  1. Please do not stop consuming gluten if you are getting tested. Know that diagnosing DH can be tricky. I encourage you to read through the DH section of the forum. You will learn things like how to get a special skin biopsy, tips for managing DH once diagnosed, and blood test and endoscopy pitfalls which can be possible with DH. Just looking...
  2. True, but I bet the OP was not advised of the side effects. What actually was her diagnosis for the diarrhea? It seems they do not know. I Experienced a horrible side effect (neuropathy — imagine a bee inside your foot buzzing causing electrical jolts) that lingered for six months after my gallbladder surgery. It was like something out of an old B...
  3. Scott’s advice was good. My advice would be to consider getting second opinion from a celiac-savvy GI. (Get your records). Your GI should know that you can heal the small intestine within weeks. Usually, it can take much longer to heal because celiac disease affects other body part systems and the diet can be hard to master. My family is r...
  4. I am not a doctor, but I do know that you can develop more than one autoimmune disorder. Please see your doctor. Dry eyes can be a sign of Sjögren’s syndrome (a close friend has this): https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sjogrens-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353216 I had my gallbladder removed because it was non-functioning and ac...
  5. @JWK a positive DGP IgA? That was me. I think your doctor thought that you needed positives on all the celiac tests. I have never had a positive on the TTG or EMA tests. I am not IgA deficient. I am biopsy confirmed. My diagnosis was a shock. I had no GI symptoms. I did have life-long anemia, but that was blamed on “heavy periods” (whatever tha...
  6. I do not recall exhaustion. But pain and nausea that occurred...humm....when I ate. Even traveled without eating all day. I was like my Dad just consuming liquids or not eating. I also recall being afraid to eat my first meal post surgery. But I ate and had no pain.
  7. They do a contrast with the HIDA scan. Then they inject a hormone that causes the gallbladder to squeeze and empty. This is called the refractory rate. If your gallbladder is not emptying, you are going to suffer, you need that bile to digest any fats. Eventually the gallbladder stops functioning and it can rot ( infection). That is what happened to...
  8. Hey, did you ever get a HIDA scan? Your gallbladder can cause severe pain and nausea. If I recall your ultrasound was okay, but that can not catch a non-functioning gallbladder (which is commonly linked to celiac disease). Be sure to get and keep all your medical records.
  9. When was the last time your antibodies (DGP or TTG) were tested? This should help determine if your celiac disease is still active. I am sure your GI will re-biopsy and check for things like SIBO, Crohn’s, active celiac disease or refractory celiac disease.
  10. No way, I would consume Campbell’s! While it might not contain wheat, it might not be gluten free. They are most likely made on a shared line. Best to see of Campbell’s has a gluten free list on their website. If you want canned soup, try the clearly marked gluten free Progressive soups. Those are in my pantry for the next earthquake!
  11. This is a celiac website and the OP posted under the forum section and was not respond8ng to the article. If the OP wants information about oxalates, she should perhaps ask her doctor, consult with a dietician, or find an oxalate (which is related to kidney disease) dedicated website in my opinion. While Monique is very knowledgeable, she states she...
  12. Probably an old figure, but I think it is still valid or pretty close. And here is some supporting evidence: https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/facts-and-figures/ You are probably NOT The only celiac in your family. Chances are (up to 44% per a recent Mayo Clinic Study), you have other family members who have undiagnosed celiac disease...
  13. Hi! Remember, this is a celiac disease website dedicated to helping those who have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. The article was written by a layperson and not someone who is a scientist (but may have to live with a low oxidase diet). Best to get your information from very reliable sources like medical universities/research centers. ...
  14. Well, I am not a doctor, but I think that is a fairly normal response based on what members have said on this forum and my own experience. Your daughter started out with a very high result, so I think it would take time to lower. Remember, the blood tests were to help diagnose celiac disease and were not designed to help monitor healing or dietary compliance...
  15. This is just one doctor’s opinion and it is based on some small studies on the hepatitis vaccine. Treated celiacs were equal to non- celiacs in that tiny study and The good news is that you are treated. Remember Too that his expertise is in celiac disease. He is not an immunologist or virologist. No one really knows much about this new virus. T...
  16. Hi! Congratulations! I am so happy for your mother and Aunt. Not sure about your question though. I am just guessing, but maybe your Aunt has permanent damage (structural changes). I think the important thing is the intact villi. I had a 3B, and no structural changes at all, at least that were noted. My GI just said everything looked fine...
  17. Just a few small studies on the Hepatitis B vaccine. But it appears the vaccine works if the celiac patients are on a gluten free diet. What is worrisome are those undiagnosed celiacs (80%) may not fare as well. One more reason to get celiacs diagnosed. Encourage your relatives to get tested. https://celiac.org/about-the-foundation/featured-news...
  18. Update from Dr. Murray, Mayo Clinic:
  19. Dr.Joseph Murray (Gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic) was interviewed by The People's Pharmacy. His recommendations for celiac disease patients: COVID-19 infection can present as GI symptoms, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, and loss of appetite. Don't assume your GI symptoms are from gluten exposure, get tested for COVID-19. Celiac disease...
  20. I am sorry that you are ill. What was the source of your gastritis (like an ulcer, autoimmune gastritis or H.Pylori infection)? I have celiac disease. Like you, I had stomach (Gastric) issues. My endoscopy/biopsies revealed a healed small intestine, but autoimmune gastritis. Is your celiac disease in remission? I noticed you posted...
  21. My dentist would tell you to stop consuming coffee and tea. 😂
  22. I do not know. I would be worried about gluten. Seriously, I live in California where it is legal. Problem is there is a ton of illegal pot. Even our state is complaining as they not getting the tax revenue. So who is making sure they are proving the real unadulterated thing? That said, I am still against it unless there is a medical need...
  23. I am sorry that your husband is not supportive. Perhaps, he should attend a doctor’s visit with you (even a telemedicine call), to learn more about celiac disease and cross contamination. My husband is gluten free. But when my daughter came home after consuming gluten, she had to wash her hands and face. There is no time limit for gluten. It is sticky a...
