  1. Today, up and down the British Isles, cooks everywhere will be baking a very particular cake to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (a reign of 70 years). The famous cake is the Victoria Sandwich. I thought I'd share this gluten free version of it with my non-British friends on the forum. I also attach the history behind it. If you want to give...
  2. I am not sure where you live, but do some research and see what local products are available to help you put some more good bacteria into your gut through probiotics, either through food or supplementation. I was put on gluten-free probiotic tablets by my nutritionist and when I could tolerate dairy again, she told me to try live Greek yoghurt.
  3. Aussienae, I agree with you. You do need more time. I seem to recall someone else on this forum advising me the same many years ago. We can't expect instant results if we've been undiagnosed for many years. I am not sure how old you are but I was diagnosed, by some strange coincidence, at the same time as two of my friends. One is about 15 years...
  4. Hi Aussienae I am so sorry - I missed your post completely.🤗 In a nutshell, us females should always get lower pelvic pain checked out in case it is a gynae issue, at the very least requesting a CA125 test from your GP. But if you have already had that checked, it does sound to me as if it could be some kind of bloating that builds up during th...
  5. Good point Trents, I was a silent coeliac I guess, because my first symptoms were not gastrointestinal. I had clinical anxiety, at that time anaemia, and also elevated liver enzymes. Thank goodness I ended up with gastrointestinal symptoms later on otherwise I think the doctors might still be stumped!
  6. Hi bfare and welcome to the forum If you had an endoscopy, I assume this patchy erythematous of the mucosa was found in the stomach? In which case, I believe this is would match the finding of gastritis. I am no medical expert but what I can tell you is that I have coeliac disease and also suffer from periods of gastritis, usually after I have...
  7. These are very good, frankly I wouldn't have known the difference between the usual type. Also available with honey, and rice pops too. https://www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/products/brands/gofree?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj_iX1MrX9wIV0OvtCh3lkAREEAAYASAAEgJWl_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I've read a few points of view about the pros and cons of fortifying gluten...
  8. Hello Harry I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner - I'm snowed under with other stuff at the moment so not on the board much, but I've asked Scott to let me know if anyone from the UK posts who needs help, so you are that first post (the system is working, @Scott Adams!) I can relate to a lot of your issues and I am so sorry you are going through it...
  9. Hello All There's some really good advice here. Just something to add. I have IBS-D as well as coeliac. I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2013. Just before Covid hit, as I was experiencing diarrhea and discomfort again, my consultant did an endoscopy - clear - then specifically tested me for something called Microscopic Colitis during a...
  10. Thanks so much for this, Wheatwacked. This is all very interesting. Interesting about aspirin, too, I had no idea about that statistic. Out of interest, do you ever recall the jaw pain coming on when you ate particular foods - and by that I mean very sweet or sour, rather than hard to chew stuff which would probably hurt anyway! I just feel it's...
  11. Thanks, knitty kitty. I had odd tooth pain last year and I think you said something about the benefits of Niacin then, so I've just started to supplement again. It worked last time, I'm very grateful to you. Something's definitely wrong with the alignment of my bite, for years I've noticed my front teeth are slightly off centre! I also wonder...
  12. I can't take them unfortunately because they make my stomach very sore. That said, I don't find it quite so bad using a topical NSAID like Ibuleve so I suppose I could give that a try. Thanks so much for this suggestion.
  13. Hi Trents That's really helpful, thank you, I think you have a very good point there. It's a kind of burning pain, and it does remind me of the pain I've had in my sacroiliac joints and ribs since around the time of diagnosis. Musculoskeletal in nature. The procedure was on a molar and way back in the mouth, so I guess my mouth had to be...
  14. Hello all Sorry I've been off this forum for a bit recently - I've been under a lot of pressure with a project so have had to take some time out. I just wondered if anyone reading this today has suffered from TMJ and salivary pain? A bit more info I went to see a dentist about a month ago and got a clean bill of dental/oral health, other than...
  15. Hi Rogol72 This might work - but CAUTION, don't buy Floradix (it has gluten in it), buy FLORAVITAL. https://floradix.co.uk/product/floradix-floravital-liquid-iron/ But use with caution: don't supplement iron on a regular basis without monitoring by a doctor - too much iron in the blood can cause very serious health issues. Sorry for...
  16. My experience of the NHS has been very positive with Coeliac Disease, so I'd go for it if I were you - nothing to lose. In fact, one NHS consultant spotted something that a private consultant of mine missed. I'm sure that tightening up on "the may contains" should make a difference. It is amazing how small amounts of gluten can add up over time. On...
  17. Hi Onegiantcrunchie I'd prioritise another full coeliac panel as your blood test should tell you if gluten is getting in. In the UK, since COVID, we've noticed on this board UK residents are reporting there is less emphasis on the need for an endoscopy for a formal diagnosis, so you may be able to finally get one (I think in part because of huge NHS...
  18. Hi Onegiantcrunchie! 1. Eating out. Some coeliacs I know eat out without any issues, but I get glutened almost every time I eat out. From the time that someone prepared a salad for me, and there were visible breadcrumbs in the lettuce (it had been prepared on a breadboard), to an honest mistake by the waiting staff: I ordered scrambled eggs...
  19. Hello Perpetually Confused and welcome to the forum! I am sorry you are having more pain - it's disappointing, but be reassured, quite a few of us on this forum didn't bounce back straight away after going gluten free. There are several reasons you might be feeling worse: Perhaps trace amounts of gluten are sneaking through. Are you sharing...
  20. Hello Daisy I'm afraid this isn't my subject - the only cats I know are our neighbours' cats and so I only see them when they stray into the garden but never feed them, but yours is an interesting post - do let us know how you get on! Cristiana
  21. Hello Bneill Good to have you on board - welcome to the forum. The way I start new topics is I go to forums, then click on the topic area sub-forum I feel my post would best go under - perhaps in the case of your post above, this might be Dermatitis Herpetiformis, and then that takes you through to the Dermatitis Herpetiformis sub-forum where you...
  22. Thank you Tessa, I did wonder if there was some sort of connection as the pain is quite close to the joint. Yesterday I had to walk a couple of miles and that area felt tight, a new type of pain, sharp and a very tiny area was affected, but after the walk I had no more pain after that. I will try to find a way that I can get a physio to look at this.
  23. Hi Sabaarya "Anyone here with marsh 3 a score damage and did you have ups and downs until you get completely healed or it was right away after gluten-free diet. I just want to be ok again, I want my brain and my body relax" Ups and downs sounds just like me for a while. And yes, I was marsh 3 too. On the mental health side of things, one...
  24. Thanks so much, ErinLu, that does sound like the pain I'm suffering. I would very much like this level of investigation but I am not sure how easy it would be to pursue this within the NHS system in the UK. However, I also have pain down the leg too but it's very difficult to pinpoint, it sort of moves around and doesn't appear to be following a particular...
  25. Joanna - my Vitamin B12 was within normal range, but was low-normal, i.e. just within normal range by UK lab standards. I felt a lot better when they were around 500, which I gather in some countries is considered low normal. Do you know what your levels were, and what were the lab's normal parameters?
