Hello there, I'm sorry as I haven't had much time to read this properly and am about to go out again, so forgive me if it isn't applicable in your situation or that I've missed something. However, I just wanted to ask if [adult onset] eczema was ruled out? I have a rash that looks almost like a nettle rash, it gets worse when I itch it, and it...

Severe vomiting after eating gluten
cristiana replied to gatlint's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The weird thing is I used to be able to eat it all the time - with no problems, I actually really like it. I have been very much reminded of George Bush's least favourite vegetable these last few days with the BBC constantly showing interviews with someone called Barbara Broccoli. Something to do with James Bond, apparently. With apologies... -
Severe vomiting after eating gluten
cristiana replied to gatlint's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My chills seem to start up just as I begin to feel sick. I have developed a bizarre reaction to broccoli in recent years where I get chills and feel sick within two hours of eating it. Fortunately broccoli is easier to spot than gluten! -
Severe vomiting after eating gluten

Trents... this is me, too, after being gluten free for some years I have lost tolerance too. I was diagnosed about eight years ago and for some years after diagnosis my symptoms were relatively mild. However, at Christmas I was given a large slice of normal cake and vomited within 2-3 hours (first time I've vomited since I was a child), with awful... -
And one more thing that I forgot to say ... if your doctor has tested for coeliac disease, but your blood results are negative, you may still have it. A small number of coeliacs have negative blood tests. The only way to be sure in this instance is to have an endoscopy to rule it in/out. Or you may have non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, which is another...

Hi Azayleah I have to say I remember being in a similar situation to your own and being beside myself at times, wondering where all the bizarre symptoms would end. My gastric symptoms were the last to present - had they not, I don't think anyone would have thought to test me for coeliac disease - I'd probably still be wondering what was wrong with...

Hello Azayleah and welcome to the forum! I'm very sorry that you have been feeling so unwell. Coeliac disease can cause some strange and unpleasant symptoms and I have had some of those you describe. Numbness, tingling, dizziness, quite apart from the usual gastric symptoms. Before we go any further, can you tell us: Are you consuming...

Hello RKRa I'm female too. My hair has never been thick, but around the time of my diagnosis, when I was anemic, I noticed it was considerably thinner. If you google "iron and hair loss" you will see lots of contradicting evidence and studies online as to whether low iron can cause hair loss, but I would say in my case it did. It did look better...

Not sure what this means now

See you there! (And don't worry... almost every week it seems that a gluten free version of a product I've been missing appears in the gluten-free aisle!) -
Thanks Trents. Sorry for any confusion. I wrote 10 mg, not 10 ppm, but that is probably a rather confusing way of putting it. I've found this which might be a bit clearer. "Consuming a diet at 20 parts per million (ppm) is considered safe for those with celiac disease because it should put most people below the 10 mg threshold when you add up all...

Hi Trents! Yes, Free From is used a lot in our main supermarket chains. Usually one finds the gluten free products there but one has to be a bit wary and read the labeling. I found some organic Dove flour (a brand which also makes excellent gluten free flour) in the Free From area in Sainsbury's. To this day I'm not sure if it is Sainsbury's policy to...

Hi Katie Welcome to the forum! The following may be helpful if you are posting from the UK where I live (I notice your spelling of "coeliac", my American friends here drop the "o" which to me makes much more sense!) If you are based in the UK, have you tried joining Coeliac UK? They produce a Food and Drink Guide which lists safe products...

6 year old false negative?
cristiana replied to Steph974's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hiya Steph! That's really interesting about DNAFit. I wasn't surprised it wasn't the NHS though as I am not sure they even do coeliac gene testing, but perhaps I'm wrong. Do keep us posted. I think the key thing with this is to remember that there won't be a reaction if your son has no gluten in his diet, or very little. It is normally recommended... -

Wow... I see the first post was April! WHERE DID THAT GO?!! Anyway, so glad to be of help - having been there right from the start I feel a bit like your coeliac fairy godmother! Tee hee! xx -
Mid-forties. No known relatives. When I was diagnosed I was asked to get my first degree relatives checked but here in the UK doctors often won't pursue this unless there are symptoms. I'm sad about that as I think my mother may have had it. I was diagnosed by blood test and endoscopy after weird aura migraines, mouth ulcers, numbness, tingling, anemia...

cristiana replied to Ellawells's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Ella Well... what can I say... thank you so much for keeping us posted, but I'm sorry that you have got coeliac disease. That said, I'm glad you have found out because it really is so much better to know. You have found out before gluten has had a chance to have an impact on your health. Will you be able to get your first degree relatives tested... -
Hello Ace Yes, I've read the odd report of high numbers like that. I think we might see a few more reports here bar the fact that in some countries, including this country (the UK), the usual cut off point when labs report back appears to be 100. So even if the number exceeds 100, you will simply read >100. That's what my report said. I...

6 year old false negative?
cristiana replied to Steph974's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Steph Now... that's very interesting that he wasn't eating gluten before the blood tests were done. This is so often the case. I think it would be an idea to go back to your GP and ask if he can be retested after eating gluten again for 6-8 weeks. It is also very interesting that you know you have a coeliac gene. By way you spell coeliac... -
6 year old false negative?
cristiana replied to Steph974's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Steph and welcome to celiac.com! I am sorry to hear your son is struggling. The issue with negative blood tests is they aren't always conclusive proof that someone doesn't have coeliac disease. A small percentage of coeliacs have negative blood tests, even if they have damage to their guts. The only way to be absolutely sure in these incidences... -
How to reduce bloating in colon at night
cristiana replied to sunyuzhe's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Herbal teas can help - in particular, it looks as if ginger root could help. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322624#nine-herbal-teas-for-constipation How long ago was it that you had your colonoscopy? I think you should ask your doctor if it can be repeated if this issue has started to happen since your last one.- 31 replies

Dear Chloe and welcome to the forum! Firstly, I'd like to say well done for your honesty and for admitting you need help. This is a really important first step, that you are no longer living in denial. One thing I'd like to clear up - do you have an annual coeliac review? I'm British and looking at your spelling of "coeliac" and "mum" I wonder...

1-1 pairings to help cope with Celiac
cristiana replied to celiacSon12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that would be valuable to have both options. -
I have to say I agree with you, ravenwoodglass. Jackie - adding a huge list of other foods could be discouraging and and put people off altogether. I realise that some people do have problems obvious issues with histamines but I think, having followed this website for some eight years since my diagnosis, the vast majority of people really do find...
