  1. It is true to say that you could well have gastritis. I have that as well as coeliac disease and sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between gastritis and accidental glutening as I get burning pain in my stomach in both incidences. So yes, that's worth your doctors looking into. But if you are anemic, coeliac disease can definitely be a cause.
  2. That's really interesting that you noticed a correlation. I haven't knowingly consumed gluten for some time. The only change I made in my diet was in May, when I tried eating pure oats after several years of them giving me burning stomach pain. I seemed to be doing well, then the stomach pain started again. I don't know if pure oats affect the...
  3. Hi Joy03 and welcome to the forum! Firstly, I should say that I am not a doctor so do please follow up with a health care professional (I am just the same as you, BTW, I don't like going to see doctors either - as lovely as my doctors are!) Anyway, I wanted to share with you that I had pain in the lower left abdomen for a long while after being...
  4. Thanks Icelandgirl! I was kind of hoping it was something to do with thyroid and treatable but I don't think there's anything amiss there, according to my doctor. She hasn't got my iron readings so that might be interesting - that could be a cause. Or midlife hormones and stress. I'm trying to figure out what all the episodes have in common and I think...
  5. Hello there aCraftyStitch, and welcome! It sounds like you have good grounds to suspect celiac disease. I'd write in bullet points a summary of what you have written above, in case you forget some of the key details. It will also be helpful as occasionally doctors need a bit of convincing that celiac tests are necessary! Also, get the doctor to...
  6. Thanks so much. It will be nice to know what's behind it all but I'm not looking forward to wearing a monitor. Is it 24/7?
  7. I've been told that my immune system was "somewhat compromised" due to coeliac disease by a consultant gastroenterologist, with reference to repeated bouts of shingles. But I wonder if that's because I've taken a long time to heal and perhaps it was somewhat compromised while my antibodies were still relatively high. As you can see, I'm not a scientist...
  8. No, but interestingly I'm pretty sure they kicked off after I'd been taking some sort of medicated lemon drink for flu/colds, which I've since learned can contribute. They went away but have since come back without me drinking those lemon drinks. Perhaps taking a particular medication can kick start that sort of issue, for it never to truly resolve.
  9. I'm afraid I don't know. I've been told they are normally benign though. I hope so!
  10. Absolutely right there. But my, ectopic hearbeats are so difficult to ignore. Most unpleasant. You notice one, it's kind of scary, then the surge of adrenaline brings on more...
  11. Hi everyone I'm back having hospital tests - hooray! - this time for very bothersome ectopic heartbeats. The weird thing is they can feel like the sort of fluttering/pressure I get when I have too much gas in my stomach so it is easy to confuse the two. I'm not sure if there is any relationship with celiac disease, but I have been looking online to...
  12. Thank you for letting me know. It is quite appealing nonetheless as currently I hardly dare eat out... I used to get glutened so often and now my symptoms are so bad I feel it isn't worth it. This could be a wonderful way of getting some freedom back.
  13. Sorry Trents, I misunderstood what you said. Just for clarity fflstuart77, here's a helpful post about temporary lactose intolerance from Coeliac UK. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/coeliac-disease/conditions-linked-to-coeliac-disease/lactose-intolerance/
  14. That's really interesting, Trents, I didn't know that. Mind you, for some reason I could tolerate casein but milk, yoghurt etc went right through me. (Sorry - TMI!) Maybe my casein consumption explains why I have taken longer to heal than I'd expected.
  15. I agree, Trents. Hello Ailish! I too felt quite unwell and continued to do so post coming off gluten - but things did improve when I got the hang of the diet etc. Before I ask you a few questions, here's a great link which I believe will help you. Are you still eating dairy products? If so, this may be contributing to the bloating and...
  16. Hi - yes, too much weight! Also, my villi are healed.
  17. Hi fflstuart I have been gluten free for 8 years, and very conscientious about it, and yet my tTG has never dropped below 14. I used to worry about it but my gastroenterologist isn't at all worried - he actually said to me that if I lived on a diet of rice and water my figures might never get lower than that. Interestingly I have been reading...
  18. Hi Checks Thank you so much for contacting us to update us. I am so glad you know where you stand now, after all this time, and what a relief you have found out before school starts (presumably, if your area is like ours, it starts next week?) You should now be entitled to all sorts of extras on the NHS, including a dietician, Dexa bone scans...
  19. Checks... you must be relieved! I'm so glad that the results are in, too. Yes, it would be so good, if you get a moment, to let us know what the results are when they are finally in. It's good to know that results can take this long to come through - I can update others in the same situation. I suspect Covid is to blame....
  20. Not DH, but I started having a terrible rash in my scalp which then escalated to my neck, shoulders, back etc. I was diagnosed with adult onset eczema. I found Neutrogena T-Gel absolutely brilliant and still use it as my main shampoo. For some reason my hair which is naturally curly but fine really responds well to it - just one shampoo and rinse, and...
  21. Hi Ella I'm afraid my knowledge of antibody types is very limited but I do recall my gastroenterologist told me one of my tests was strongly indicative of celiac, whereas the other (whatever it was!) was vague. I can only think the NHS would only put you through this if there were sufficient grounds to give you an endoscopy. I'm sorry it's so difficult...
  22. That's me you are describing there! I think the last time I vomited before going gluten free was when I was in my childhood or early teens even. I used to think how lucky I was that my symptom with anything gastric was D rather than V. Not now. After 8 years of being on the gluten-free diet, and being really strict about it, I ate a slice of...
  23. Thanks so much, it would be great to know how you got on. My own blood test results were off the chart, but I was still concerned that I had something else and it would be a normal biopsy! I don't think this is an unusual concern. I hope that you won't be kept waiting too long for your results. I think things might get a bit held up with the Covid catch...
  24. Hi Ella A friend of mine was told during the endoscopy that her gut was so damaged the doctor could see she had celiac disease. Now I've never heard anyone else say this - not even on the forum - so I don't know how typical this is? What I do know is she didn't have a sedative so perhaps this is the sort of conversation one might overhear the staff...
