  1. Thanks, Trents. Yes, I seem to remember seeing something about it on this forum but I can't recall where. It chimed with me as my mother had osteoporosis and I wanted her to be tested but it never happened. Hopefully Scott will know where it was.
  2. A PS, for anyone who has been following this... If you are suffering from ectopic heartbeats and have a feeling they could be related to your digestion, I have found this really good explanation here from Dr Sanjay Gupta, a consultant cardiologist, who explains how the stomach can affect the heart. I hope you find it helpful.
  3. Trents, am I right in thinking this statistic is new research because when I was diagnosed I was told 1 in 10 chance that my children would have it? The official NHS website seems to say something similar, if I am reading it correctly, but I wouldn't be at all surprised it it were out of date. My own gastroenterologist gave me this statistic too but that...
  4. Thank you everyone for all your advice. It's taken me a while to read everything, so sorry for not coming back sooner. I got some preliminary blood results back this week and they did show I was extremely dehydrated in hospital when my heart was all over the place, so I'm sure that didn't help. Kate, I will ask my consultant to add a thyroid...
  5. Yes... gluten-free croissants are available, but to my mind they don't cut the mustard. I attach a link from Coeliac UK about whisky which will cheer you up. (Personally I'm with Gussie Fink-Nottle on this one, who I seem to remember in an episode of Jeeves & Wooster referred to whisky as "vitriol", and "utter muck". I visited a friend in Scotland...
  6. Bonjour, Baguette-less. Welcome to the forum, and what a fabulous name! I am afraid I can't answer the question that you are asking but I know others will be able to. What I would say however is if you do decide to follow doctors orders on this one as you are so nearly there, try to think of anything that you will really miss when you go gluten...
  7. Dear Magan Hello to you and welcome to the forum! Have you spoken to your own family doctor about your concerns? It is important to do this as unfortunately Dr Google is a most unreliable doctor to visit at times like these, as I've learned to my cost: I'm three times your age and some of the things Dr Google has diagnosed me with over the years...
  8. Reading this reminds me.... my son was diagnosed with probable discoid eczema a few years ago. The rash looked exactly like ringworm to me - although I have to say I'm not an expert. Thankfully a very experienced doctor saw it and told me he thought it wasn't ringworm. Whatever it was it eventually faded.
  9. I agree with trents. I can't see any reason not to start now. I also agree with him on being careful which type to use. I was given some heavy duty iron pills by my doctor initially which caused constipation and bleeding (fissures). Another GP suggested ferrous gluconate and that was much gentler on my stomach. I don't know where you are posting from...
  10. Thank you Always! I did hope it was related to my thyroid as I thought it might be a simpler solution in some ways but I'm not convinced I was tested. I'm waiting for my results in the post - then I'll take a look. As a "Thyroid Veteran", I wonder if I could ask you what tests I need to request if they are missing? I remember years ago we had...
  11. Hi Kate I think you've got something there! That's very good advice. ☺️ I am a right royal hypochondriac!👑 Plus a bit of stress in the mix. In the past I just took stress like a shock absorber but a friend of mine reckons its my body saying "Stop!" Perhaps it could also be a midlife hormone thing. I've been told from ECG results that the th...
  12. Thank you so much, Centredself. I'm so glad you have your answer. What an interesting explanation. It's really good of you to share as it will no doubt be a very helpful post for others experiencing the same thing. All the best, and perhaps see you here another time! Cristiana
  13. Yes... I was thinking bile. This site attributes this to food moving through the system too quickly. "Stool color is generally influenced by what you eat as well as by the amount of bile — a yellow-green fluid that digests fats — in your stool. As bile pigments travel through your gastrointestinal tract, they are chemically altered by enzymes, ch...
  14. I live in the UK and I love it when stores start to introduce gluten free versions of food. I am with Everoptimistic though and live in hope of seeing a gluten free doughnut appear on shelves one day!
  15. It is true to say that you could well have gastritis. I have that as well as coeliac disease and sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between gastritis and accidental glutening as I get burning pain in my stomach in both incidences. So yes, that's worth your doctors looking into. But if you are anemic, coeliac disease can definitely be a cause.
  16. That's really interesting that you noticed a correlation. I haven't knowingly consumed gluten for some time. The only change I made in my diet was in May, when I tried eating pure oats after several years of them giving me burning stomach pain. I seemed to be doing well, then the stomach pain started again. I don't know if pure oats affect the...
  17. Hi Joy03 and welcome to the forum! Firstly, I should say that I am not a doctor so do please follow up with a health care professional (I am just the same as you, BTW, I don't like going to see doctors either - as lovely as my doctors are!) Anyway, I wanted to share with you that I had pain in the lower left abdomen for a long while after being...
  18. Thanks Icelandgirl! I was kind of hoping it was something to do with thyroid and treatable but I don't think there's anything amiss there, according to my doctor. She hasn't got my iron readings so that might be interesting - that could be a cause. Or midlife hormones and stress. I'm trying to figure out what all the episodes have in common and I think...
  19. Hello there aCraftyStitch, and welcome! It sounds like you have good grounds to suspect celiac disease. I'd write in bullet points a summary of what you have written above, in case you forget some of the key details. It will also be helpful as occasionally doctors need a bit of convincing that celiac tests are necessary! Also, get the doctor to...
  20. Thanks so much. It will be nice to know what's behind it all but I'm not looking forward to wearing a monitor. Is it 24/7?
  21. I've been told that my immune system was "somewhat compromised" due to coeliac disease by a consultant gastroenterologist, with reference to repeated bouts of shingles. But I wonder if that's because I've taken a long time to heal and perhaps it was somewhat compromised while my antibodies were still relatively high. As you can see, I'm not a scientist...
  22. No, but interestingly I'm pretty sure they kicked off after I'd been taking some sort of medicated lemon drink for flu/colds, which I've since learned can contribute. They went away but have since come back without me drinking those lemon drinks. Perhaps taking a particular medication can kick start that sort of issue, for it never to truly resolve.
  23. I'm afraid I don't know. I've been told they are normally benign though. I hope so!
  24. Absolutely right there. But my, ectopic hearbeats are so difficult to ignore. Most unpleasant. You notice one, it's kind of scary, then the surge of adrenaline brings on more...
  25. Hi everyone I'm back having hospital tests - hooray! - this time for very bothersome ectopic heartbeats. The weird thing is they can feel like the sort of fluttering/pressure I get when I have too much gas in my stomach so it is easy to confuse the two. I'm not sure if there is any relationship with celiac disease, but I have been looking online to...
