No question is dumb. There is a steep learning curve to the diet. We were all newbies at one time. There is a huge list of gluten ingredients available if you search for it. I carried one in my purse/phone but it was a hassle. So, I started to choose either certified gluten free products or those with five or so ingredients or less. I discovered...

Do not buy nuts in bulk from Sprouts. There is a great risk of cross contamination. In fact, I avoid that bulk area which also includes of all horrors — wheat flour! I buy an assortment from Costco. Read the label. Planters has a good reputation. I also order from Nuts.com. Use the search box located in the forum. Query “nuts”. You will ...

Questions about health
cyclinglady replied to Joepilk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the club you never wanted to join! ? It sounds like your current symptoms are due to celiac disease. It just takes time to heal. It also takes time to really master the gluten free diet. It takes time to identify additional food intolerances that may resolve once you have healed or not. Expect symptoms to last for a few more weeks... -
I am glad you are on the road to healing. Your weight should correct itself naturally. Give it some time as you have been seriously ill. I fractured my back two months after my diagnosis. That was worst mentally than my celiac diagnosis. It meant not getting on my bike. So, I focused on healing my gut and my back. Soon, I was back on my bike. Be patient...

UK Companies Pull Nearly Seventy Products Over Undeclared Allergens
cyclinglady commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
I suppose this is a big deal if done all at once (70 products), but in the United States, the FDA and USDA issue almost daily emails of recalled products containing undeclared allergens (not counting all those with bacterial contamination). Anyone can sign up to receive notifications .- 3 comments

Gluten Free Pills
cyclinglady replied to Emily1975's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sometimes kids outgrow their allergies! I sincerely hope this happens to them. Do antihistamines help if wheat is ingested? While gluten-free foods are not exactly the same as wheat based foods, homemade versions are superior. gluten-free tastes better the longer you are away from gluten. Over time, you sort of forget what gluten-containing foods... -
Gluten Free Pills
cyclinglady replied to Emily1975's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am a little concerned. Were your children diagnosed by a board-certified allergist (MD)? We have IgE allergies in our family that require carrying EPI pens. No way, we would give a allergy kids access to those foods that they are allergic to. The risk is too high. I have celiac disease and I would not use those gluten pills at all even though... -
@Ennis_TX — love that online lab testing option. Love that in the US you can order a test online and walk into a local lab to get blood drawn. Make sure Quest or LabCorp is used as the final processor. They are the best. Skip genetic testing because 30% or more of the population carries the genes that could develop into into celiac disease but a a tiny a...

I did not mean to imply that ibuprofen is not safe, but when prescribed by a doctor to give daily to a kid for maybe months without knowing the root cause of the symptoms is wrong in my non-medical opinion. Ibuprofen is a drug (even if available over the counter) and all drugs have risks and benefits and should be researched. It has two black box warnings...

First, get another doctor! Seriously, this doctor knows nothing about celiac disease (very common as doctors can not know everything), but she should have at least Googled it! (There is a doctor website that helps them diagnose patients along with all their years of training). All celiac disease testing requires a patient to be on a full gluten diet...

Brushed Stainless Steel Cross Contamination?
cyclinglady replied to GF Joe's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Good question. Maybe contact the manufacturer? I have an Instant Pot, but my pot has a shiny stainless liner. The latest liners appear to be shiny inside and brushed on the outside. So the brushed metal might not be a concern. Many Instant Pot gurus advocate for buying a secondary pot. You could keep one for gluten and the other gluten free....- 8 replies

Personally, I would carefully weigh the risks and benefits of an antidepressant. Do some research and make an informed decision. Once you heal from celiac disease, you may that your depression and anxiety melt away (if you find that celiac disease was the cause of it). It did for me. Every medication has a risk. Discuss all options with your doctor...

My house is gluten free. I do not allow any gluten inside — ever. I do allow it when we are having a party outside and I set up an extra table to hold those foods to prevent cross contamination. When that type of party occurs, I toss or send home ALL the food with non-celiacs. When I invite people over and they ask what they can bring, I u...

I am thinking like Karen. Maybe it is NOT gluten that is triggering your symptoms. Have you had your antibodies checked recently? It might help to see if gluten is really the culprit. I was certain I had a gluten exposure a while back. This time, besides, all the usual GI symptoms, I developed autoimmune hives (which lasted for six months). After...

Esophagus
cyclinglady replied to Waleed's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A Marsh 1 at 2 years into the diet! Oh no! Refractory is considered rare and is often over diagnosed. Often hidden amounts of gluten is getting into the diet. Have you tried the “Fasano” diet? Dr. Fasano is a leading US celiac expert at MassachusettsGeneral/Harvard University in Boston. I would definitely do this diet which is basically no processed foo... -
I saw this cute video about vitamins and thought I would share. As newly diagnosed celiacs we may need extra vitamins due to intestinal damage, but do we need them once healed? Do healthy people need vitamins? Vitamin supplements are a huge industry and are largely unregulated in the U.S. Do we even know where raw materials are sourced from? What are...

Esophagus
cyclinglady replied to Waleed's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
@Waleed Why have you been gluten free for two years? Do you have celiac disease? Have you been retested to determine diet compliancy? Have you consulted with more than one Gastroenterologist? When you have one autoimmune disorder, you can develop more and often those are not easily treatable, like celiac disease. -

Ruth, I am so glad you shared your story. I had never heard of Nutcracker Esophagus. I Googled it. Lucky that you finally found a doctor who could diagnose you. -

Has EOE been ruled out? https://apfed.org/about-ead/egids/eoe/ -
Well, sometimes celiac disease is caught when the GI is in the intestines trying to determine a diagnosis. The problem is that several things can cause villi damage like NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen), allergies, etc. The blood test confirms the celiac disease diagnosis as it measures antibodies. Celiac disease can develop at any time in your life. I...
