  1. My answer: Too much! So I'm trying to cut back radically for health reasons, and I'd like to be slimmer than I was last summer. Finding it incredibly difficult, though. Interesting about the coffee link @plumbago, I've read that before somewhere. At the moment I feel hungry and have a bit of a headache. I can't say I've ever felt fantastic...
  2. You are more than welcome, Anne. Also, bear in mind you will need to give up a few gluten containing treats if you are diagnosed, although increasingly there are good gluten-free substitutions on the market. In my case, although I kept eating bread, I left space for some McVitie's Penguins!
  3. "I never knew coeliac disease was serious." Well... it certainly needs to be taken seriously because, if untreated, it can lead to a lot of issues. But the good news is that following a strict gluten free diet is the answer, and most people respond well to a gluten free diet.🙂 That said, don't adopt one yet. You will need to continue eating th...
  4. Hi Anne Firstly, cellulitis, yes, I had it when I was in my mid-teens. A nick under my arm turned nasty and I had to have a boil lanced, and the tissue around it was very itchy and painful. The doctor didn't mention cellulitis at the time, I'm sure, but I was reading some old medical notes recently and saw it. I do wonder if I had it a few years...
  5. Hello AnneMcM and welcome to the forum! Interesting that you say you weren't being tested for coeliac disease - I wasn't aware when I was tested ten years ago, also! Like you I'd had some gastrological issues in the past, which in my case I'd put down to a nervous stomach. They got a lot worse, though, prior to my diagnosis, which was what prompted...
  6. Hello GeordieGeezer and welcome to the forum Very interesting to read your discovery. I am afraid I can't find anything on the internet to help, either, but I'm hoping someone on the board might have come across something in the past and be able to help. Out of interest, have you ever been tested for any intolerances or Coeliac Disease, and...
  7. Hi Odiesmom and welcome to the forum I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I am currently recovering from a small op so won't type a long reply. I just wanted to tell you that I've suffered with all the above, with the possible exception of confusion, although instead I found it was difficult to find the right words for things. I was...
  8. I am sick with chills about 2 hours after consuming a significant amount of gluten. Upset stomach for a few days afterwards. A mild glutening results in a sore stomach for days afterwards, and I get this with a major glutening too. I risked a small amount of "may contain gluten" chocolate after Christmas rather foolishly and I am suffering with...
  9. Another costochondritis sufferer here. I get gastritis like symptoms when I am glutened, and burning particularly under my left rib. But for some reason it seems to set off nasty, burning rib pain too, which wraps round the enitre left side of my lower ribs. Maybe the associated bloating I get with glutening is a contributing factor. It is really horrid...
  10. "In other words, most people who visit a gastro doctor should simply be screened for celiac disease right when they walk in the door." Quite right @Scott Adams . I can't understand why this isn't done.
  11. @Rogol72 This is very good to know! I could get there in just over an hour. Thank you for the post, much appreciated.
  12. I am so glad to read that you are finding some improvements. This forum means a lot to me, too, I honestly don't know where I'd have been without it these past ten years. Do keep in touch and let us know how things are going. Cristiana (((hugs)))
  13. Yes, a lot of cereals are now. I noticed when I was first diagnosed that some of the brands of bread and cereal I was buying had no additives at all, yet their glutenous counterparts contained them. That said, the loaf of bread I have in the house just now does have added vitamins and minerals - perhaps it depends on the brand, or perhaps things have...
  14. Strange isn't it - my vitamin D levels have tumbled since adopting a gluten-free diet. Perhaps it is because I'm not outside as much as I was when the children were younger, or maybe it's because some foods I used to eat might have been fortified?
  15. Hello again, I see you spell coeliac the same way I do so I am assuming that you are based in the UK? If so, will have found out perhaps, in this country, GPS send us for a TSH test if there is any question of a thyroid problem. However, I made a special request for a full panel thinking something was missed and offered one other test - it was...
  16. Hi MiriamW Just to say that I'm in the UK too and my experience has been quite similar to yours. I've even had thyroid tests and was disappointed when the results came back that my thyroid was normal - imagine that! Anyway, I've always had fine, wispy hair, but before I was diagnosed it went really thin. I remember one day going to a restaurant...
  17. That's really reassuring about your forthcoming ultrasounds, and your last one too. But it could be that bloating is a big contributing factor here, so I'd say keep a food diary and see if there are any patterns. For me the worst pain was when I'd been eating too much dairy (live yogurt) and wearing tight waisted skirts and jeans. I was writing a...
  18. Martha... I am a worrier too and having experienced the awful pain that SI issues cause, I completely understand why you must be imagining all sorts of things. I certainly did! Our symptoms sound identical. I'd be surprised if the pain is caused by anything else but please do mention these issues to your doctor in case s/he wants to run any further tests...
  19. Hi @marthawkb So sorry I didn't see this early - Christmas has been busy. But I just wanted to say I could have written this. In my case I believe I had an issue with my sacroiliac joints. I had pain in the groin, lower back and burning in the buttocks. It rumbled on and on for some time after my initial diagnosis, for many months, I think...
  20. Just another thought - sorry if I've missed this in one of your posts - but did you have a colonoscopy too? In some ways I wonder if the pain/bloating is actually more likely to be in your colon rather than small intestine?
  21. The balloon description does sound rather like you have bloating. It could just be that you have bloating related to an intolerance which might settle in time. I had this although it tended to be worse on my lower left side, but everyone is different. Have you tried eliminating dairy for a while? After three weeks dairy free my bloating reduced greatly...
  22. Hi Matty007 I agree with Trents - good idea to have a follow-up scope and the H Pylori infection check. But I do wonder if you are taking any iron supplements because when I was taking supplements I got a lot of uncomfortable bloating that travelled around to my back. I've also got an umbilical hernia which they won't treat here in the UK...
  23. Very interesting. I was prescribed a course of these for the first time a week or two in early 2013 after taking some medication that had upset my stomach (gastritis). As soon as I started taking them, although it could have been a coincidence, I started getting severe diarrhea which never stopped. After a few weeks my doctor ran some tests and discovered...
  24. We are very fortunate in the UK because in the last few years food labelling has tightened up considerably. Sadly, though, this in part has come out of a tragedy where a young girl, Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, died of anaphalactic shock on an aircraft after eating a sandwich from Pret a Manger. That said, I would always say to anyone healing from coeliac...
