  1. Hi Lyn I don't think gastritis has ever been mentioned in my various endoscopies but that could be to do with timing - it's all a bit vague in my mind now but certainly by the time I had my second bout I waited around for a while for testing, so the worst of it was over. The point is you have been diagnosed with it and that's good in a way - you know...
  2. Hi Lyn Hang in there... it's very early days and you will still have a lot of inflammation which will cause these sort of symptoms. I was exactly where you are now when I was first diagnosed and I panicked and really thought I'd never get better. Unfortunately, this is definitely one of those instances where the word "patient" not only is a word...
  3. Hello Lyn My gastric symptoms at diagnosis included a burning stomach, diarrhea and bloating. I seems to recall my diarrhea got a lot better within a few days of adopting a gluten free diet but it didn't go away completely and I had bloating still. My doctor suggested I gave up dairy for a while and that helped tremendously. Lactose intolerance...
  4. Those are common deficiencies in coeliacs. You may find you may need to take a higher dosage of vitamin D than you are currently taking - this is worth raising with your doctor.
  5. I think that would be a very good move and will help your doctor identify if low bone mineral density is an issue. It would be good also to find out what your vitamin D levels are like as vitamin D helps with calcium absorption, essential to building strong bones. See if you can get your doctor to run this blood test. I was diagnosed in 201...
  6. Hello Catlinds and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your fracture. I haven't had this problem but I understand it is relatively common for coeliacs to have issues with bone density, predisposing us to osteopenia/osteoporosis, so I hope others on this forum will be able to help you. Assuming you are a coeliac, out of interest...
  7. Just to chip in... I get gas, bloating and stomach pains when I suffer from gastritis which can be brought on by glutening but also by eating rich food (too much cake is a bad one for me!) or by taking certain antibiotics or NSAIDs. I take a short course of omeprazole or another ppi (usually for just a few days) when it strikes and eat bland foods...
  8. Bruised rib is a good description - I've had that. All that brick laying won't have helped at all, but like my own situation, sometimes these things can't be avoided. Do you find that if you rest it gets a lot better? Also, how is your celiac disease? Are you managing OK with the diet and do you know what your numbers are like at the moment? I find...
  9. Hello TheFuzz Good to hear from you. I am glad that your treatment is helping immensely, but the unresolved chest pain still sounds nasty. Mine at the moment is so much better. It was awful for some years, so bad that I really thought there must be something seriously wrong. It went round to my back, too. I've been in ER twice to have my heart...
  10. Hi Jenni I would definitely give up oats and see what happens. In the UK it is normally suggested to give them up for 6 months to a year after diagnosis while you are healing and then reintroduce them to see if they are causing symptoms. They really are an issue for a number of those who post in this forum - me included. Most celiacs can eat them...
  11. Just checking my emails first thing here, over the pond. What a lovely thing to read first thing in the morning.... thank you AL!
  12. You are quite right, trents and not picky at all. I think I've made that mistake before! Senior moment and something I can't blame on coeliac disease for a change, unlike most things! Thanks for the correction and apologies for the mistake, Mandie.
  13. You are in a very difficult place at the moment but hopefully your conversation with your doctor on Wednesday will get the ball rolling in the right direction. Keep us posted! Cristiana
  14. Good plan. And remember, it is important to consume gluten before the endoscopy. I hope it all goes well.
  15. Hi Bella Yes, that would be great wouldn't it! That said, you may find that some doctors are keen to do an endoscopy even if the blood results are positive but there are others who are happy not too. It rather depends on the doctor/circumstances. Should you have a negative blood test, it could be that you have something called non-celiac...
  16. They are quite right- it is definitely worth testing. Re: yellow stools. I can tell you that I have had this symptom. Celiacs can become temporarily lactose intolerant and I used to have this a lot, before my gut healed. I'm glad you've been eating gluten. As much as it is making you feel uncomfortable, keep eating it before your blood test...
  17. It may also build your case, if your doctor is resisting, to find out if you have the gene that can cause celiac disease. Perhaps s/he could order that blood test?
  18. Hi Bella It sounds like your doctor went down the same route as mine initially. I was anemic and also had inflammation, but it didn't really add up to anything. It wasn't until I started to get diarrhea that they thought to look for celiac disease. I would go back to your doctor and ask for a celiac blood test - ask for a full panel. Are you...
  19. Hello Bella No bother at all - that's what we're here for. Welcome to the forum! The symptoms you mention could be celiac disease. Out of interest, did your blood tests include a full celiac panel? If so, can you post your results? Cristiana
  20. Hello Mandie Thanks for posting, and a welcome to the forum. I am so sorry you are feeling so unwell at the moment. Poor you - feeling constantly nauseous is horrible. You are quite right - celiacs can have negative blood tests and the only way to be sure if that is the case with you is to have an endoscopy, although the bad news is in that...
  21. I have read others say that a glutening episode can cause hair loss, too. Thank you for your post.
  22. Hi Donna I have mini-flare ups. I share a house with other gluten eaters so it's possible that trace amounts get into my diet that way. Are you sharing a house with others who eat gluten? Eating out is also an issue for many of us on this forum. I have been glutened so many times whilst eating out, even if the caterer has been quite...
  23. No problem, drobs. Eczema seems to take many forms and when I was googling my symptoms I saw some pictures online that looked much worse than mine, or not at all like mine, so I was a bit surprised when I was diagnosed. I hope you get the easiest to live with diagnosis, but if it is eczema I have to say now I know how to cope with it, I can get on top...
