Sides Hurt.
cristiana replied to Matty007's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just another thought - sorry if I've missed this in one of your posts - but did you have a colonoscopy too? In some ways I wonder if the pain/bloating is actually more likely to be in your colon rather than small intestine? -

The balloon description does sound rather like you have bloating. It could just be that you have bloating related to an intolerance which might settle in time. I had this although it tended to be worse on my lower left side, but everyone is different. Have you tried eliminating dairy for a while? After three weeks dairy free my bloating reduced greatly... -

cristiana replied to Matty007's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Matty007 I agree with Trents - good idea to have a follow-up scope and the H Pylori infection check. But I do wonder if you are taking any iron supplements because when I was taking supplements I got a lot of uncomfortable bloating that travelled around to my back. I've also got an umbilical hernia which they won't treat here in the UK... -
Proton Pump Inhibitors Increase Risk of Celiac Disease
cristiana commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
Very interesting. I was prescribed a course of these for the first time a week or two in early 2013 after taking some medication that had upset my stomach (gastritis). As soon as I started taking them, although it could have been a coincidence, I started getting severe diarrhea which never stopped. After a few weeks my doctor ran some tests and discovered...- 20 comments

We are very fortunate in the UK because in the last few years food labelling has tightened up considerably. Sadly, though, this in part has come out of a tragedy where a young girl, Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, died of anaphalactic shock on an aircraft after eating a sandwich from Pret a Manger. That said, I would always say to anyone healing from coeliac...

Hello again, It really does sound as if you are onto something now, suspecting coeliac disease. Don't worry - no-one will bully you here to have tests done 🙂 - it's just a question I ask routinely here when new members join. Sometimes it can be helpful because in Britain where I live there are some real advantages of getting a formal coeliac di...

Hi there LaLeoLoca and welcome to the forum! I am so sorry you have had such a difficult journey. I am so glad to hear that you feel giving up gluten is making a difference. May I ask, have you been formally diagnosed with coeliac disease/non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS)? Now, everyone's recovery journey is different but for me I would say...

Hi Mystl3tainn It could well be that it is just early days yet, and you are still healing. It can take some time. However, there are other things you may wish to consider. Did you use oat flour in the brownies? I found even the pure gluten free ones made my stomach sore every time I ate them for many years. About two years ago, I found I...

Feels like I can’t eat anything
cristiana replied to SargeMaximus's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm a worrier, Sarge but I think trents is right though - try the rotation approach. -
Hi Graeme Good to hear from you. We hope you had a good Christmas too. Well done for getting checked out, there is a good chance all will be well but always best to be sure. It sounds like you are being looked after well. Take care, and do keep us posted. Cristiana

Hello Atomeye and welcome to the forum. I should first say that on the forum I'm not the coeliac numbers expert - sorry! I'm hoping someone else will chime in soon, but personally I would say it's important to have the tests. It really is the only way you will know for sure. As you have been quite rightly told, there is a link between the two...

Feels like I can’t eat anything
cristiana replied to SargeMaximus's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi SargMaximus Welcome to the forum. It does sound as if you burn off calories very easily - I'm the opposite! Your diet certainly sounds very healthy to me. With regards to constipation and oats, you have said you haven't been diagnosed with coeliac disease but let's just say that you do have it, for arguments sake, you could be one of the... -
Don't blame you. I've had small amounts since by mistake, and trace amounts made me feel just like I've got a really sore stomach for a couple of days. So I do wonder if you were served something that was actually made with wheatflour, like that piece of cake I had? It has made me extra vigilant, I can tell you.

Hi Ryondajb1 Poor you, that sounds awful. Do you know where gluten might have snuck in? I must admit my last "proper" glutening - a piece of cake that was actually made with normal flour in error - was scarily dramatic. Chills, feeling faint, could hardly stand up, vomiting, heart felt out of sync. I dread the next time because I wonder if...

That's a great post, @cnazrael89. I'd say the important thing to do here , @Graeme1 , if you haven't already done so, is to ensure you mention this to your doctors, and get them to check this is what you are dealing with.

I agree with @trents. I was one of those contributors who suffered left-sided bloating not just before but also after giving up gluten and my gastroenterologist suggested I gave up lactose for a while - specifically, to do a lactose free trial for three weeks. I must admit I continued to eat small quantities of cheddar during the time, and butter,...

Funny you should mention this @Wheatwacked. I'd forgotten that list - and there are others, and yet in the early days I think I must have looked at it dozens of times for reassurance. Before I was diagnosed my doctor told me they were looking for cancer. I had curious blood test results which showed a strange blood protein spike that concerned my...

Hi Graeme "With regards the symptoms I understand that things could take months but it is the blood in my stool that is concerning me , I’m sure it’s probably hemarroid or fissure but have just got myself in a panic to be completely honest . I can’t find a great deal about this being a symptom of celiac and have started catastrophising a bit ." ...

I had no trouble getting my children tested, because they frequently complain about gastric issues, as do many children, but when I asked a doctor (at my consultant's suggestion) to test my parents it was not done because my parents had no obvious gastric issues. And yet my poor mother had osteoporosis and suffered from anxiety. I don't like battling against...

That's very interesting, it does sound as if they are waiting to see if your levels come down. Sorry - just for clarification - did you mean you were high iron, because in your earlier post you said low iron? I've got to go offline for a bit now so sorry if I don't get back to you straight away but I'm hoping someone else will be able to help in...

Is the other test an endoscopy? Because if this is the test he's suggesting the normal course of action would be to continue to eat gluten until the test if it is in 2 weeks' time. Normally you would would need to eat two slices of glutenous bread a day, or the equivalent. In my own case I just ate all the gluten containing foods I knew I'd miss if I...

Hello Jnapier and welcome to the forum! If your doctor says you have coeliac disease I wouldn't like to argue with that 🙂 but if you can find your blood test results you may wish to post them here so we can have a look. I suspect the TTG test might have been one you have omitted from the list. Did he say you are to have an endoscopy? It isn't ...

Sorry to cut in here, I don't mean to interrupt trents and Gary, but I just wanted to say to the OP @Marissa221 that I still get bloating when I get mild gastritis or reflux - the bloating mainly makes me burp a lot. I try to go onto a reflux diet for a few days and that helps. Also, I found when I was supplementing iron that made me very bloated - are...

On gluten-free diet… diagnosed with Duodenitis
cristiana replied to Condy's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Condy Welcome to the Forum. I wanted to check what was meant by duodenitis and when I google it the search engine stubbornly keeps taking me to the NHS forum on gastritis. I hope someone will be able to help who has issues with duodenitis, but I seem to struggle periodically with gastritis, which the NHS website gives the following as causes...
