I was filling in a "special diet" section in a hospital form for an op I have to have in a few days time, as I have to probably stay over for 24 hours, and there was no section for gluten free/Coeliac Disease. 😟 However, the hotel I am staying at the night before offers a gluten free option for breakfast. Unfortunately because I can't eat that morning I ...

How Common are Vomiting and Nausea After Gluten Exposure in Celiac Disease?
cristiana commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
My children are both terrified of being sick. I trace it back to a holiday in Italy when they were very young and both were very sick following a meal at a restaurant. Neither are coeliac, but I can imagine being a coeliac with a fear of vomiting could be a challenging thing to manage. I think one thing worth pointing out to your daughter is that not...- 22 comments

Am I removing gluten from my dishes or pushing it around?
cristiana replied to Wingo's topic in Super Sensitive People
I often mention a dodgy old dishwasher on this forum that we used to own. I frequently emptied plates from it that didn't feel squeaky clean. When we replaced it with a dishwasher that used clean water for the initial rinse cycle, my Ttg numbers improved. Could have been a coincidence though. I know a lot of people in the UK who wash up and never... -
Outer ear pain - cartilage inflammation

No - so odd. But it feels as if it should be. It also feels as if I've been stung by a bee. No sting. -
Outer ear pain - cartilage inflammation
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Trents. Thanks for coming back to me. Very puzzling - nothing to show for it at all. I can only think that it is either something else altogether, or the ulcer takes a while to show. Apparently sleeping on the affected side is how it can arise, but I seldom sleep on that side. I have read that cartilage injuries can take a long while to heal because... -
For nearly a week now I've been suffering from very unpleasant ear pain - it feels at times it is the cartilage, the very tip of my ear - like someone is pulling at it or it's been nicked by a pair of scissors at the barbers type pain, other times it feels like there's a bee sting at the side of my head. It hurts if I put pressure on the ear, or the side...

I couldn't agree more, hobbies and interests are so important. I never really had one until my aunt suggested how important it was to have a hobby or interest so that when my then baby girl finally flew the nest it wouldn't be devastating. She was so right! A couple of years later I got involved in a particular interest I am so thankful - it has helped...

Yes, I get this too. My central vision sparkles for about 10 minutes then returns, smartphones being the biggest trigger. So I don't have one - I feel a complete dinosaur! "P.S. I do still get Opthalmic Migraines caused by looking at digital screens: computer screens, phone screens, tablet screens, even my flat screen television. My ophthalmologist...

When I was a teenager I suffered from a lot of migraines which left me with a headache, light sensitivity and very nauseous. I found certain light conditions triggered and exacerbated the issue, particularly strip lighting, and sun shining through a window in a stuffy classroom. Since going gluten free I've had a type of migraine from time to time...

How Common are Vomiting and Nausea After Gluten Exposure in Celiac Disease?
cristiana commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
Yes, the only major glutening episode I've had in recent years resulted in chills and vomiting two hours after eating. I was so surprised, I hadn't been that sick since I was a child. When I first went gluten free I just got diarrhea and a sore stomach after a substantial glutening. It seems the reaction is far worse now.- 22 comments

Hello @whaleroad - I'm from the UK, and a fellow crumpet-eater! (You will be glad to know if you do ever have to go gluten free, Warburtons make some delicious gluten free crumpets, and I actually prefer them to the normal ones!) I think you need to see what your results are. It could be that despite your gluten avoidance your results are still positive...

Just chiming into say I think mine took 8 years to get down to normal levels from memory. I tried so hard to get my numbers down, I rarely ate out, never cheated etc. I did make the odd mistake along the way but I think in my own case cross contamination at home must have been happening. I share the house with gluten eaters and we had a very suspect...

Tanja... it's now just gone eight in the morning here in the UK so I thought I'd check in. Do get the book - if you can't get it at the library, I'd say it's worth getting it online or from your local bookshop. A relative of mine is a GP and has a background in psychology and thinks it is fantastic. It has helped me, and I've given it to others, and...

Hi Tanja Definitely keep an eye out for changes in BMs and see a doctor if they persist, but it does sound likely that you can blame the blueberries on this occasion.😊 Just rereading your questions, yes, that hard area I have (the trapped fatty tissue) is always there, but I am only really aware of it, as I say, when I am putting on weight - th...

Perhaps rapid transit time is the reason you are having this at the moment and haven't experienced it before. The amount of time food takes to pass through the gut can make a big difference to the appearance of a stool. Anxiety is a common reason why food passes too fast through the gut too quickly, food intolerance and glutening, a stomach virus too. ...

Hi Tanja In answer to your question, on occasion I have pain around the trapped fatty tissue but only rarely - tends to be if I start putting on weight! It's normally the way I know I have to cut back! I don't know the answer to your last question - hopefully someone else will be able to help. Hugs Cristiana

Hi Acacia There are so many questions I have, about oats, ten years in from adopting a gluten-free diet, that are still unanswered. It took me several years before I could consume them again, and although they don't appear to affect my TTG numbers, they can still make me feel uncomfortable if I eat too many. I would say it would be worth trying...

Hi Tanja Congratulations on the birth of your baby! How old? I echo @trents advice, and @RMJ's thoughts. It is so tough that you have to cope with these concerns, so soon after having a baby which can be a challenging time for a new mum at the best of times. Thoughts: I wonder the lumps might turn out to be lipomas, which are benign...

Thanks for posting this, Jefferson. I have been wondering if he was a coeliac for some time, there has been a lot of talk about it.

You are welcome, Allegria. Should your blood tests come back negative it is worth remembering that a very small number of coeliacs test negative in blood tests, so if you have ongoing symptoms your gastroenterologist may wish to conduct an endoscopy just to be sure. The two other main reasons for a negative test could be insufficient consumption of...

Hello Allegria and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you have these ongoing symptoms. You have a good doctor: Yes, absolutely, coeliac disease can develop in that time. By way of an illustration, my nephew is type 1 diabetic and has to be tested for coeliac disease every three years here in the UK, as part of his ongoing care, as according...

Hi Chillycat. My symptoms were pretty similar to yours, except I also had terrible anxiety, and was very anaemic. -
Keep Messing Up and I am Paying for It
cristiana replied to Ginger38's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello Ginger38 I am sorry you have had such a rough ride of things. I have had similar experiences, such as, the time was taking an iron supplement that wasn't gluten free (I mistook Floradix for Floravital) a trip to France where I found the labelling very lax (it may have changed more recently) and I felt dreadful. Had a TTG test... -
Welcome @louai1920 I think it is brilliant that you have been able to achieve so much i.e. five years of medical school under so much pressure, well done. Like Scott, I think the hybrid solution makes the most sense of all. It must be difficult always having to cook food from scratch, with no gluten free pre-prepared food available. I have stayed...
