  1. Hi Jenni I would definitely give up oats and see what happens. In the UK it is normally suggested to give them up for 6 months to a year after diagnosis while you are healing and then reintroduce them to see if they are causing symptoms. They really are an issue for a number of those who post in this forum - me included. Most celiacs can eat them...
  2. Just checking my emails first thing here, over the pond. What a lovely thing to read first thing in the morning.... thank you AL!
  3. You are quite right, trents and not picky at all. I think I've made that mistake before! Senior moment and something I can't blame on coeliac disease for a change, unlike most things! Thanks for the correction and apologies for the mistake, Mandie.
  4. You are in a very difficult place at the moment but hopefully your conversation with your doctor on Wednesday will get the ball rolling in the right direction. Keep us posted! Cristiana
  5. Good plan. And remember, it is important to consume gluten before the endoscopy. I hope it all goes well.
  6. Hi Bella Yes, that would be great wouldn't it! That said, you may find that some doctors are keen to do an endoscopy even if the blood results are positive but there are others who are happy not too. It rather depends on the doctor/circumstances. Should you have a negative blood test, it could be that you have something called non-celiac...
  7. They are quite right- it is definitely worth testing. Re: yellow stools. I can tell you that I have had this symptom. Celiacs can become temporarily lactose intolerant and I used to have this a lot, before my gut healed. I'm glad you've been eating gluten. As much as it is making you feel uncomfortable, keep eating it before your blood test...
  8. It may also build your case, if your doctor is resisting, to find out if you have the gene that can cause celiac disease. Perhaps s/he could order that blood test?
  9. Hi Bella It sounds like your doctor went down the same route as mine initially. I was anemic and also had inflammation, but it didn't really add up to anything. It wasn't until I started to get diarrhea that they thought to look for celiac disease. I would go back to your doctor and ask for a celiac blood test - ask for a full panel. Are you...
  10. Hello Bella No bother at all - that's what we're here for. Welcome to the forum! The symptoms you mention could be celiac disease. Out of interest, did your blood tests include a full celiac panel? If so, can you post your results? Cristiana
  11. Hello Mandie Thanks for posting, and a welcome to the forum. I am so sorry you are feeling so unwell at the moment. Poor you - feeling constantly nauseous is horrible. You are quite right - celiacs can have negative blood tests and the only way to be sure if that is the case with you is to have an endoscopy, although the bad news is in that...
  12. I have read others say that a glutening episode can cause hair loss, too. Thank you for your post.
  13. Hi Donna I have mini-flare ups. I share a house with other gluten eaters so it's possible that trace amounts get into my diet that way. Are you sharing a house with others who eat gluten? Eating out is also an issue for many of us on this forum. I have been glutened so many times whilst eating out, even if the caterer has been quite...
  14. No problem, drobs. Eczema seems to take many forms and when I was googling my symptoms I saw some pictures online that looked much worse than mine, or not at all like mine, so I was a bit surprised when I was diagnosed. I hope you get the easiest to live with diagnosis, but if it is eczema I have to say now I know how to cope with it, I can get on top...
  15. Hello there, I'm sorry as I haven't had much time to read this properly and am about to go out again, so forgive me if it isn't applicable in your situation or that I've missed something. However, I just wanted to ask if [adult onset] eczema was ruled out? I have a rash that looks almost like a nettle rash, it gets worse when I itch it, and it...
  16. The weird thing is I used to be able to eat it all the time - with no problems, I actually really like it. I have been very much reminded of George Bush's least favourite vegetable these last few days with the BBC constantly showing interviews with someone called Barbara Broccoli. Something to do with James Bond, apparently. With apologies...
  17. My chills seem to start up just as I begin to feel sick. I have developed a bizarre reaction to broccoli in recent years where I get chills and feel sick within two hours of eating it. Fortunately broccoli is easier to spot than gluten!
  18. Trents... this is me, too, after being gluten free for some years I have lost tolerance too. I was diagnosed about eight years ago and for some years after diagnosis my symptoms were relatively mild. However, at Christmas I was given a large slice of normal cake and vomited within 2-3 hours (first time I've vomited since I was a child), with awful...
  19. And one more thing that I forgot to say ... if your doctor has tested for coeliac disease, but your blood results are negative, you may still have it. A small number of coeliacs have negative blood tests. The only way to be sure in this instance is to have an endoscopy to rule it in/out. Or you may have non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, which is another...
  20. Hi Azayleah I have to say I remember being in a similar situation to your own and being beside myself at times, wondering where all the bizarre symptoms would end. My gastric symptoms were the last to present - had they not, I don't think anyone would have thought to test me for coeliac disease - I'd probably still be wondering what was wrong with...
  21. Hello Azayleah and welcome to the forum! I'm very sorry that you have been feeling so unwell. Coeliac disease can cause some strange and unpleasant symptoms and I have had some of those you describe. Numbness, tingling, dizziness, quite apart from the usual gastric symptoms. Before we go any further, can you tell us: Are you consuming...
  22. Hello RKRa I'm female too. My hair has never been thick, but around the time of my diagnosis, when I was anemic, I noticed it was considerably thinner. If you google "iron and hair loss" you will see lots of contradicting evidence and studies online as to whether low iron can cause hair loss, but I would say in my case it did. It did look better...
  23. See you there! (And don't worry... almost every week it seems that a gluten free version of a product I've been missing appears in the gluten-free aisle!)
  24. Thanks Trents. Sorry for any confusion. I wrote 10 mg, not 10 ppm, but that is probably a rather confusing way of putting it. I've found this which might be a bit clearer. "Consuming a diet at 20 parts per million (ppm) is considered safe for those with celiac disease because it should put most people below the 10 mg threshold when you add up all...
  25. Hi Trents! Yes, Free From is used a lot in our main supermarket chains. Usually one finds the gluten free products there but one has to be a bit wary and read the labeling. I found some organic Dove flour (a brand which also makes excellent gluten free flour) in the Free From area in Sainsbury's. To this day I'm not sure if it is Sainsbury's policy to...
