The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Today was pretty low key since it is just the two of us and I am not going to buy a small ham, make a big dinner, and eat on it all week, haha. I had a frozen chicken broccoli rice casserole to bake for lunch, and when it was baking our power went out in a rain storm. After about 45 minutes I was going to pull it out of the oven and toss it, then go hunt... -

Tonight was pizza pitas using local oven gluten-free pita bread. They are based here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and sell in some close stores. I just wanted pizza so bad! -

I got the sandwich bread, which does have dairy. But from a few things I read on places like yelp, tripadvisor, urbanspoon etc, they have been around a long time and have a lot of good, perfected recipes. Got 8 loaves of that, 2-2packs of pizza crust, an order of 2 chocolate whoopie pies, and an order of chocolate donuts. Tried it all except the pizza... -

Today for dinner is crock pot red beans and ham. I was super excited today because I got in my order of stuff from Gluten Free Creations Bakery. Their Sandwich bread was the "omgomgomg this is the best gluten-free bread ever" I had in the hospital and I ate some today and was in heaven. Threw in a chocolately treat or two to go with it as well, lol. I... -

Today for dinner I threw in a pre prepped and frozen recipe of Apple BBQ pork tenderloin in the crock pot that I had thawed out. I modified this recipe: http://homegrownandhealthy.com/crock-pot-apple-bbq-pork-tenderloin/ to use just smooth applesauce, more seasoning, and added some water because my BBQ sauce was thick. Turned out really really good. When... -

I'm so glad you are doing well! It must be an emancipating feeling, for sure. I keep craving pizza and tacos, probably because of all the TV and commercials I have been watching while healing, lol. But I won't dare try those for a while. Have a chebe mix in the pantry for when I do!! I, too, have been eagerly anticipating the delivery guy. I have been... -

So I finally figured out which bread I ate at the hospital that was the best thing Ive ever put in my mouth. It is the sandwich bread from Gluten Free Creations in Phoenix, AZ. They sell to a regional food distributor and thats who the hospital got it from. So, I ordered 8 loaves of it! Haha! I could never get my husband to happily eat gluten-free bread... -

I want rainbow carrots!!! I, too am sick of frozen dinners... its funny how much you spoil yourself when you home cook most everything. Had my stepmom put on a freezer crock pot meal... honey garlic chicken. Will have that tonight so hopefully it is good. Was a recipe I made untested off the internet. I think by tomorrow I will be pretty much independent... -

I'm sitting at my computer desk right now for the first time Harder to move arms and type and stuff will mostly browse but yay for entertainment not on a cell phone! I think I should be able to start cutting down on the pain med tomorrow. My hubby is going back to work so he will leave mid afternoon and have me set up with things in easy to reach places... -

Im alive!!!!! One of the worst experiences of my adult life, they ended up keeping me over night to control my pain as I had a hard time and was basically a 10/10 pain level in delirium all Thursday. They were able to feed me half decently but I hadn't prepared for that so I was all like... Ugh. Lol. Went home the next day, much more comfortable at home... -

HAHAHAHA my husband was up past dawn playing the new Diablo expansion. We are big wow players, I play Diablo casually but he is a serious gamer. Like, sometimes I think I need to take him to gaming rehab, LOL! Jamie, that chicken stir fry sounds good, pretty similar to what I do. I am all for making delicious things with leftovers, I eat them at lunchtime... -

Need Feedback On Demand For Gluten-Free B&b's

I would stay at a GF Bed and Breakfast if it was in a location I was already going to. If I had a few places in mind it would help me decide to go there out of the choices. However, I think serving GF food won't be enough of a selling point, it has to be well run otherwise as well. Definitely an all inclusive meal plan would be a great option. -

It was me! Mine worked pretty well on my eczema and didn't give me acne like most heavy moisturizers do, but I felt like I smelled like a cookie, lol. I think my favorite gluten-free bakery must use coconut oil or flour because it matched the smell when you go in there. I tasted it, too... nothing special but I can see how it may stand out badly in... -
If it looks like the dressing is sealed off pretty good I think you are fine tossing it and eating the veggies. If there were croutons I would be more weary and look for crumbs. But I have gotten, for example, a fruit and cheese snack plate on and airplane, and the crackers with it were well sealed so I tossed them and ate the other stuff.

Today as a meal for myself I sauteed some sweet potatoes and kale with a small shallot, and added some leftover grilled chicken. It was really really good, sweet potatoes and kale go well together. Seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper. For dinner I am going to make a grilled pork tenderloin, serve with some green beans and Idahoan steakhouse bacon... -

Welcome, Scott! Will you please come cook for me? LOL... that looks great! Feel free to dive right in, I really like this rolling thread because it gives me meal inspirations. If you ever want a certain recipe for something feel free to ask, there are a good deal of people in the same boat as you with the multiple intolerances. -

Oh, and I forgot to add. As we were eating our curry my husband said "There is a peice of corn in this," and pulled it out to show me. The only possible way it could have gotten in there is if it was hidden in the bag of frozen peas. In a great showy excited tone I told him, "THIS is why I don't eat things made on shared equipment with gluten!!!! Crap... -

Addy you and I are having surgery the same day. I'm scheduled the 27th to get my gallbladder out if I can stay away from germs this time. It is acting up this week, too...
