think you might have celiac disease and want to learn about getting tested? Or do you have celiac disease and you want to learn more about the gluten free diet?
  18. Some celiacs are seronegative. Some celiacs never test positive to the screening TTG. Did you received the complete celiac panel (TTG, EMA and DGP)? I test positive to only the DGP IgA even in follow-up testing. Many things can cause villi damage: https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/what-else-can-cause-damage-to-the-small-intestine-other...
  19. No. I have been taking Armour Thyroid for over 20 years. It is gluten free. I am also a repeat biopsy-confirmed healed celiac. Autoimmune thyroiditis is common and is often linked with celiac disease. Why are you taking thyroid hormone replacement? If you have celiac disease and are having abdominal pain, maybe you have a corn intolerance. ...
  20. Nice article. Thank you for thinking of me. Unfortunately, I do not have the type of Gastritis that is commonly affiliated with celiac disease and that can resolve on a gluten free diet. I went on a strict (Fasano) gluten free diet prior to my repeat endoscopy. I finally gave in to,the endoscopy because my GERD like symptoms were not improving. The...
  21. I would not test my kid unless I was sure she had been consuming gluten for at least 8 weeks. In fact, I just got a lab order yesterday for my daughter. We will not have her blood drawn until we have completed 8 weeks of consuming gluten daily. Otherwise, the antibodies tests may not be accurate. Read more about a gluten challenge: https://www.cureceliacdisease...
  22. This product is used in more than just meat and fish per the article you cited. Very worrisome indeed. “Due to its broad enzymatic activity, it is heavily used by the food processing industries (8, 9, 12, 18–23). In fact, the enzyme is consumed by most of the processed food industries, spanning the meat, dairy, sea food and fish, surimi, casein and...
  23. I get incompetent doctors! Believe me! With your blood and genetic tests and very strong family history, odds are you are celiac. I was hoping that a medical doctor diagnosis would make it easier for your kids to get tested if you had insurance or access. Just trying to save you some cash. My hubby is not formally diagnosed. He went gluten free...
  24. Any family doctor will prescribe you thyroid hormone replacement with those results. The thyroid is an easy fix. Why suffer? I recall that I felt the effects within day or so. It was amazing! My kid just got a lab order for a complete celiac panel (she is beefing up on gluten). The cost without insurance is $450. Are you paying for the tests...
  25. Hi Dimer! While I do not have DH, I can (based on member input) share that those with DH need to be super strict (e.g. avoiding processed foods as 20 ppm might be too much for DH sufferers and eating out). Search out Squirmingitch’s posts in the DH section. She explains the need to cut down on foods containing iodine, but for only a short t...
