Hi RMJ I haven't been able to eat them for years but started again in the spring. Initially all OK - but overdid things, and then got gastritis type symptoms and twitching muscles. I have no idea if it is the oats or whether something else is responsible so I'll be interested to see if my antibodies have gone up. I am so glad most coeliacs can eat...

Hi Rebecca I was told to avoid oats for six months when I was diagnosed here in the UK. But then again the advice may be different for children. About ten per cent of coeliacs react to avenin, the protein in oats, and therefore cannot even eat the pure variety. Unfortunately I appear to be one of the unfortunate coeliacs in this position. ...

I have been googling morning nausea and it seems there's quite a bit out there about it. There are a few mentions of gastritis. I wonder if your wife might have gastritis? A friend of mine suffers from gastritis and she feels terrible first thing, before she has eaten. I suffer from gastritis too and more recently if my stomach is acting up I can...

Great advice from Trents. I'd just like to add, your wife probably won't have any problem obtaining blood tests at this time, so you may wish to get blood tests done in any case. The endoscopy may take a while longer than normal but your NHS hospital may not have too long a waiting list at the moment compared with others. In any case, it may be that if...

Hi again Great advice from Ravenswood. Also just to let you know that my nutritionalist saw a lady who had been told by her doctor that she had MS. No one had checked for coeliac disease so at the nutritionalist's advice these tests were done, and indeed she did have coeliac disease instead! My nutritionalist also went onto say that some of...

Nausea and Vomiting Are Key Symptoms of Gluten Exposure in Celiac Patients
cristiana commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
Hi there... I believe a new thread has been created (possibly by a fellow moderator, or yourself?) which is a good idea. I wonder if you could post your latest comment onto that thread and I will answer on that, to avoid getting the threads getting in a tangle! Thanks! Cristiana This seems to be the new thread. https://www.celiac.com/forums...- 45 comments

Hello Robsimonroberts Welcome to the forum, but I am sorry to hear your wife is going through so much. I live in the UK so sympathise as the NHS is under a great deal of pressure at the moment and it is a difficult time to be going through this medical uncertainty. My own diagnosis took some time. This is not uncommon among coeliacs! I was finally...

Nausea and Vomiting Are Key Symptoms of Gluten Exposure in Celiac Patients

Hello Robsimonroberts Welcome to the forum, but I am sorry to hear your wife is going through so much. As a relatively newly recruited Moderator on this forum, I'd ideally like to move this post so you can start a new thread - but I lack this particular skill at present! But do feel free to do so yourself. Meanwhile, I live in the UK so sympathise...- 45 comments

Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
cristiana replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks for this Knitty Kitty - I knew I'd seen someone write about iodine on the forum recently and couldn't think who it was - thanks for you expertise. I really hope this helps, Rebecca. -
Hi Clemmie I second what Scott says about oats - you will have to eat what is known as "pure oats" to be sure they are gluten free. And even then, you may be one of the celiac community (I am one of them) who reacts to even pure oats. Reason being, there may be weeds from glutinous crops in amongst the oat crop, or the oats can get contaminated...

Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
cristiana replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Rebecca Similarly, I don't have DH but I do now have adult onset eczema so I know how difficult living with extremely irritated skin can be. I know that there are a few DH sufferers who contribute to this forum and I hope someone will be in touch soon. Just a suggestion - I could be entirely wrong so I'm hoping others will tell me off straight... -
Hi Clemmie and welcome! About six weeks of two slices of normal bread per day is roughly the standard amount of gluten recommended before a blood test in the UK, which is where I live. When you say low gluten, would it be as much as that, or somewhat less? Cristiana

You are very welcome, Layla. One more thought... once you know where you are with gluten there may be one other thing worth considering, if you find you are still reacting to a lot of seemingly random things. A friend of mine was reacting to so many different foods she went for skin patch allergy testing, some private doctor in Surrey, and he identified...

Re: Crumpets. Oddly enough I actually prefer gluten-free crumpets, I find the normal variety have a very slight bitter taste to them, so "I'm awright Jack" on that one. The thing I do miss however is doughnuts. And, oddly, now when my family suggest a fast food meal I wish I could join them even though in the past I really didn't care for Macdonalds or...

Hiya Layla I totally agree with Trents. Let us know how you get on. If the test does come back strongly indicative of coeliac disease talk to your GP about whether you actually need to have the endoscopy. An endoscopy was always viewed as the gold standard way of diagnosing coeliac disease in adults in this country (I too am in the UK), but...

Hello again FlyingWotsitThingy First things first. I'm British, and Wotsits are cheese puff Cheeto type crisps here and I have to say that reading your name makes me smile each time I see it, with the thought of a Wotsit flying through the air! Thank you for cheering me up! But that aside... Here in the UK I know a fair few coeliacs but...

Hello FlyingWotsitThingy! Welcome to the forum. I cannot pretend to know anything about those DNA results - it looks incredibly complicated, so I can understand why you are struggling. I am sure someone on this forum will be able to help but out of interest, is it possible to contact the laboratories who conducted the tests for help. Also...

I see... yes, that's right, government provided. I must admit I was handed a leaflet about prescriptions upon diagnosis and found the whole thing very confusing, so I'm just hoping I've got my facts straight. I'd be interested to know how many coeliacs in the UK actually use the prescription service, out of my own circle I'd say about 50 per cent of my...

It is nothing to do with private health insurance, it is available via the National Health Service. So if you are ordinarily resident in the UK, you are entitled to use the NHS which is state health care - GPs, hospitals etc etc. Usually this is free treatment, or subsidized care (as in the case of dentists). Prescriptions carry charges, apart from the...

Trents... just saw the second part of your question. It's a bit complicated so I'll post this link from Coeliac UK. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/coeliac-disease/once-diagnosed/prescriptions/?&&type=rfst&set=true#cookie-widget

Hi trents Great question... You can buy gluten free food/ingredients without a prescription. Unfortunately often the prices are substantially greater than gluten containing equivalents. For example, my favourite brand of gluten-free bread is made by Genius and you are looking at £2.50 for a sliced white gluten-free loaf. Compare that with ...

Hi Richard I think that because you have been on omeprazole for a while it would be a really good idea to rule out coeliac disease. Here in the UK I have a couple of friends with gastric issues and coeliac wasn't even looked into initially - it took some time before they were offered endoscopies. I know of one person who I believe just had their stomach...
