1-1 pairings to help cope with Celiac
cristiana replied to celiacSon12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi celiacson2 and welcome to the forum. I'm a bit of a technophobe - this forum is about as technical as I get - but I realise I'm being left behind and need to do something about it! But what you describe sounds very interesting. I hope others will chime in soon - but my question is, could you run this on a computer or is it just for smartphones... -
Hi Italy97 and welcome. I am so sorry you are going through all of this - it is so tough when you are feeling unwell when you have a little one to care for. Trents is absolutely right - ditch anything processed at this stage, and also don't eat out. And don't eat oats - they really do cause big issues for some coeliacs, even the "pure" variety...

My sympathies with the UTI - I have those and find that trying to drink loads and do all the right things to get rid of the bad bacteria plays havoc with my system - not to mention the trouble I've had with some antibiotics. In fact I've got one now and just took some codeine by mistake and have been wondering why I have been feeling so sick and dizzy! ...

Hello Moccajoe and welcome to the forum! Those levels do sound high but just for clarification, can you give us your lab's normal test parameters? Also, can you let us know if you have been supplementing or having injections? Cristiana

Nausea
cristiana replied to Lexi307's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lexi I have a couple of friends who suffer nausea that is related to their cycle. This problem started in their forties so it could be linked to perimenopause hormones? I don't know how old you are but that might be something to consider. Other things that I find can make me nauseous: * gluten exposure * eating too much rich food... -
Hello there Heidiho! Welcome to the forum, and also to the world of people who haven't a clue! I think many people on this site will relate to your experiences. I have many tales to tell - eating out at a hotel in the Cotswolds that prided themselves in their gluten free menu options, only to be served a dish of delicious looking salmon and scrambled...

Waiting in the system
cristiana replied to Morgan3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Morgan I agree with Trents. You have an observant doctor - a reading like this could so easily have been missed. Whichever way you look at it, considering you have IBS like symptoms it is worth ruling celiac disease out. All too often gastric symptoms are dismissed as IBS - it is really good your doctor looking into this. -
Waiting in the system
cristiana replied to Morgan3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't blame you for feeling like this... when you're not feeling well it really is a "gluten trial"! One piece of advice - there are some tremendous gluten free substitutes in the shops these days but some real gaps in the market. In the UK, I'd love to be able to buy a gluten-free iced doughnut, for example! And there's a particular brand of chocolate... -
Waiting in the system
cristiana replied to Morgan3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Morgan I live in the UK and the standard advice here appears to be to eat the equivalent of 2 slices of normal gluten containing bread every day for six weeks prior to your blood test, and to carry on until the endoscopy - in fact, one of our most recent UK posters was told to carry on after the endoscopy until she had her results back. Others... -
Hello Sabaarya I'm afraid I don't, because I've only ever used NHS (the state) GP service. Visitors to the country can use this state care. Please read this link - I know people must be sending you info left right and centre, but make sure you find out what is available to you through the NHS first. https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/visiting...

Hello again! I am not sure about iron supplements causing headaches but you could look at the possible side-effects listed on the pamphlet that accompanies the pills. Another thought, however: could gluten might be causing your headaches? I believe earlier in your post you said at the moment you aren't entirely gluten free, because of your circumstances...

Also, a lot of meat products are now gluten free in the main supermarkets so burgers, meat balls, sausages are often marked gluten free. In fact, I just bought some turkey sausages which are labelled gluten free from Sainsburys today.

Hello again! My daughter has quite conservative tastes when it comes to food so my repertoire isn't fantastic but our family menu runs something like this during the week for main meals: Roast chicken or lamb, with gluten-free gravy, roast potatoes, vegetables; risotto; shepherds pie, the sauce thickened with gluten-free flour; gluten-free pizza...

Wheatwacked - not meaning to hijack this post, but do you find magnesium really dehydrates you? I find when I take it, it makes me very thirsty indeed.

That sounds very good. I so miss doughnuts, I might have to invest!
-
You are so welcome, Julep. In my own case white rice - when my tummy is sore, any fibre is really aggravating. As for an air fryer, I'm sorry - I don't know about that one. I don't have one in my kitchen but it sounds good (can you make doughnuts with it?!!) My feeling is so long as the chicken is really soft and not coated in fat or spices...

The ferritin deficiency didn't take too long to creep up to normal levels - about two months or so. But I was taking really heavy duty iron pills. I haven't supplemented for a very long time as my my haemoglobin is now quite high - it would be dangerous to build up too much iron as this would create too much haemoglobin in my blood causing something...
-
So interesting... actually, I did say within hours but actually there were a few instances when I remember it taking much less time than that. So sad that so many people are unaware of this connection. To think that a vitamin drink can make such a difference.

Hello Julep and welcome to the forum! What a horrible experience. I would certainly, at least for the foreseeable, avoid eating away from home if you can. Banana, rice, apple sauce and toast are my tried and tested go to cures when I have been badly glutened. I also find chicken breasts, slow-cooked in a crockpot in water, carrots, potatoes...

Celiac disease and Homozygous Hemochromatosis
cristiana replied to Diane Endicott's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Diana Welcome to the forum. This post interests me because my doctor tells me I have a tendency towards another blood condition - polycythemia. In my case my ferritin is low (somewhere between 9 and 20) but my haemoglobin is always high normal. In fact, according to my local lab it has now passed high normal for women, when it recently reached... -
Hello Amy and welcome to the forum! When you say you are still in the testing phase of this disease, do I take it that you are awaiting a biopsy via endoscopy? If that is the case, when is it booked for? If you are having one, you will need to ensure you are eating the equivalent of 2 pieces of normal (glutenous) bread PER DAY until that date, for...

I agree Knitty Kitty - what is it that puts the medical profession off testing for these deficiencies? When my pre-diagnosis anxiety was at its height - and it was crippling - I started to notice a marked difference in how I felt when I drank a vitamin B complex drink, sometimes within hours of drinking it. Do you think that B vitamins can work that fast...

Hello Mommacos Great advice there from Trents. Do get DH ruled out, but I also wanted to share my experience with you. Whilst I am a coeliac, I do not have DH. However, last year I started getting a bumpy, incredibly itchy rash. It started in my scalp, went down to my neck, then my shoulders, then the small of my back and also along my waistline...

We were planning for 2nd baby, don’t now if gonna be able to do it with my new diagnose:)) I had a friend who had several miscarriages and a miracle baby who was born very early. She was then diagnosed with coeliac disease, started the gluten-free diet, and from then on she went to have two babies without any further problems. xx

I'm so glad I've been able to help a little. Yes, I live in England but I am what they call a "Country Mouse" so only go to London if I absolutely must. I don't know if you are familiar with the story of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. I think it might be an Aesop's fable? The story goes that the two mice visit each other's homes but the...
